six-piece metal group Kvelertak from stavanger, norway are a cult band and a real heavy miracle - they sing in their mother tongue. rock & roll, black metal and punk rock are essential ingredients to their special brew, and they were awarded with the “best breakthrough metal band” accolade by itunes. We can taste their brew on the A38 if we are ready to handle the consequences.

A brilliant musician coming from the streets, and as his name suggests, his guitar has just one string! this doesn’t prevent Jamaican Brushy one string, son of the legendary freddie mcKay, from playing exciting grooves in his songs inspired by desert blues and street reggae. he is going to perform minimalistic songs from his album Destiny, including the hit Chicken in the Corn, which counts as a kind of youtube sensation: by the time our program guide gets released, its video is bound to hit 6,000,000 views.

he is not only one of the most acclaimed bass players on the planet, but also a book author and a well-respected teacher. Known for his unique slapping and tapping technique, Victor Wooten is a member of the flecktones led by Bela fleck, plays with his brothers in their family project called the Wooten Brothers Band and is one-third of famous jazz supergroup smV (the other two thirds are stanley Clarke and marcus miller). the grammy winning musician (who has been playing the bass since the age of two!) is coming to the A38 ship with his solo project, and before the gig he is also going to hold a workshop regarding his novel the music lesson.

you’ve already been to Budapest opening to Monster Magnet this january. What memories do you have of that concert? are there any major differences between the european and the japanese audience?i think european audiences are more extreme than the Japanese. As for the Budapest show, it was our first to play in hungary, and it was really awesome! the audience was very excited and enjoyed our show a lot. We really love hungary!

you’ve been active for more than ten years. how do you think the doom metal scene has changed over the years?i think it’s bigger than before. it was an underground music scene when we began to play. now it’s become a very popular genre in metal music.

you always put serial killers on your album covers. Do you know who you’ll put on the cover of your next record? We’re in the process of writing new material for the next one. our process for songwriting is the following. i always write riffs and record them on my old cassette tape recorder. i choose the cool ones from the tape and build them into songs. next, we practice the material real hard. i choose the serial killers for the lyrics when the song is completely finished. so we need a few more months to write the lyrics, which means that we don’t know yet who will feature on the cover of our next album.

you never write songs about japanese or hungarian serial killers. Why?i really don’t know any hungarian serial killers. let me know if you know one. As for Japanese ones, there aren’t any gruesome serial killers in Japan. our country is peaceful.

your logo looks like the unholy child from the marriage of Black Sabbath and Orange Goblin. Was it intentional to make something similar to the logos of these bands?i agree that our logo is very similar to the mighty sabbath’s. But i think it’s different from orange goblin’s.

if you didn’t play in church Of Misery, what do you think you would do?Besides music, i love movies. maybe i’d become a film director and shoot movies. my favorite genre is spaghetti western.

you have done a lot of covers: Sir lord Baltimore, Quartermass, Black Widow for example. Who would you like to cover next? We’re already practicing a cover song for our next release. But it’s a secret!

Who do you call fake stoners? All bands, labels and those in the media who ride on the trend of the stoner movement of the 90’s.

how does it feel that there’s a special kind of hamburger dedicated to church Of Misery?ha ha ha, it’s really cool! Do you know this Kuma’s corner? it’s a famous burger place in Chicago, and we went there on our previous American tour. every burger meal has a rock band’s name, like Darkthrone, high on fire, etc. of course i had the Black sabbath burger, it tasted really good. it’s really amazing that there’s a Church of misery burger on the menu.

What kind of images rush through your mind when you listen to your own music? Scenes from hammer horror films?not horror films. images from some murder/crime documentary programs from Cnn, Discovery Channel or history Channel. the topics of our songs aren’t fictional, they’re real murder cases.

Which are the top 5 doom metal albums for you?it’s really difficult because my favorite albums change day by day. But the top 5 albums almost never change. they are: saint Vitus - Born too late, Candlemass - epicus Doomicus metalicus, Bloodfarmers - 1st Al-bum, pentagram - relentless, paul Chain Violet theatre - Detaching from satan.

italian OFFerto our guests’ request, we land in italy in July. our July menu includes traditional italian dishes.

