Milestones

These boys registered personal milestones in Round 2.

Benjamin Krongold (U12 Comets) – 50 games.

Although Benji was unable to celebrate his 50th game milestone with a win, he would have enjoyed running through the banner with his team-mates.

Benjamin Michelson (U16’s) – 100 games.

Benji celebrated his 100th in style with his team having a massive 164 point win. Dakota Lipton (U16’s) – 100 games.

In his 100th, Dakota had a blinder of a match, slotting 5 majors in his team’s 164 point win.

Jacob Bulafkin (U17’s) – 50 games. Jacob kicked a goal in his 50th match and his team had a good win by 13 points. Mazel-Tov to all milestone players on reaching these personal milestones.

Tisher Liner FC Law “Legal Tip of the Week”

In season 2013 the Wrap will cover a NEW Legal Tip that EVERYONE should read. It will

be provided by , one of the club’s sponsors.

This week’s LEGAL TIP OF THE WEEK is: If you are considering the purchase of a property, whether residential, commercial or otherwise, it is highly advisable to have a solicitor to review the Contract and Vendors Statement for the property before the Contract is signed. This is to ensure that there are no onerous conditions, requirements or restrictions affecting the property such as easements, covenants and rights of way. Your solicitor will be able to identify and advise you on any issues before you sign the Contract. Often this review would be incorporated into your conveyancing quote. Although an individual purchaser of residential property may have “cooling off” rights and terminate signed contracts in certain circumstances, it is nevertheless prudent for a solicitor to review your Contract before signing. Until recently a purchaser could not exercise their rights to cool off if they obtained independent legal advice prior to signing a Contract. However, amendments made to legislation now entitle purchasers to retain their cooling off rights even if they receive prior legal advice. Note however, that in exercising cooling off rights, a purchaser will still have to pay a penalty of either $100 or 0.2% of the purchase price, whichever is the greater. Tisher Liner FC Law has an extremely experienced property and conveyancing team and would be happy to assist with your property purchases. Please contact Ron Cohen of Tisher Liner FC Law to discuss any of your legal needs.

Round 2 Team Results & Match Reports

U9 Comets: Ajax 8.7 (55) d St. Bedes Mentone Tigers Blue 4.4.28 Goals: Carrick 3, H. Sheezel 2, Light, Solomon, Spicer. Best: Carrick, Eliau, Light, Okun, H Sheezel, Spicer. Match Report The Ajax Comets broke the ice for the season with a strong win over St. Bedes Mentone Tigers Blue. They teamed much better this week and won the ball in the all-important midfield duels and are already showing great improvement. U9 Jets: Ajax 3.8 (26) d Mordialloc Braeside White 1.3 (9) Goals: Feder, Segman, Wasbutzki Best: Feder, Fell, Goldfarb, Nirens, Segman, Wasbutzki Match Report Led by captains Natan and Mia, U9 Jets recorded their first win of the season with another sensational team effort of hard fought football! Starting quietly without scoring in the first quarter, the Jets then found their stride scoring nicely and then dominating the remainder of the game through Gabe’s strong marking and big kicking and great contested efforts by Remi and first gamer Jordan. Jonah Faigen also saw a lot of the football and set up some great goals. The club song was sung loud and proud with water sprayed everywhere! U9 Stars: Ajax 2.7 (19) d Ormond 2.2 (14) Goals: Star 2 Best: Alter, Chalfon, Edwards, Guttmann, Star, Woolf Match Report In bright sunshine again, and away from our home ground fortress, the Ajax Stars came out full of running in the 1st quarter. Full of enthusiasm and team spirit, the Stars were led by their captains Jordyn and Aaron Birnbaum. Ajax controlled the first quarter by following the team rules of run, carry and kick long, and managed to kick 6 behinds. Against the wind in the second quarter, it was a hard fought effort by Ajax defenders, who followed team rule of sticking on your man, and as a result Ajax managed to stay just ahead. The second half was a close fought contest and our boys dug deep to keep winning the ball to go on and win a close contest. The boys learnt today that an open forward half, leads to more scoring for Ajax, so the learning continues as does the singing of the club song after the game. Go Stars!

