ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC.
BY-LAW REVISIONS/CHANGES
September 6, 1980 Motion passed: A member-at-large will be responsible to the
geographically closest chapter for representation at State meetings.
October 16, 1982 Motion passed: All members must pay $15 membership as states in By-
laws and this includes renewals.
January 8, 1983 Motion passed: crating Life Membership in ABATE for $100 providing
that $50 of this to be turned into State and $50 retained by the local
chapter. State to create life Membership Card.
August 17, 1983 Motion passed: accept our updated Constitution and by-laws, in effect
immediately. Amended by-laws by stating the profit percentage to be
donated to the state treasury for ABATE functions be a minimum of 10%
to be paid at the following state meeting.
October 29, 1983 Motion passed: By-laws change: Article II, Sec. 4, 4c changed to #5. A
member of the corporation may be suspended by a 4/5 vote of the board
of directors. #5 changed to #6.
Nov. 10, 1984 Motion passed: Amend by-laws Article VI, #8 provide disbandment or
dissolve of chapters.
Aug. 17, 1985 Motion defeated: to amend Constitution Article II, membership dues to
increase to $20; $5 to state.
Jan. 10, 1986 Constitution and By-law revision turned into delegation.
Feb. 20, 1988 Motion passed: Article XI, The regular schedule meetings of ABATE shall
be held every second Sat. of every other month at 5pm. Feb., April, June,
Aug., Oct., and Dec. to begin Feb. 1989
Feb. 4, 1989 Motion passed: By-law change to raise the minimum from 10% to 20%
Aug. 19, 1989 Motion passed: to change board meeting from 3pm to Noon and general
mtg from 5pm to 2pm
Feb. 9, 1991 Motion failed: Delegates voting power according to chapter size. 0-200
members gets 2 votes, 201-300 gets 3 votes, 301-400 gets 4 votes, etc.
Nov 2, 1991 Motion passed: Constitution change, Article 10, that an officer can be
removed by the BOD or by a 2/3 vote of the delegation for a good reason.
Dec. 14, 1991 motion passed: that no 2 people in the same household can sign on the
same check on a state or chapter level.
Motion passed: By law change when a chapters financial reports are not
turned in on time (10th of the month) that they be notified by the State
Treasurer that they lose 1 vote being 1 month late at the next State mtg
or if 2 months late you lose both votes and the next state mtg.
Motion dies: Amendment to the by-laws to give life membership after 10
consecutive years to start 1/1/92.
Feb. 8, 1992 Motion passed: By-law change Article 7, Section 1 Insert the word State
into the first line of Article 7, first paragraph of the by-laws.
June 10, 1995 motion passed: To suspend by-laws have State meeting on a Sunday in
Tallahassee.
December 9, 2000 Motion withdrawn: Duval chapter to propose a change in Article IV
Sections E and E-1. (changes in membership fees)
August 10, 2002 Motion Failed: Life member issued to members after 20 yrs of
consecutive annual membership.
Motion passed: If a report is determined to be late by the State
Treasurer, notwithstanding that no tax is shown to be due thereon, a
penalty in the amount of $50 for each month or portion thereof, not to
exceed $300 in the aggregate.
Feb. 14, 2004 Motion withdrawn: Article XII and Article V (obtaining liability insurance on all events when admission fee charged, food/beverage served. Alcohol permits provisions and no alcohol permits at charity events.)

Feb 11 2006 Motion to amend passed: Article XII-Misc provision; No chapter shall
host, sponsor or financially contribute to any event or function that does not maintain 100% of its income to benefit ABATEOF FLORIDA, INC. for a period of 1 calendar year from the time it receives its charter.
Aug 12, 2006 Motion withdrawn: proposed By-law Article XII- Misc. Provisions: State
and all chapter events to impose a 10 pm curfew minors under age 18. August 11, 2007 By-law change proposal denied: to amend Article IX, section L, item 1.
Change the word “mailing” to “furnish”. Decided by discussion, not required at this time. It is already acceptable practice to deliver the newsletter by electronic means as long as a hardcopy is available by request.
April 13, 2008 Motion fails: proposed by-law change regarding background checks of
prospective members.
Dec. 13, 2008 Motion carried-By-law proposal regarding Safety Director (Black Creek proposed). Goes into effect at next election. (No details)
April 12, 2009 Motion Fails: Life membership dues increase to $350

wanted to withdraw but Estero calls for a vote, to avoid coming back to the table.

