Milestones

This week the following boys all registered personal milestones.

Lachlan Port (U11 Comets) – 50 games Lochie was unable to celebrate his 50th with a win but he was named as one of the best and he would have enjoyed reaching this milestone.

Lachlan New (U11 Jets) – 50 games Lachlan had a double reason to celebrate, 1st his 50th game and his team had a convincing win by 43 points.

Josh Peker (U12 Comets) – 50 games

Although Josh was unable to celebrate his 50th with a win, he also would have enjoyed reaching this milestone.

Kai Yaffe (U12 Stars) – 50 games Although Kai was only able to play in the 2nd half of the match (due to another commitment), he will celebrate his 50th + 1 sensational games next match.

Mazel-Tov to all boys on reaching your milestones.

Round 10 Team Results & Match Reports

U9 Comets: Ajax 7.5 (47) d Oakleigh Dragons 5.8 (38) Goals: C. Sheezel 3, H. Sheezel 2, Eliau, Tadmore Best: Chrapot, Eliau, Joseph, C Sheezel, H Sheezel, Spicer Match Report Most participants in sport understand the enjoyment that comes when you win a game from behind and the Ajax Under 9 Comets experienced just that against the Oakleigh Dragons in frosty conditions at a big ground - the W.A. Scammell Reserve, Oakleigh South. The team opened well but gave away a late goal in the first term to lead by only a point at quarter time. The home side dominated the clearances early in the second quarter but this time it was a late goal to Ajax that helped them to fight back to be in arrears by only 9 points at the main break. Fighting injuries and a strong, confident side, the Jackers courageously drew back to be level at three quarter time and a strong final team saw the team record its third win in a row. U9 Jets: Ajax 6.6 (42) d Dingley Red 4.3 (27) Goals: Wasbutzki 3, Zielinkski 2, Nagar Best: Fell, Michelson, Mitsel, Nagar, Wasbutzki, Zielinkski Match Report Led by captain Tye and Jack, U9 Jets returned to the small Corrigan Oval looking to defeat the Dingoes once again as we did in Round 4. Dingley brought with them their physical style of play but Ajax matched it with them and ran out convincing 15 point winners. Corey played an amazing game with lots of possessions and kicked 3 great goals while Mia had a great time in the forward line slotting through 2 of her own. Gilad was reliable again on the scoreboard and Brodie solid in the backline. It was a tough encounter but a solid hard fought win by the entire team! U9 Stars: East Malvern 7.3 (45) d Ajax 2.7 (19) Goals: Fried 1,Shuster 1 Best: Fried, Kaye, Levin, Rosham, Shuster, Woolf Match Report The Under 9 Stars came up against the undefeated East Malvern team today, and soon learnt what is takes to play tough contested footy. Led by captains for the day, Oscar Kaye and Walter Minc, the Stars found themselves down by 3 quick goals at Qtr time. The coaches stated the team rules at Qtr time and by half time the Stars were right back in the game, trailing by 2 pts. The stars continued to try hard but were no match on the day for the tougher opposition. The stars continue to learn to be first to the ball and attack at all times. With the lightning premiership 2 games away, the Stars continue to improve their skills and attack on the footy, in readiness for the big day.