U10 Comets: St Kilda City Red 9.5 (59) d Ajax 7.6 (48) Goals: Jacobs 2, Kavallero 2, Briskin, Nissen, Peker Best: Bergman, Briskin, Peker, Siegel, Szer, Vogel Match Report All week we asked the boys to give their all and that’s exactly what they did. In a game that resembled a traditional football scrap the boys attacked the ball all day. The defenders repelled opposition attacks time and again. The mids ran hard all day and were usually the last to get up with the ball from the bottom of the packs. The forwards flew for the ball and peppered the scoreboard. We’re in a high division and every win will need to be earned. However, if we maintain the effort we will sing the song really soon. U10 Jets: Ajax 16.12 (108) d East Brighton Vampires JFC 0.0 (0)

Goals: Bardas 3, Felbel 2, Kanat 2, Landau 2, Ehrlich, Maisner, Rajch, Robinson, Schmidt, Schwarz, Spark.

Best: Antman, Ehrlich, Kras, Rajch, Schmidt, Zielinski

Match Report The boys were terrific today. They executed on the drills that we practised at training including the all important run-and-carry skill. We opened up with a burst in the first quarter which was fantastic - the boys shared the ball around and the teamwork was great.

Leigh and I mixed up the positions over the next 3 quarters, it was a great opportunity to get the kids to experience different roles in different parts of the ground. Well done boys - onwards and upwards.

Dan and Leigh

U11 Comets: Ajax 5.9 (39) d Oakleigh 5.4.34 Goals: Davis, Deane, Gold, Lewin, Taranto Best: Cohen D, Deane, Port, Star, Taranto, Zuker Match Report Following a heartbreak loss last week by 2 points, the boys bounced back excellently, with a nail-biting win by 5 points. The first quarter where we kicked three goals to zip, was absolutely brilliant as the Jackas showed some fierce attack on the ball as well as laying some strong tackles. However a quiet second quarter, saw us losing the lead, showing just how important a four quarter performance can be. But to their credit, these boys found that intensity they were playing with in the beginning and turned things around, outscoring Oakleigh in the third and fourth quarter to hold onto a sensational win. From the signs we saw today, we could not be more impressed by their performance and we now expect nothing less from them, as we know what they can do when they are switched on. This week we will try focus on setting up ‘the wall’ in our forward line, as well as the importance of shepparding and following a man in the opposition’s kick outs. Other than that, a great effort today!

U11 Jets: Ajax 4.2 (26) d Dingley Black 2.6 (18) Goals: Herskope, Mitsel, Sheezel, Weeden Best: A Carp, Fibishenko, Herskope, Sheezel, Smorgon, Waislitz Match Report A great win for the Jets side today playing away against Dingley. Whilst the game was highlighted by a strong defensive effort across the whole team, special mention must be given to Toby Sheezel, who inspired the team with an early contender for goal of the season, after a brilliant smother and pick-up for long range goal. U12 Comets: Hampton 10.5 (65) d Ajax 4.5 (29) Goals: Kotzman, Siegel, Levine, Lipton Best: Harris, Kotzman, Krongold, Lipton, Southwick, Zukerman. Match Report Congratulations to Beni Krongold on 50 games, what a great achievement. Unfortunately we couldn’t pull off a win to help you celebrate. We got beaten by a better side today, but we stuck at it and managed to kick the last 2 goals of the game. Some great efforts from Zuky, Gabe, Tyler, Toby and Connor. No matter what everyone says, winning is important, but it is also important that you play as mensches, and you did that today and we were very proud of you. U12 Jets: Oakleigh 10.5 (65) d Ajax 2.12 (24) Goals: Jacobs 2 Best: Cowan, Garson, Goldberg, Guttmann, Jacobs, Match Report A gritty performance against a classy opposition. Jacobs starred with 2 goals. Had 14 scoring shots to their 15 so it wasn’t for a lack of opportunity. Players to focus on decision making and accountability in training this week and look for some big improvement next week. U12 Stars: Ajax 8.9 (57) d East Sandringham U12 Blue 3.4 (22) Goals: Chrapot 3, Wise 3, Boymal 1, Feldman 1 Best: Chrapot, Kalb, Lipp, Machlin, Rosenberg, Slomoi Match Report The Stars have returned! It was a good omen watching Boymal take a confident mark and then slot the ball through the big sticks, opening the scoring for the Stars in the 2013 season. The scoring continued well into the 2nd quarter, with Wise putting 3 goals away in succession in the 2nd quarter. By the half-time siren, the Stars had a stranglehold on the game with a commanding lead of 33-0.