Appetizershome-made smoked ham on ruccola salad

soupitalian tomato soup with black olive berries and celery

main dishesspaghetti carbonaraitalian risotto with artichokes, pruned tomatoes and duckbreast carpacciohome-made rustic green-spiced pasta with seafoodoven-baked gnocchi with tomatoes, garlic and green mussels

Desserttiramisu “pillows”

to the ruccola salad, we use home-made smoked ham.the tomatoes included in the italian risotto with artichokes are pruned and spiced locally.the green-spiced rustic pasta is pugged, flattened and jagged in our restaurant.our italian offer is made even more exciting by the fact that our chef worked together with a noted italian cook for years and learned a lot from him - of course you can also experience this if you have dinner on the Danube, gaz-ing at the city lights and tasting the exquisites of our kitchen.A real delicacy in our July offer is a special dessert called the tiramisu pillow. its basis is nothing but a kind of pizza pasta, and what else could be the starting point. from the rolled pasta, we jag out little pieces sloppily, italian style, and fry them. As a result, we receive little forms of pillows. And this is not where it ends. We fill the the pillows with the tiramisu cream, and all you have to do is taste the final result with pleasure.

concert meals in julynaturally, we do not forget about our concert visitors, therefore we are preparing Concert+Dinner offers that can be bought in advance. it is worth visiting our website (www.a38.hu) for our current offers. At the Victor Wooten concert, we are expecting our audience with the following dishes:Appetizer - Caesar salad with chicken, in a parmesan ring, with bacon chipsmain course - gratten potatoes with courgettes, fried tomatoes, ruccola salad and meat of your own choice: grilled knuckle rings or chicken leg fillet in yoghurt sauce

it’s a natural fact that we dream. We spend one third of our life with sleeping. 7 billion people dream the same dreams in 7 billion different ways, night after night. Dreampire is the world’s first dream movement. its aim is to document the dreams of humanity on film, in the form of dream narratives by talking heads. the light juggling team of Kiégő izzók have collected 3000 dreams so far and weave them into a dream installation in the exhibition space of the A38.

in their unseizable and volatile substance, the dreamscapes harmonize nicely with the ductile quality of the wavering water, always in motion. thus, the water is not simply a condition, but it also becomes an integral part of the exhibition’s facade.

in the exhibition space, the visitor can experience an audiovisual, sensual cavalcade: before you could observe the single objects of the exhibition, you will be carried away by the quadrophonic sound. it reflects the timely image of the exhibition space in the dissolve of the wavering water, visualizing the motions in the room in real time. this way, you can go through the different stages of the exhibition with your own floating alterego.

Dreams, dreams and dreams. Dreams on flatscreen tVs, dreams via headphones, intimate dreams through a keyhole, surreal dreams and pieces of equipment recording dreams by a camera fixed to the ceiling.

on the afternoon of the opening aboard the ship, actors and musicians will improvise to the dreams shared by the visitors.

the exhibition can be visited every day from 11.00 to 18.00 with registration in advance.please register by telephone before your visit on the following number: +36 1 464 39 40

A38 is the reincarnation of ‘tripolie’, a Ukrainian stone-carrier ship, built in 1968. the name comes from Artemovsk, which is the ship prototype, and this one was the 38th unit of the ‘Artemovsk’ class. the re-building project lasted for one and a half years. Architects, ship engineers, acoustic designers, electricians, musi-cians and promoters contributed their skills and experience to make it a both artist and audience friendly place.

After years of constant development, A38 has become a cultural entertainment centre with international programme, a restaurant, five bars, one main concert hall, open-air terraces and lounges - all in one aboard as one of the most fascinating venues in Budapest. since its opening it became the flagship of Budapest nightlife, a must-see spectacle on the Danube with scenic view and one of europe’s coolest clubs, which has been voted ‘the World’s greatest Bar’ – according to the poll of lonely planet in 2012.

A38 ship is located in Budapest, at the Buda side of petőfi bridge, easily accessible by a few minutes walk from tram 4 and 6 “petőfi híd budai hídfő” stop or by BKV public transport ships.

the concert hall is a place for live shows and parties, and several bars ship-wide are open for the audience to chat and have a drink.the restaurant offers a daily menu every weekday from 12h to 15h for 1150 hUf.

our roof terrace is closed in the autumn/winter season and reopens in April 2013.for our smoking visitors, we have a heated smoking terrace area with its own bar.

A38 – a place for parties, concerts, dinners and drinks on the river Dan-ube.

A38 ship is an entertainment center with a special constellation of an international programme, a restaurant, bar, a concert hall, an open-air terraces, a lounge and other celestial pleasures - all in one aboard as one of the most fascinating venues in Bu-dapest. Being at the intersection of the four cardinal directions it is the median of Bu-dapest nightlife and one of europe’s coolest clubs, and has been voted ’the World’s greatest Bar’ (in a lonely planet poll) and ’europe’s Best Venue’ by the readers of electronic Beats magazine. Use your compass and navigate to A38 ship, Budapest.