U10 Comets: East Sandringham 7.8 (50) d Ajax 6.8 (44) Goals: Bergman 2, Siegel 2, Nissen, Peker Best: Bergman, N Hershan, Jacobs, Mond, Peker, Siegel Match Report The boys were challenged today playing in new positions and responded as we knew they would - with a tenacity and determination that we have come to expect from the Comets. It was a hard fought tussle all day and the boys were piped on the line. Despite the loss we saw some fantastic games today from the boys that highlighted their versatility and skills. We are very proud of the effort and know that we will keep working and improving every week and the result may differ next time. U10 Jets: Ajax 16.11 (107) d Murrumbeena Maroon 3.7 (25) Goals: Bardas 4, Efron 2, Ehrlich 2, Kras 2, Landau 2, Maisner 2, Kanat, Olcha Best: Bardas, Ehrlich, Hatchuel, Kras, Kupshik, La Sala Match Report Today the team came to play and win, and they did. A dominant first half by the Jets, with a great team effort. In the third quarter the opposition started to come back, and it became an even quarter. In previous weeks the Jets let the opposition in the final quarter, but this week a strong defence and good play added 6 goals to the score and made the game a victory for the Jets! U11 Comets: East Sandringham 10.11 (71) d Ajax 7.1 (43) Goals: Anidam 2, Brick 2, Gross 2, Zuker Best: Deane, Gold, Gross, Port, Star, Taranto Match Report Despite a few key positioned Jackas out of the game, as well as suffering a couple of injuries during the game, the U11 Comets bravely fought hard for three quarters against top positioned East Sandringham. At three quarter time the score sat even. However a lacklustre and tired looking fourth quarter led to East Sandringham scoring 5 unanswered goals to win quite comfortably. It was a disappointing last quarter for the Jackas. If the boys are to win these tough last quarters against quality opposition we really need to work on playing four quarters of football rather than only three. Congratulations to a star defender, Lachie Port for playing 50 games.

U11 Jets: Ajax 8.9 (57) d St Bedes Mentone 2.2 (14) Goals: Fibishenko 3, Sheezel 2, Bursztyn, H Carp, Waislitz Best: Faiman, Fibishenko, Grodski, Herskope, Lenga, Sheezel Match Report With both of their coaches on an involuntary mid-season break, the U11 Jets put in their best four quarter effort for the year against St Bede’s Mentone. With the Jets sitting mid ladder, every game for the rest of the season is a crunch game if the Jets are to figure in the finals this season. Taking up the challenge the boys were fierce at the contest from the first siren, tackling with intent and getting numbers to every contest. The rewards came as their intensity rattled the opposition and the flood gates opened. Special mention to Barry Carp and Ricky Smorgon who stood up today in the absence of our regular coaches. Both did their prospects no harm in the shortlisting process for the Melbourne football job. Go Jets! U12 Comets: Murrumbeena Gold 10.8 (68) d Ajax 3.4 (22) Goals: Levine 2, Lipton Best: Siegel, Harris, Nissen, Levine, Bloom, Zukerman Match Report Determined effort in the first half and very competitive, but fell away in the second half to be over run by a good running team. Great games again from our two on ballers, and a personal best game from Jesse Nissen. We need to regain the intensity of the first half and use it in the remaining games to hopefully pinch a few wins. U12 Jets: St Kilda City 6.11(47) d Ajax 2.1 (13) Goals: Jacobs 2 Best: Cowan, Duieb, Franks, Goldberg, Jacobs, Nirens Match Report Got off to a slow start against very strong opposition which once again cost us dearly. Following half time, the Jackers showed their grit going in hard – but disposal by foot let us down throughout the day. We have had a tough draw but have been competitive in all games so the team takes confidence going into next week’s home fixture.

U12 Stars: Ajax 4.12 (36) d Hampton 3.3 (21) Goals: N Micmacher 2, N Star 2 Best: Kalb, Machlin, N Micmacher, Samuels, Segeal, Winnik Match Report Despite the absence of Arndt, Lang, Feldman and Freedman the Stars won their game. The 1st qtr saw many opportunities but none of them converted. Machlin and Winnik could not be penetrated and their tackling was sublime. By the 2nd Qtr, Kalb staked his claim on the game – he was superb in getting the ball to the forward pocket each and every time. 3rd and 4th quarter saw a tough contest with scoring on both sides, however Lipp managed to contain Hampton after he was moved into defence. Samuels got the coaches attention with much action in 4th qtr. Special thanks to 2 x awesome U11 players – Noah Star scored the first 2 goals of the game and Jeremy Deane excelled on the field with fearless tackling – thanks guys

