e) After using quotes and after paraphrasing in essays, we mustmake in-text citations. Look at the following examples.
Example 1: A paraphrase
Shopoholism is a condition that needs to be taken seriously andshould not ignored as someones excessive shopping (Drury, 2007).
Example 2: A quote
According to Roseanne Colletti, psychologists are seeing more and
more patients with the uncontrollable urge to spend (2002).
Which authors name is used in the in-text citation, first name
or family name?
What other information is given in the citation?
What punctuation is used and where?
f) Below, citations are given where the author and date are not known. What information isgiven instead?
Example 3: No author, no date
As consumerism grows, so does the number of compulsive shoppers
(Shoppers Helpline, n.d.).