MOTIONS – MISC.
Jan 12, 1980 Motion to form a state ABATE organization, it was voted to base our
structure on a revision of the Nebraska By-Laws and charge $20 for a new
chapter to join and $5 of each members dues or renewal going to the
State Organization. – passed
Novenber 29, 1980 Motion to formally support the Motorcycle Foundation efforts. Members
are encouraged to attend MSF Instructor Course. – passed
May 16, 1981 Motion that we are now a corporate entity with a State wide not-for
profit charter and all chapters are to comply with its articles in their
entirety. Also, chapters and State will purchase a copy of “Roberts Rules
of Order” to run their meetings.
September 19, 1981 By-laws were accepted as they stand.
December 21, 1981 Motion that campground rules were expanded by stating that any other
“organization” can stay as long as they abide by the rules. They are to
police themselves and to assist with security. The campgrounds will be a
neutral area – passed
Motion to endorse Florida’s Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Week in
May – passed
Feb. 23, 1980 Motion to change the name ABATE to A Brotherhood Aiming Toward
Education – failed.
February 6, 1982 Motion that the name ABATE shall not be used on any event that
excludes any person for any reason other than the immediate behavior
problems, to take effect 2-23-82: no ABATE printed materials shall
contain “No Colors” from now on. – passed
Motion ABATE will stand for A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian

March 20, 1982 Voted that ABATE would coordinate the activities for the Motorcycle

July 24, 1982 Voted that the State ABATE membership cards be orange and black and
the same size as a drivers license. – passed

September 24, 1982 motion to assess any chapter .36 cents per newsletter returned in the
mail to their chapter not fulfilling their responsibility of updating

October 16, 1982 motion for ABATE to obtain property in the Orlando area – failed
Voted on that $10 renewals were not allowed, and individual chapters
cannot set dues at their own discretion, event “Family” plans are not
allowable, all must follow by-laws. Transfers from one chapter to
another have to ask for a written request – passed
January 8, 1983 Motion to make ABATE of Florida Patched available only through the
State Treasurer to local chapters. Patches priced at $1 over the cost to
the State to build the treasury.- passed
March 26, 1983 Motion supporting the need to strengthen ABATE on a state level. All
profits or losses in an ABATE sponsored event (Tally) should be through
the state treasury. In state wide efforts where all work together no one
by rights shall make a profit, or take a loss. After Tallahassee, the state
treasury will pay for any losses. The state can accept donations to the
treasury. – passed
June 18, 1983 Motion to allow a percentage of all profits of any events sponsored by
any chapter of ABATE to go the state treasury. – passed

periods between the letters in ABATE in all printed materials, and to add
a 5th trustee to the BOD to be elected. – passed

April 28, 1985 Motion for ABATE to put up a $1000.00 reward to be paid for the arrest
and conviction of anyone stealing a members bike. – passed
And motion to accept the largest attending chapter awards guideline. –

Nov. 9, 1985 Motions: Treasurer to be bonded against theft and misappropriate of
funds. Books of the Corporation to be audited yearly, by a CPA firm.
And, to add a personal classified column to the Masterlink with prices
and guidelines to be developed – all passed.

March 21, 1987 Motion no jap bike bashes at ABATE functions. – passed
Aug. 22, 1987 motions: that only state reps. Sit up front at state mtgs and others to sit
in back to avoid confusion and keep noise down. Sgt – at – Arms be
allowed and made to enforce a rule that if a state rep. is talking or
disrupting mtg while another board member or rep. has the floor, the
rep. will be told one time to control themselves. The second time, at the
same mtg, they will be asked to leave. – both passed
Motion that is a rep. is thrown out of two state mtgs, he or she will not
be allowed back for 1 year and the chapter rep. will be told to send a new
rep. who can be a rep. that is considerate. – defeated
Oct. 3, 1987 Motion that no chapter may host more than 1 state mtg or event in 1
years time unless there are no other chapters who can or want to host
such events. Motion that any expenditure of funds of excess $1500 with
the exception of normal operating costs be sent back to the chapters for
vote by the entire membership. And motion that ABATE present jay Leno
a life membership along with a bike week t-shirt, pin, and patch – all

Dec. 12, 1987 Motion that no 2 major ABATE events be held within 100 miles of each
other. ABATE to hold an annual calendar planning/sanction mtg at the
first state mtg after the BOD elections each year for the upcoming
calendar year. State Treasurer will supply each chapter on a yearly basis
with a copy of the fiscal year end statements of ABATE. These
statements should be copies of the original as prepared by an

account. And that their yearly dues be raised to $25 with $15 going to
State and #10 remain in the chapter. Life membership be raised to $150

Oct. 7, 1989 Term of office for the BOD be 2 years. – failed
Dec. 9, 1989 No one let into the campground as a visitor without paying a fee. State
to obtain certificates and present to people who have done outstanding