U12 Stars (continued) The 3rd quarter saw a lull on the scoreboard, but in the 4th quarter Chrapot returned to his usual form with 2 goals. Special mention to Arndt who assisted in lightning-quick time to Feldman who converted. Well done to all! U13 Jets: Northvale 13.11 (89) d Ajax 1.0 (6) Goals: Gross. Best: Braverman, Briggs, Friede, Kupshik, Slonim, Tepper Match Report Another tough day at the office for the U13 Jets. The first quarter saw some real improvement compared to last week – everyone putting in. As the match went on, Northvale took control and kicked on to win the game comfortably. The Jets should hold their heads high – a win is not far away. They have played possibly the two strongest teams in this division. Good times ahead. U13 Comets: Ajax 15.12 (102) d Hampton 4.3 (27) Goals: Ossip 3, Zielinski 3, Efron 2, Michelson 2, Wise 2, Antman, Moshinsky, Smart Best: Antman, Hymans, Michelson, Ossip, Wise, Zielinski Match Report None Reported. U14 Comets: Beaumaris 18.7 (115) d Ajax 3.3 (21) Goals: Berlinski, Fraid, Teperman Best: Beaconsfield, Liberman, Meltzer, Spilkin, Teperman, Zuckerman Match Report Another tough day against last year’s grand finalist. Our boys can hold their heads high as their first three quarters were outstanding. We worked hard around the ground, putting pressure on the opposition and running all day. A lot of things we didn’t do last week. A seven goal blow out in the last quarter made for a big margin but even the opposing coach (Dermott Brereton) came over to congratulate our boys on the effort they put in. If we play like this every week we are sure to win some games in Division 1. Well done to the whole team.

U15 Girls (Jackettes): Highett Girls 11.12 (78) d Ajax 2.2 (14) Goals: Altman, I Guoga. Best: Borowitz, Cherry, I Guoga, Rose, Rothschild, Wise Match Report Today the Jackettes were playing an away match against Highett. The morning commenced with the sun shining and the ground with a bit of “dew” on the surface. 14 Jackettes played today with the Captain being Jessica. She won the toss and the girls took up their positions. The 1st quarter saw the Jackettes have lots of great passages of play that involved every Jackette. Morgan was in the thick of the action and good marks were taken by Maddy & Cheryl. The Jackettes pushed the ball forward and registered their 1st score for the season when the Highett defenders rushed the ball through for a behind. Amanda, Romy, Cassie, Mia & Melisa were also involved in several good passages of play. Zali, Ieva, Miff, Bianca, Alicia & Jessica were moving the ball through the centre and pumping it into the forward line by Highett had taller girls in the backline who were taking marks. The siren rang to end the quarter with the score being Jackettes 0.1.1 to Highett 3.1.19. Coach Braham and Asst Coach Danielle were pleased with how the Jackettes played during the quarter. The 2nd quarter saw Jackettes move the ball forward. A good passage of play started off in the centre square where Alicia gathered the ball, then passed it off to Miff who in turn kicked it into the forward line. Highett tried to clear the ball but good pressure by Romy & Melisa saw the Highett girls turn over the ball where Zali swooped on it and slotted through her very 1st goal of her career and the 1

st Jackettes goal for season 2013. The crowd erupted in loud cheers. Mia, Cheryl, Amanda,