U13 Jets: Waverley Park 7.11 (53) d Ajax 4.6 (30) Goals: Star 3, Kupshik 1 Best: Aisen, Briggs, Pat, Smorgon, Star, Zeimer Match Report A vastly improved effort by the boys today. With no one on the bench, the boys put their hearts, bodies and souls into today’s game. Really unlucky not to win this one. A little more consistency and that fat lady will move right down to the boundary line and right out of the stalls and sing proudly. Well done boys. Fabulous effort today! U13 Comets: Ormond 7.8 (50) d Ajax 7.7 (49) Goals: Efron 2, Hymans 2, Lincoln, Ossip, Webb Best: Antman, Efron, Hendel, Lincoln, Michelson, Wise Match Report Again beautiful conditions for footy a massive ground meant run and carry with the ball a must. With 18 of us against 17 we thought we could get on top of them early which we did but in the end our boys could not match their hunger and desire. The game was there for us to be won but unfortunately lost by a single point, we hope that this shattering defeat will only mean that the boys come out stronger and with more desire for the rest of the season. U14 Comets: Mt Waverley 11.11 (77) d Ajax 6.4 (40) Goals: Syber 2, Beaconsfield, Berlinski, Liberman, Opat Best: Berlinski, Rosham, Shapiro, Spilkin, Syber, Velleman Match Report A solid four quarter performance today. All the boys put in a great effort and the team can holds their heads high that they gave it everything. You can’t ask for more than that. There are a number of boys who are unlucky to not be named in the best.

U15 Girls: Ajax Jackettes 2.12 (24) d Mt Waverley Falcons 3.2 (20) Goals: Friedman 1, Silver 1. Best: Altman, Friedman, I Guoga, Silver, Wise, Zivin Match Report Who are we, where are we, we’re the Girls from AJAX Football club……… What a fabulous way to start this week’s match report. Today the Jackettes were back playing at home against a new team in the Mt Waverley Falcons and 14 Jackettes ran onto oval 4 behind the Captain for the match, Bianca Silver. The 1st quarter had the Jackettes pumping the ball into their forward line on at least 8 occasions but couldn’t register a score. The 2nd quarter saw the Jackettes score 1 goal & I point and went into the break 5 points down. Coach Braham & Asst Coach Danielle’s address was for them to kick long and direct and once in the forward line keep it in there. The Jackettes carried out the instructions but instead of kicking goals in the quarter they kicked 7 points. They came into the huddle 1 point up. The Jackettes came into the huddle all “pumped up” and eager to get back onto the field for the final 15 minutes. The final quarter saw the Jackettes have 2 early shots on goal but only registered points so they were 3 points up. Mt Waverley scored a behind then followed up with a quick goal so the Jackettes were now 4 points behind. The Jackettes were desperate for the ball and kept the ball in the forward line but finding it hard to score that elusive goal. A further 2 points were kicked so they were now 2 points behind. 7 minutes were left on the clock and the fight for the ball was intense by both teams. The Jackettes full back (Cassie) drifted forward and her long shot for goal bounced through for a much needed team lifting (and subsequent match winning goal). Michael Rothschild who was officiating at the end to which the Jackettes were kicking to jumped up with jubilation before signalling the goal. Parents & coaches did the same thing. Mt Waverley had one last foray into their forward line but it was marked by Cheryl. The siren rang to end the game and the jubilation on the girl’s faces, coaches and parents was a sight to behold. After acknowledging the umpire and the opposition with “3 cheers” and then shaking hands with them, everyone involved with the team couldn’t get back to the change-rooms quick enough to form a circle and blast out the words, and I mean blast out the words…..Who are we, where are we, we’re the Girls from AJAX Football club, we fight for victory, losers we’ll never be, as we fight for the flag, AJAX, AJAX, up the ladder we go higher, every forward is a flyer, every backman is a trier, AJAX, AJAX, AJAX football club is here. Well done girls, everyone was so proud of your efforts today, enjoy the next 2 weeks off and when we front up to Mordialloc Braeside on the 14th July, let’s aim to make it back-to-back wins. U15 Jets: East Malvern 10.5 (65) d Ajax 8.9 (57) Goals: J Cohen 3, Davis 2, Nissenbaum, Paltiel, Wise Best: J Cohen, Krakauer, Nissenbaum, Paltiel, Shalev, Wise Match Report The u15 jets suffered another heartbreaking loss, the third for the year, at the hand of the second place east malvern. Playing part of the game a man short the boys played some of their best footy for the year, only to be overrun late in the game.

