Backing Lydia Lunch and Nick Cave earlier, James Johnston now brings his own band to Budapest on the occasion of publishing their new album, The Soul of the Hour. Founded in 1988 in London, this is going to be the band’s 8th studio album, defined by the band as “A howling celebration of survival and creative drive against the crushing weight of day-to-day existence”.

Northern European folk metal is fun and not just because of the hilarious make-ups. Having created their own mythology, Turisas take you to a jour-ney where heroes fight, fall and finally triumph over their enemies and be-come one with nature, very similarly to an adventure game - but with better music. Experience Finnish metal at its best from Turisas!

One of the most current singer-songwriters in folk pop, after loud success inside and outside the United Kingdom, Frank Turner takes over Eu-rope with his band, The Sleeping Souls, and two talented supports in the face of Andrew Jackson Jihad and Ducking Punches. Besides the heart soothing ballads, get ready for some serious folk-punk craze!

We welcome Bela Lugosi from Madrid, who will perform as his Weapons of Bass Destruction alter ego, while pictures by photographer Enikő Hodosy will be projected in our main hall.

4 INTERVIEW

You are coming from a good family and have received the best education, however, you came out as a rebel eventually. Why did you choose punk music?

In my family, music was never present, and it has become the central element of my rebellious attitude. I didn’t like school, I listened to Iron Maiden, and then came punk music. For a while, I only listened to the music, but I soon started to sing myself. That’s when my first punk and hardcore bands were formed. What was it like to play at the opening ceremony of the Olympics and fill stadiums with your music?

It’s funny that we didn’t get to play at the opening ceremony because we were such a huge band, but Danny Boyle, the man in charge of the ceremony was a fan of us. So thanks to him for that opportunity. However, I prefer smaller shows where I can play in front of only 400-600 people.

You have another, hardcore band called Möngöl Hördes. Are you missing hard rock playing with The Sleeping Souls?

I grew up listening to punk and hardcore, so I miss them, of course. My main project is The Sleeping Souls, and Möngöl Hördes is only an experiment for me to cross my boundaries. This years we are going to release a studio album and go for a European tour. What is your opinion about old school punk bands like Sex Pistols, who are still playing shows? It’s not my role to judge, but I cannot take them seriously in this context anymore. I just can’t get myself through this. I love Cream’s music, but what they are doing now makes no sense for me. I think musical nostalgy is

unhealthy. That’s why I like Iron Maiden so much,as they can renew time and time again and sound very current. As an Englishman, what is you opinion about Scotland’s Referendum?

It is entirely up to Scottish people, it is their right to choose.

You have been a straight edge, vegan and abstinent musician for a long time. Why did you end it?

As time went by, I realised that I am not consequent and controlled enough to follow the rules and it became meaningless to me. It is better this way for me now. Is it true that you went to the same school as Prince William? Yes, we learned French together. We didn’t really speak to each other, he seemed boring to me, which is not surprising given the fact that anything he does gets in the center of attention. You won the first place at BBC’s Iron Maiden contest. What other quizzes do you think you would succeed in?

I am pretty familiar with the 90s’ hardcore music, and I am also good at the history of Central Eastern Europe.

Wow, that sounds interesting! And what is the first thing that comes to your mind about Hungary? Maybe the 6-3 defeat of the English team at Wembley?

Of course, it does, but also the Revolution of 56. I’ve never been to Hingary, so I would like to visit a museum of the Revolution, if you recommend me one...

A38 is the reincarnation of ‘Tripolie’, a Ukrainian stone-carrier ship, built in 1968. The name comes from Artemovsk, which is the ship prototype, and this one was the 38th unit of the ‘Artemovsk’ class. The re-building project lasted for one and a half years. Architects, ship engineers, acoustic designers, electricians, musi-cians and promoters contributed their skills and experience to make it a both artist and audience friendly place.

After years of constant development, A38 has become a cultural entertainment centre with international programme, a restaurant, five bars, one main concert hall, open-air terraces and lounges - all in one aboard as one of the most fascinating venues in Budapest. Since its opening it became the flagship of Budapest nightlife, a must-see spectacle on the Danube with scenic view and one of Europe’s coolest clubs, which has been voted ‘The World’s Greatest Bar’ – according to the poll of Lonely Planet in 2012.

A38 Ship is located in Budapest, at the Buda side of Petőfi bridge, easily accessible by a few minutes walk from tram 4 and 6 “Petőfi híd budai hídfő” stop or by BKV public transport ships.

The concert hall is a place for live shows and parties, and several bars ship-wide are open for the audience to chat and have a drink.The restaurant offers a daily menu every weekday from 12h to 15h for 1150 HUF.

Our roof terrace is closed in the autumn/winter season and reopens in April 2013.For our smoking visitors, we have a heated smoking terrace area with its own bar.

Béla Ágoston is one of the most significant jazz musicians in Hungary and now he returns with two new formations: first, his „Frió” with free improvisation, then the „Kártett” that covers songs jazzy style by our cherished alternative rock band Kispál és a Borz which is a true curiosity.

I would like to create thoughts in the viewer that I, myself would never think of - states ef Zámbó in the intro of his homepage.After András Wahorn, László feLugossy and Sándor Bernáth(y), the fourth artist from A. E. Bizottság, István ef Zámbó has his solo exhibition being set up in March.The exhibition will be a retrospect of 10 years’ work, summarizing the whole period including a collection of oil paintings, manipulated prints and graphics, and collages.

According to the artist, the duvet in the title symbolizes past , while the pillow stands for his present work and, if we may add, someone with a past like him will definitely have splendid dreams on that pillow!

The exhibition opens on March 25 at 8 PM.Music by ef Zámbó Happy Dead Band.