Ieva, Morgan & Jessica were all picking up possessions with good tackling pressure being applied by Bianca. Alicia, Maddy & Cassie were all playing well and teaming up together in the backline. The siren rang to end the 1st half with the score being Jackettes 1.1.7 to Highett 6.5.41. This week the Borowitz family supplied the oranges and just like last week they were gone in a flash. Braham and Danielle addressed the team and praised their efforts & commitments in the 1st half. Braham’s closing address to the girls was a classic that should go down in history as a classic quote. He said (quote) “girls don’t worry about your hair, just concentrate on your football” (unquote). Nice one Braham, luckily no-one was wearing make-up!!! The 3rd quarter saw the Jackettes showing plenty of desperation and this was typified when Highett kicked a hard low kick towards their goal and Cassie who was playing at full back jumped up and got her fingers onto the ball and touched it over the line for a point. Well done Cassie. Cheryl was winning a lot of the hard balls and shot out a good hand pass to Mia who moved it forward. Alicia, Morgan, Maddy & Amanda all saw lots of the ball and fought hard to retain possession. Melisa, Romy, Ieva, Miff & Zali gathered the ball during the quarter and looked for teammates in better positions. All girls worked hard to push the ball forward and once in the forward line Bianca swooped on the loose ball and had a quick kick for goal but unfortunately went through for a point. Late in the quarter Jessica fought her way through heavy traffic and had a shot on goal but it was marked right on the line by a Highett defender. The siren rang to end the quarter with the scores being Jackettes 1.2.8 to Highett 9.8.62. The last quarter saw Maddy, Cassie, Amanda, Mia & Melisa all find the ball on several occasions and Alicia taking good marks, then running & carrying the ball forward. Zali, Cheryl, Jessica, Romy & Miff were all tackling hard and forcing the opposition into errors. Morgan gathered a hard ball at centre half forward and kicked it into open space whereby Bianca pounced on it and gathered it up. Bianca had an open avenue to goal so she firstly touched the ball onto the ground but left it behind so she stopped in her tracks to pick it up then she had 1 attempt to get her foot to the ball but didn’t succeed, so she then had a 2nd attempt to kick the ball but also didn’t succeed so she went for a 3rd time to kick the ball but also didn’t succeed.

U15 Girls (Jackettes) (continued) So after 3 attempts without success Bianca kept the ball in the goal square where Ieva pounced on it and slotted through her 1st goal for the season and the Jackettes 2nd for the match. (It was a shame Mark wasn’t there to see the efforts by Bianca in this passage of play). The siren rang to end the match with the final score being Jackettes 2.2.14 to Highett 11.12.78. After the match the Highett team awarded Miff the best player of the day award and she was presented with voucher to use at their canteen. Coach Braham was pleased with the girls efforts shown today and some girls learnt that partying hard on a Saturday night severely had an effect on their game day performance, however, the girls performance was an improvement on last week’s efforts and the team worked towards the team goals. My thanks go out to the parents rostered on duty today being the Borowitz family (for the oranges & umpires escort), Goal Umpire (Norman Rose, Timekeeper (Nina Friedman), Boundary Umpire (Yardena Solomon), Runner (Sonney Roth), Trainer (Paul Wise), and Water Person (Brendan Cherry). Also thanks to Braham & Danielle and to the parents and grandparents who were at the match supporting the Jackettes. David & Braham U15 Jets: Beaumaris 9.12 (66) d Ajax 9.8 (62) Goals: Syber 3, J.Cohen 2, Aufgang, Carp, Nissenbaum, Sandler Best: J.Cohen, R.Cohen, Krakauer, Nissenbaum, Syber, Wise Match Report None reported. U15 Comets: Ormond 15.11 (101) d Ajax 7.8 (59) Goals: Klooger 5, Gordon, Lederberger Best: Givoni, Klooger, Kluwgant, Lebowitz, Port, Zeimer Match Report A great effort and first 3 quarters by the boys against a tough opposition, just unable to hold on in the last. U16: Ajax 25.20 (170) d Oakleigh 1.0 (6) Goals: Lipton 5, Teleshevshy 4, Beaconsfield 3, Levy 3, Paluch 2, Mastellone 2, Ash, Braun, Efron, Fisher, Hamilton, Kingston Best: Beaconsfield, Fisher, Levy, Lipton, Kingston, Teleshevsky Match Report Another solid team performance in what was a big win. The team is trying to maintain their “good habits” by doing the small things consistently well for 4 quarters. There is an exciting week ahead to achieve our first team goal – going up a division.

