• faster than traditional mail or courier
• send to multiple recipients simultaneously

saves paper• saves an exact copy of the message
• can carry other digital media as attachments

Disadvantages of email as a medium
• cannot fully control who sees the message
• possible time lag if recipient doesn’t constantly
check email
• not available unless recipient has computer
access
• spam makes genuine messages hard to find

hard to differentiate formal messages from casualmessages because they use the same format
