A2 ADVANCED MEDIA PORTFOLIO EVALUATIONQuestion 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

INTRODUCTIONFor our audience feedback, we decided to use a variety of methods, we had interviewed our target audience, through the use of video. We had also setup a survey for people to answer using Survery Monkey, and finally we had promoted the video and gained feedback through social networking sites such as Facebook and YouTube.

In terms of quality and success, our audience have said that the quality of the shots taken are of high standards as seen in the video interview, this tells us that they way in which we had shot the video in the different locations was a strong point from our side, we took this as a successful aspect of our video.

On the other hand, every person on the video interview, and almost all the people that responded to the survey and Facebook and YouTube posts had all commented on the lip syncing throughout the video, and how it was almost always very slightly out of sync. This of course was not a successful part of our video, and instantly brings the level of quality down majorly.

The majority of the interviewees had recognised that the video was from a pop/electro-pop genre. This means that we had successfully conformed to the recognisable conventions of the pop/electro-pop genre throughout our video. We did this through the use of bright colours in costume, and the location sets were very brightly coloured with graffiti. Moreover, another recognisable convention of pop/electro-pop genre which we had successfully conformed to was the use of dance and happy go lucky lifestyle. We see this in our video where the artist is constantly surrounded by girls and ‘Can’t Say No’.

The audience all had perceived the representation of the artist in a pretty similar way. They all saw him as a ‘ladies man’ and one who ‘can get the girls’, however some also said that he is a ‘humble’ and ‘sweet’ boy.

This representation perceived by the audience does match our intended representation of the artist as we wanted the audience to see him as a ‘ladies man’ but also as he is still young, still have the ‘sweet’ contrast within himself. As we had successfully represented this, it means we had chosen the correct style for the artist in order create this impression on viewers. We had also carried out this representation throughout the Digipack and Magazine Advert.

To conclude, as a result of the audience feedback, the most important change I believe we should make would be the lip syncing. This is a major factor of a music video, and as one of our interviewees said ‘no matter how much good you put around in the rest of the video, they will always remember it had poor lip syncing’. As a result this says that it is a major let down to a well shot and edited video. Furthermore, the fact that everyone we asked, even on social networking sites had picked up on this flaw, meant that this would need to be the most important change to the video as it gives off a bad image.

Moreover, a second change I would make to the video would be to add a few more locations in the shoot. This is because some audience members had mentioned that the majority of it is shot in the studio, which meant it can get boring at times, they had also mentioned using a lot more scenes at Banksy Tunnel. I believe this change would be effective because it would give the video a whole new look and feel, also a variety of locations would mean that the audience wouldn’t be bored and would enjoy what they see. Finally, it would also be conforming to the genre as pop artists tend to use a wide variety of bright locations in their music videos, therefore we would be conforming to the conventions of a real media product.