Page 10: AAAJJJAAAXXX R FFFCCC JJJUUUNNNIIIOOORRSSS · Often this review would be incorporated into your conveyancing quote. Although an individual purchaser of residential property may have

U17: Ajax 8.9 (57) d St Pauls 6.8 (44) Goals: Shapiro 2, Bassat, Bassin, Bulafkin, Havin, Krakauer, Paltiel Best: Bassat, Burston, Herszberg, Menahem, Paltiel, Valleman Match Report Skill and courage were the themes for today against an opposition that in the past have provided Ajax of all teams, past or present some headaches. From the first bounce to the last, the Ajax boys showed great composure and walked away from this game with a hard fought 2 goal win. Joel Burston was unstoppable at Centre Halfback, Jesse Valliman amazing in the middle and the other co-captain Dovi Patiel leading the way through his skill and run. Overall a great result, now it’s time to back it up in round 3.

Maccabi Victoria Annual Community Appeal

We need the support of our football community!!!

Our club has been successful in receiving a grant from Maccabi which will facilitate the supply of new equipment and contribute towards coaching programs in 2013. Of course, this will be of great benefit to both our playing group and coaches.

As a condition of the grant, the club needs to recruit some of our members and supporters to assist with the Maccabi Victoria Links for Life Telephone Appeal during the week of 28th April to 2nd May 2013. This support will increase the funds available for grants in future years to the club.

Volunteers are only asked to spare 2 hours of their time during the period above at the offices of Beth Weizmann, 306 Hawthorn Rd.

Please consider this request to help out the club for only 2 hours – we’d LOVE to have at least 2 people representing each of our teams.

For further information please contact John Deane at [email protected] or alternatively, for session times and to sign up directly to make some calls, visit http://macvic10.wufoo.com/forms/volunteer-sign-up/

Jackas at the “G”

Ajax junior footballers from Under 10, 11 and 12 teams hit the MCG for the half time grid match at the recent Collingwood-Carlton blockbuster. In front of a huge crowd of just under 85,000, the Ajax Junior Football Club put on a magnificent half time exhibition. 36 Ajax boys were given a unique opportunity to throw on the Pies and Blues guernseys. Despite the greasy conditions, both teams displayed incredible skill. Of course, the Ajax spirit and enthusiasm was plentiful. The Ajax Pies got away to an early lead courtesy of some strong centre clearance work. Not to be outdone, the Ajax Blues clawed their way back into the game. Too little, too late for the Blues, as the Pies finished the stronger pulling way at the end. The juniors were not on their own out on the hallowed turf, as Ajax another fielded 36 boys in four Auskick grid games in front of the Southern Stand. The boys had a sensational time, and almost enjoyed being out there as much as their parents (the editor thanks Rod Nirens & John Deane for this article and the following pictures)

Modified Rules for U9’s & U10’s

The SMJFL have modified rules for both the U9 & U10 Competitions. The rules relate to the areas of:

• Contact • Bumping • Tackling

The Modified Rules are detailed below and if you require clarification speak to your Team Manager.

Rule Application

1. Playing Time U10 girls: 4 quarters x 10 mins U9, U10, U12 girls: 4 quarters x 12 mins

2. Breaks U9, U10: ¼ time: 3 min; ½ time: 10 min; ¾ time: 5 min U10 girls, U12 girls: ¼ time: 3 min; ½ time: 6 min; ¾ time: 3 min

3. Out of Bounds Where kicked out of bounds (regardless of whether it bounced before being out of bounds) a free kick is awarded against the player who last kicked the ball. This free kick will be taken by the closest player to where the ball went out of play. If there is any doubt, or if the ball came off hands or a body, the umpire

shall call a ball‐up 10 metres in from the boundary.

4. Gaining Possession

A player’s prime objective should be to gain possession of the ball (eyes on the ball). No deliberate contact is permitted. ‘Running with’ the player rather than ‘running at’ the player must be the intention. Any deliberate contact or contact to the back is strictly prohibited. Once the ball is possessed, other players may apply a hold and release tackle (refer to rule 5)

Page 14: AAAJJJAAAXXX R FFFCCC JJJUUUNNNIIIOOORRSSS · Often this review would be incorporated into your conveyancing quote. Although an individual purchaser of residential property may have