Page 11: AAAJJJAAAXXX FFFCCC JJJUUUNNNIIIOOORRRSSS · Goals: Fried 1,Shuster 1 ... Mond, Peker, Siegel Match Report The boys were challenged today playing in new positions and responded as

U15 Comets: Ajax 28.13 (181) d Mordialloc Braeside 3.5 (23) Goals: Nadelman (6), Cohen (5), Hymans (5), Klooger (3), Takac (3), Glasser (2), Belnick, Givoni, Lipszyc, Rosenbaum Best: Cohen, Hymans, Lipszyc, Nadelman, J Port, Zeimer Match Report None reported. U16: Ajax 7.8 (50) d St Peters 6.13 (49) Goals: Levy 4, Ash, New, Teleshevsky Best: Baron, Kingston, Korman, Levy, Michelson, New Match Report A tough tight game befitting the top two teams. Never anything in it, but the team fought incredibly hard in the final quarter. Well done to every player. U17: St Peters 9.13 (67) d Ajax 9.4 (58) Goals: Klien 3, Brygel 2, Havin 2, Marom, Shapiro Best: Alter, Braverman, Burston, Fitt, Marom, Velleman Match Report Looking to back up a win after the previous week, the boys came switched on and ready to go. The midfielders fought tirelessly all day, with the usual suspects having outstanding games. Although, this wasn't consistent enough, and it showed on the scoreboard, going down by 9 points.

Tisher Liner FC Law “Legal Tip of the Week”

In season 2013 the Wrap will cover a NEW Legal Tip that EVERYONE should read. It will

be provided by , one of the club’s sponsors.

This week’s LEGAL TIP OF THE WEEK is:

POWERS OF ATTORNEY

A Power of Attorney is a document authorising one or more persons (known as “Attorney/s”) to sign contracts, agreements, deeds and other documents and to make decisions, on behalf of the person who grants the power (often called the “Donor”). There are several types of Powers of Attorney. The most common forms are General Powers of Attorney and Enduring Powers of Attorney (Financial). A General Power of Attorney is often used for shorter periods of time, for example when the Donor is travelling overseas and requires documents to be signed by an Attorney in his/her absence, and is no longer valid if the Donor becomes of unsound mind. An Enduring Power of Attorney operates in a similar way but remains valid even when the Donors lose their mental or physical capacity, so this form is used more widely for elderly persons for example. Unless revoked earlier, an Enduring Power of Attorney ordinarily remains valid until the death of the Donor.

Page 12: AAAJJJAAAXXX FFFCCC JJJUUUNNNIIIOOORRRSSS · Goals: Fried 1,Shuster 1 ... Mond, Peker, Siegel Match Report The boys were challenged today playing in new positions and responded as

[12]

Other forms of Power of Attorney include Enduring Powers of Attorney (Medical Treatment) where the Attorney is appointed to make medical treatment decisions if the Donor loses capacity to do so, and Enduring Powers of Guardianship, where the Attorney is appointed to make lifestyle decisions, such as where the Donor lives, in the event that the Donors lose capacity to make those decisions for themselves. Donors need to choose their Attorneys very carefully to ensure that they enter into agreements and make decisions having regard to the best interests of the Donor. A Power of Attorney may be made and revoked at any time, subject to the Donor having sufficient mental capability to make decisions at the time of revocation. Please contact Ron Cohen of Tisher Liner FC Law to discuss any of your legal needs.

