Achieving excellence at your local central school High Standards, Individual Attention and Competitive
Yeoval Central School Term 3 Week 4
6 August 2012
Congratulations to the students of our school who performed at the Education Week assembly. A good number of parents and community members attended the assembly and were treated to a variety of stu‐dent performances. The drumming group commenced proceedings with an excellent display of beat and rhythm. Mrs Helen Johnson and the students have worked well together to produce quality items. Each primary class performed their Verse Speaking items in readiness for the Wellington Eisteddfod. The teach‐ers and students have completed a number of practice sessions in their preparation for the eisteddfod. Our whole school choir sang and were a delight to listen to. The assembly finished on a high with a DVD of students performing dances around different locations in Yeoval. Parents were invited to attend primary classrooms and talk to their child about work that they have done with their teacher. Parents should be delighted with the commitment of teachers supporting their children in our school. In my speech I indicated that parents are always invited and are welcome at our school to talk to teachers about their child’s education or see me about what they would like to be involved in. Unfortunately only 40% of parents take the opportunity to make appointments (parent /teacher interviews) to see teachers about improving educational standards for their child.

Our first performance for the Wellington Eisteddfod is Verse Speaking K‐6 on Tues‐day 7 August. All primary students will be on stage and are expected to be in full school uniform. Parents are asked to check their child’s uniform to ensure that they are ready for this event. The students will travel by bus to the venue and stay as a group with their teacher. Parents may take their child home after the performance and final adjudicator’s report. Our school instrumental group perform on Friday 10 August and our choirs are performing on Monday 13 August.
Congratulations Jaide Devenish, Lincoln Monk and Ruben Hudson for being pre‐sented with a GOLD Achievement award. Our merit system recognises students for their achievements. These students along with 8 other students are entitled to a free lunch provided by the Principal.
Tickets for the Schools’ Spectacular are now on sale. Our school was not chosen to perform this year but our application for 2013 is already being planned. Mrs Helen Johnson has information for par‐ents about the tickets for 2012.
Two events took place last week in which students were involved: ‐ Some secondary students participated in Community Tree Planting outside Yeoval and Jeans for Genes Day was held on Fri‐day. All donations were appreciated.
Student assessment tasks for Years 7 ‐12 are published in our newsletter each week. This information for parents and students is to help plan for assessments and complete them on time. Parents can contact the class teacher if there is a con‐cern about the task or completion date. All students are expected to complete assessment tasks as they are weighted and contribute to the course total.