5. Tackling (Hold and Release)

Players can “Hold and Release” an opposition player in possession of the ball by grabbing the jumper only with one or two hands. When in possession of the ball there is strictly no bumping, slinging or deliberately bringing the player in possession of the ball to the ground. Grabbing the arms, hair, shorts or applying a wrap around tackle is not permitted. When the player is “Held and Released” the umpire acknowledges the hold by loudly calling “Hold”. The player applying the hold must immediately let go. A free kick will be awarded to the player in possession for holding the man if this rule is breached. If the hold is released correctly, an umpire countdown of “3, 2, 1” will commence and the player in possession must kick or handball by the time the umpire has counted down. A holding the ball free kick will be awarded to the closest player if this rule is breached. Players cannot: knock the ball out of an opponent’s hands push the player in the side steal the ball from another player bump an opponent Sling, pull or otherwise apply force when ‘holding’ a player. Specifics: The countdown will be of the following format: “HOLD! [player releases hold] 3 [1 sec], 2 [ 1 sec], 1” and will be called out loud so that the players around the ball can hear. Where a player holds and releases, then another player starts holding (ie. two sequential holds), a free kick will be awarded for holding the man. Where two players hold a player at the same time (ie. two simultaneous holds) play will continue.

6. Ball‐ups Field ball‐ups are contested by 2 players of equal size selected by the

umpire. Before the ball‐up, the umpire should clear the area by sending

players back to their positions. No more than 3 players, plus a ruckman from each team shall be closer

than approximately 20 metres to the ball‐up. No free kick will be awarded

for non‐compliance.

Umpires should ‘coach’ the players to clear the immediate area.

7. Smothering Deliberate smothering not permitted and free kick to nearest opponent. However, when smothering considered incidental (eg. ball kicked into the person on the mark), play will continue.

8. Barging No barging, fending off or chopping past opponents is permitted. A free kick shall be awarded to the nearest opponent.

9. Shepherding Not permitted. Free kick to the nearest opponent.

10. Marking A mark is awarded irrespective of the distance the ball has travelled to any player who catches the ball directly from the kick of another player.

11. Distance Run and Bouncing the Ball

A player running with the ball must bounce it within ten (10) metres. Only one (1) bounce is permitted. Players cannot dispose of the ball to themselves intentionally. A bounce is not permitted by the ball carrier once the umpire has acknowledged a hold and commenced the “3, 2, 1” countdown. A free kick of holding the ball to the nearest opponent.

12. Kicking off the Ground

Not permitted unless accidental.

13. Distance penalty 25 metres, as per normal SMJFL rules

As a reminder to all parents you must: 1. Respect the decisions of all officials. 2. Do not abuse or approach umpires or engage in discussion with them. (Speak to your Team Manager). 3. No Parent/Guardian is permitted to formally or informally approach any player or coach during

AJA

AJAX makes it

two from two. By Ash Shenker just before the main break The AJAX Football Club has continued it’s strong start to the 2013 season , recording a convincing 13.26.(104) to 7.12 (54) win over Werribee Districts at Gary Smorgon Oval on the weekend.

The side remains undefeated after two games and has shown huge improvement under new coach Leigh McQuillen, who admits there is still plenty of development needed to ensure a successful season ahead.

Lew kicked three in the first term and looked as though he was going to add to his tally, but was forced out of the game just before the main break after he suffered a corked thigh. He joined gun recruit Ezra Poyas on the sidelines, who also had his game cut early late in the second term with a hamstring injury. The Jackas were dominant in the first half, posting a six-to-zero first quarter, before keeping its opposition scoreless in the second.

Seniors Wrap – Round 2.

SEASON 2013 AJAX WEEKLY WRAP , ROUND 2

In veteran Luke Peters’s 150th

game, it was the Jackas’ key forwards who did the damage, with David Fayman, Richie Simon and Jake Lew slotting three goals each.

But AJAX could only manage two majors for the term through Jarryd Ludski and Nadav Harel, while missing several other opportunities on its way to 11 behinds.

The side held a 64-point advantage at half time.

With Lew and Poyas missing in the second half, the Jackas’ midfield rotations were clearly struggling and Werribee began to take control of the game.

With a strong wind favouring the visitors’ end, the home side conceded six goals to two for the quarter.

Simon and Sam Chester stemmed the flow midway through the term, before AJAX let through another two goals late as the deficit was reduced to less than six goals at three quarter time.

Coach McQuillen admitted that the side “probably underestimated the opposition”, before demanding his charges to “really shut them down, use the breeze and go long”.