AFL’s “Women’s Round”

In recognition of the AFL’s “Women’s Round” being played this coming weekend, the Weekly Wrap acknowledges all women for their commitment and dedication to the AJFC, and for football in general. Over the years and including this year, numerous women have been involved in the AJFC as team trainers, team managers, managing the operations of the canteen and mothers who perform various rostered parent duties for their teams each week. In the lead up to “Women’s Round” the Weekly Wrap sought out Danielle Shmerling (Assistant Coach of the AJAX “Jackettes” team to obtain her answers to 10 probing questions. Q1. Do you have a nick-name? A) Danni. Q2. Outside of football what do you do? A) I'm technically a high school teacher. Q3. How long have you been involved with the AJFC? A) This is my second year. Q4. What were you reason(s) you wanted to become involved with the AJFC? A) I love footy and I knew that being female it would be hard to get involved so this opportunity was something I had to do. Also my brother Michael played a big part. (Michael currently coaches the U17’s). Q5. Who has been the biggest influence on your coaching career to date? A) umm… no one really comes to mind.. but I do enjoy coaching with Braham, makes me laugh. (Braham is the coach of the AJAX “Jackettes” team). Q6. Why? A) Braham is funny??? Q7. The club has lots of dedicated people involved in one way or another. Who are the people you admire within the club, and why? A) Honestly, I don’t know many people within the club, but I do admire the work that Cooky does because as far as I’ve seen he is always there and does a lot and is one friendly guy! (That’s a good wrap for you Cook!!!) Not only him, but also you David, because as far as I’ve seen I have never seen someone so committed to a team like him. He does so much for the Jackettes and we probably wouldn’t be the same team if it weren’t for him and his 20,000 emails. (Is that each week or season Danni?) And of course the parents of the Jackettes who support the team, commitment at its finest.

Q8. What does “Women’s Round” mean to you? A) Means a lot. Because I believe that women go unrecognized within football, and people seem to forget that behind every great man is an even better woman, whether that be a mother or partner. Women deserve to have the same recognition in football, because there involved in the other aspects of footy. Q9. What advice can you offer to other women who may be considering joining the club in any capacity? A) Go for it! Women can do anything they want to do, it’s about standing up for what you want and doing what you love. Q10. The final question. In 10 words all less, complete this sentence. If I was the President of the AJFC I would…………. A) Continue to make sure that everyone is loving the game. Thank you Danielle for sharing your thoughts with the AJFC Community. We wish you all the very best for the remainder of the season and hope you continue your involvement with the club.

Junior Football School Holiday Program

Junior Football

School Holidays Program The AJAX Football Club is excited to offer our Junior footballers a great ‘school holidays football program’, to sharpen their skills and fitness at the midway point of the 2013 season while having lots of fun! Leigh McQuillen, Ajax Seniors Coach and Physical Education Teacher, has developed an innovative football program covering all facets of football for the boys of the Ajax Junior club. The program is designed to improve each child’s skills and maximise their enjoyment. What a great way for your child or children to enjoy the start of their holidays and be trained by our Senior Coach, Senior Assistant Coaches and Physical Education teachers. A current AFL superstar will be on hand during the camp to help out with ‘skill acquisition’, talk to the kids and of course sign autographs and have photos taken. As will some current Ajax Senior footballers who will be guiding and developing the kids throughout the Program. The Kids will be split into age groups and undertake age appropriate football based activities as a part of their 3 day program. The following areas will be covered:

Kicking technique

Marking techniques

Handball technique

Body work Tackling skills Running & Fitness (including testing) Agility Teamwork

Rules

Positional Play

Match Play

Each child will receive an individualised report at the completion of the 3 days.

