    6-1 Cover 2

    n 2009 we ran a 5-2 Cover 2 at Bishop Stang against Somerset with the same reads by the Corners andSafeties. We pawned the Nose, using a short, fast player, and had him take out the Center. Linebackersead the Guards. The year before we ran 5-2 Cover 2 without the outside reads and held Somerset to ab50 yards. Since that time they have since added a few plays to their arsenal and realized all they had to

    was have the Center fall on the Nose.

    The reads were perfect. They brought you to the ball every time. However, there were some issues.

    . Personnel

    - Corners and Safeties did not want to come up and make a play. When they did come up they did not das they were coached. Most of the time both took the alley, which did not exist without the force.

    Defensive tackles seemed too proud to drop and kill the double team, but instead fought it and ended upon their backs a few yards back.

    2. Offense

    We did not put together any sustained drives, giving Somerset the opportunities to sustain long drives oheir own. We were beaten up after the game. The offense was inconsistent and the defense spent waymuch time on the field.

    The reason I like the 6-1 is because the 5-2 NG becomes a wasted man against the Double Wing. With tguys in the A gaps I believe you can disrupt things a lot better. For me, the 6-1 is just a 5-2 with the slantNG and stunting Backer. Two hard-nosed athletes would be my choice here. If you dont have the twonecessary, then I would take two kids that are not afraid to get dirty and have them dive through the gapsThe other reason for the change is that I believe the Mike linebacker will be in a better place to be free to

    ead and flow to the ball. If you have a true stud here it might not hurt to play a couple of yards deeper sohe can read everything better and get better pursuit angles.

    Sam and Will Align head up on Wingback to your side/If tight slot line up on TE (players are interchangeable)/ TEblocks down squeeze him down/attack FB or far Guard (delay attack to confuse them into blocking wrong person aeave you free)/ TE tries to reach rip across his face and maintain outside leverage (ride Sweep to theideline)/Squeezing TE will delay pass release/TE shoeshines get on your horse and chase.

    Anchor and End Outside shade on Tackle/Take on double team trying to break through it (do not be a hero, if youannot break it then grab jersey of Tackle and roll and drop into the TE/Tackle pulls protect for shoeshine/Tackleeaches get on pursuit angle to tackle sweep if it gets beyond first level/Tackle blocks inside wrong arm the Trap.

    Nose and Tackle Inside shade on Guard/Take the A gaps at all means necessary/Disrupt the pulling lanes/ForceCenter to help out/Disruption is the key, not tackles.

    Mike Read the head of the Center/He is blocking Man on to Man away/He will tell you which side the ball isgoing/Once he gives you your read find the ball.

    CB Tight End blocks down ball is coming to C gap/Tight End reaches, the ball is going outside/Pass read you havhe flat/Outside run read you are the force defender/If Tight End splits out read Wingback.