And that’s exactly what the

Jackas did at the start of the final stanza, with Fayman marking and goaling to extend the hosts’ advantage.

But neither side could break away and the Jackas put the result beyond doubt when Jason Tendler and Fayman added another two majors in the dying stages of the game to ensure the 50-point win.

Facing Old Melburnians (OMs) next week, a team AJAX hasn’t beaten since 2007, McQuillen said the side needs to lift another notch in order to match the former A Grade side.

“We got the four points and we’re now two and zero, [but] now its time for a big game next week against OMs.”

AJAX Reserves won their first game of the season by

trouncing Werribee by 104 points, with a number of players pushing for senior selection.

Under 19’s The Under 19's came up against some tough opposition in the Northern Blues and were asked to show intensity on the footy in pressure, run and talk. Although there was a good feeling before the game, the boys got off to a slow start. The opposition was able to run and carry the footy up the ground and as a result of poor defensive pressure this resulted in AJAX being behind by 15 points at half time.

In the second half, the boys were able to fight back and increase their desperation for the footy. Unfortunately leaving this till the second half resulted in us not being able to claw

back the deficit, going down by 4 points.

A lot of lessons were learnt with

regards to the requirement needed to be successful this year.

AJAX Thirds were over-whelmed by Old Xavs by 139 points.

What the

Coaches Had to

Say Seniors

The Seniors came out and displayed a near perfect first term kicking against the breeze and setting us up in a commanding position at the first break. The forward line functioned the best it had to date and the midfiield was all over the top of their Werribee opponents. In the second kicking with the breeze it was a different story with many shots on goal squandered by a lack of TEAM orientated play and average decision making. We also lost Ezra Poyas to a slight hamstring strain. Finally kicking 2.11 to head into the main break. Werribee came out firing in the third term and placed our backs under immense pressure. Our backs stood up well although due to the Werribee midfield getting on top throughout the term the constant supply saw Werribee register five majors to our one. My message at the final break was to run the game out and look to kick long utilizing the breeze. We had been reduced to two players on the bench for most of the second half with Jake Lew coming off in the third (corkie) joining Ezra Poyas, making a forced

change to our structures.

To the players credit we ran the game out and won the last to register a 50pt win. We have a lot to work on and the players are very aware of this. To win under the circumstances was pleasing. This weekend we

hope to have the three forced changes from last week all available and the two players who were injured throughout this game also available. I look forward to the challenge Old Melburnians will present and hope to see a big AJAX crowd there to support us in our first away game of the year.

Go Jackas! Macca

Reserves

Before the game the boys body language and spirit looked like they really wanted to get a win. We set about getting our structures and roles right and work hard at our TEAM FIRST things . In the first quarter our accountability and run and carry was good with plenty of opportunity given to our midfield through our Rucks. The defense was tight and withstood any attack. The second quarter our intensity lifted and the ball delivery to our forwards gave us a handy lead. In the second half we kept on with our intensity and we worked hard for one another to run out comfortable winners. We learnt this week that playing to structure and doing the Team things is what brings us a WIN.

AJAX Player

Education Drug & Alcohol Education Evening - Gavin Crosisca My Story

As part of our the clubs player

education we are delighted to have 1990 Collingwood Premiership player Gavin Crosisca speak to the players on Tuesday May 9th at 8pm after training.

Gavin will discuss the issues he faced whilst he played AFL football.

We really appreciate Gavin taking the time to come to AJAX.

Thank you from Fitzroy

Hi Peter, Nick Brown came home from hospital yesterday - one broken rib in two places, collapsed lung which is now inflated to about 80%, thats being looked at again Thursday ( tomorrow ), will be out for about ten weeks, off uni/work for three, can start exercise in four. He is very grateful for care shown by all at the game, said ambos were terrific and The Alfred also where he was treated and admitted immediately. He is in good

spirits and is hoping to make it to our game on Saturday, as a spectator obviously !! Thanks again for your

wonderful hospitality at your place, and your enquiry after Nick’s welfare; I thought your thirds were terrific , given their relative lack of footy experience, and it was great to see the family support they had, great that AJAX is supporting this mostly orthodox side, even though I know it stretches ( yet again ! ) precious resources; good luck this weekend and see you

on the back nine !

Cheers