Whilst this is NOT an Ajax Junior Football Club program, it is a wonderful opportunity to learn the game from our current senior coaching panel and players. Senior coach, Leigh McQuillen, has implemented junior development programs for the Eastern Ranges (U’18 TAC AFL VIC) recently and has a wonderful insight into junior football development and pathways. He is a respected school teacher, as are his assistants, and his experience in running these types of programs for children will ensure your child has a wonderful, structured and organised football experience.

C

SEASON 2013 AJAX WEEKLY WRAP ,

ROUND 10

AJAX FC Club Sponsor

Jackas down in

1pt loss.

by Ian Fayman

What a wonderful day for footy -

3rd V 4th in perfect conditions.

J-air.com.au was there doing an

OB(outdoor broadcast) via internet

radio, taking a live broadcast of

the game to the Jewish

Community around the world via

the internet.

The ball was bounced for start of

game and everyone knew this

would be a tough hard game of

footy. Ritter laid a great tackle,

creating turnover, for Routman to

pick up loose footy, handball to

Brad Caplan for AJAX's first goal.

Poyas then smothered brilliantly,

for Chester to intercept a kick and

run in for a great goal. But 2 free

kicks in a row gave Old

Melbournian(OM) speedy

responses.

Ritterman and Routman were

playing great quarters, but another

undisciplined footy passage gave

OM's its 3rd goal from a free kick.

Corey Jankie, then did a

wonderful run through the centre

for a great pass to Fayman and he

converted.

Lewski laid great tackle, causing

turnover, for Kalb to collect and

handball to Poyas for a goal and

AJAX were in front-but another

free kick to OM's for a quick

reply. Both teams were 4.1 at

quarter time.

Coach Macca told the players to

maintain the intensity, pressure but

get to the ball first rather than give

away the free kicks. OM’s lifted in

2nd , and were running harder and

were physically breaking the

AJAX tackles. Both sides were

showing great desperation.

Shafar and Kalmus were excellent

in defence. Ritterman was giving

great drive off the half back line.

A long kick forward and with

Fayman getting lots of attention he

grabbed a great one handed mark

and kicked the goal. But OMs

replied again immediately.

It was goal for goal in a great

game of footy. Poyas was showing

his enormous strength, as he broke

a tackle, ran through the pack,

pass to Lew for a wonderful goal.

But again OM kicked off the

ground in goal square for the

reply. AJAX 6.3 to OM 6.3

Third quarter opened and OM

kicked the first goal quickly.

AJAX was 2nd to the ball,

tackling hard, but OMs were

getting on top. Marcus Jankie was

trying to lift his players as was

Josh Ludski, but OMs were

peppering the goals, but only

scoring points, keeping

AJAX in the game.

Rischin,Chester,Poyas,Routman

and Lewski were working hard but

some of their kicks forward were

ineffective. AJAX did not score

for the quarter with OM kicking

1.7 at ¾ quarter time it was AJAX

6.3 and OM 7.9. OM’s should

have been a long way ahead.

Coach said it was AJAX's worst

quarter for the year, but told the

players: "forget the past, play

with confidence and back

yourself."

OM started the last quarter much

better than AJAX. OM’s were

playing better and kicked the

first goal. But Poyas, Ludski and

Jankie would not give up.

Josh Ludski got a loose ball and

kicked a great pass to Lew for a

long goal. Then Kalb intercepted

a throw-in for a wonderful snap

goal. AJAX then got its 3rd for

the quarter through some

excellent team work with Caplan

finally kicking the goal. AJAX

were 3 point down with 8

minutes to play. OM’s got a late

goal from a kick off the ground,

but Winograd intercepted an

OM pass, to kick a long

goal.OM had pushed many of its

players to the backline. Poyas

put a wonderful heavy tackle and

was awarded the kick. He had a

long shot from the boundary-for a

point. With only seconds to play

AJAX scrambled 1 point and in

the end ran out loser by the

smallest possible margin-1 point.

Reserves

AJAX were no match for a slicker

OM’s side and went down by 65

points.

Thirds were well beaten by

OM’s, Zev Aron kicked 4 goals in

a best on ground performance.