February 13, 2010 Motion carries: to move the October State Mtg. (is also, Spooks –n-
Scoots event) from the second wknd to the first wknd. Can’t be a
permanent change due to By-Laws, will have to be voted on each year.
ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC.
PROCEDURES NOTED FROM MINUTES
November 10, 1979 the first available set of minutes for ABATE of FLORIDA, Inc.
July 26, 1980 Records established that a new chapter has a minimum of 10 members to
start.
May 16, 1981 Formal charter presented to delegates that was filed with the Secretary
of State in Tallahassee on May 6, 1981. It was established that from now
on all printed materials will read ABATE of Florida, Inc. and for chapters
ABATE of Florida, Inc. (chapters name after).
October 31, 1981 Establishment of campground rules to be posted and followed without
exception: No fighting, No Drag Racing, No Guns-anyone displaying fire-
arms of any sort will be asked to leave.
January 9, 1982 Interpretation of ABATE is up to each chapter to define as they see fit
until further notice.
February 6, 1982 No alcohol during any meetings effective March 1982.
January 8, 1983 Chapters cannot commit the corporation ABATE as a whole, but only
their local membership, with their consent, to being responsible for
special events and activities. Major events and activities should center
around our basic goals and cause. Tallahassee and Legislative policy.
When contacted to sponsor or co-sponsor or assist in special events open
to the general public, it should be brought before the whole delegation to
decide.
April 14, 1984 ABATE of Florida is not an acronym and has no periods after each letter.
When a chapter wants to print something with the ABATE name, they
must bring it before the delegation to get support & approval.
Letterhead must read ABATE of Florida, Inc. than chapter name after.
Each chapter is to submit two names and phone numbers for 24 hour
emergency service within state.
August 1984 new tax number from the IRS, any use of the tax number by individual
chapters is to go to the board treasurer first.
Financial reports from chapters to state will be done twice a year (due in
Jan-covering July to Dec and in July covering the whole fiscal year of July
1 – june 30.
November 10, 1984 State newsletter will be known as the Masterlink.
Dec. 15, 1984 Chapters to get monthly membership lists.
Nov. 22, 1986 Chapter prices for their flyers are ½ the cost of regular advertising and
flyers will be run when received with money and legible flyer.
Children will have to be supervised by parent or guardian at all times. All
flyers should contain a line above that they be under adult supervision at
all times.
Feb. 20, 1988 If there is no newsletter, a copy of the meeting minutes should still be
sent into the State to let the BOD know the chapter still exists.
April 21, 1990 By-law committee was formed to rewrite our by-laws to enable us to
become tax exempt. In order to become tax exempt we have to be
education oriented. If we do become tax exempt we can’t pay a lobbyist.
Do we want to stay as we are or become motorcycle safety oriented?
We will stay as we are, pay our 6% sales tax.
June 9, 1990 New Life cards - $5.
Flyers should have no bad publicity on them, such as beer or alcohol
beverages, tit shows, etc.
Oct. 12, 1990 State Sgt-at-Arms to decide if women can do security at events.
Feb. 9, 1991 Chapters should try to get May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness
Month on local level.
Feb. 8, 1992 Chapter funds belong to ABATE and is needed to help pay our lobbyist
and our taxes. ABATE does not run any flyers that discriminate.
Jan 7, 1995 Suggestion: SOP’s Manual (Standard operation Procedure) instead of
everything going into the by-laws.
Feb. 10, 1996 MSAP copyrighted.
Dec. 14, 1996 Tax exempt; 501C4.
Feb. 8, 1997 In July when we have the Presidents mtg, will also have seminars for
officers and trustees.
April 13, 1997 By-law motions must be into state office 10 days prior to the state mtg so
they can be researched.
June 10, 2000 As soon as chapter elections are over, send updated info to the State
Office.
Security equipment needed must be ordered from State Sgt-at-Arms 30
days in advance.
Membership reports will go through the Chapter President to check for
errors and legible writing prior to going to the State Membership Trustee.
The Chapter President must initial the report.
August 12, 2000 ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC., or anyone representing ABATE, could not
endorse a candidate. Members can support one but only the Lobbyist
(the independent contracting) for ABATE could endorse a candidate.
The Certificates of Excellence have been done away with. The only
awards to be given out from here on will be the Membership Awards and
the Presidents Awards. The Presidents Awards will be given to only those
that have been with ABATE for years and have worked continuously for
ABATE.
The State Safety Director title has been changed to Director of Safety
Education.
Web site guidelines were motioned on and voted on. Motion carries.
December 9, 2000 Chapter toy runs will not use the name “Toys for Tots” unless they were
using the name prior to (sometime in the 1980’s) when the United States
Marine Corps copyrighting the name.
February 10, 2001 Chapters must get prior approval from State President to open a charge
account.
All flyers, newsletters, and web pages must bear our disclaimer.
Chapters that have savings accounts or CD’s must report the balances to
the State Treasurer so that can be declared as income. All income is to
be reported.
Accident reports (at events) must give a copy to Treasurer and Sgt-at-
Arms.
Chapters hosting State Meetings must provide a map (location of
meeting) and submit at the State Meeting prior.
June 9, 2001 Treasurers Report must include receipts, if the receipts are not sent in
with reports the expenditure will not be deductible and not acceptable
sent in the following month. Chapters changing officers must update
their bank info.
October 13, 2001 Community service hours needed by individuals can be served at ABATE
events, however the State President must sign (approve) the appropriate
paperwork in advance.
To deduct a donation to a charity, a receipt from that charity must be
submitted with the treasurer’s report.
Contracts cannot be entered into at a chapter level without the approval
of the State President.
Associate memberships are not to be issued by chapters.
For a chapter to run a “Special” on memberships, it must be approved by
the State BOD.
Chapter Inventory reports are due by the December General Meeting to
the State Sgt-at-Arms.
February 10, 2002 Chapter Legislative hot-lines will be accepted as a deduction, but other
phone lines will not be accepted as a deduction.
ABATE domain has been secured for the next 10 years.
April 13, 2002 Chapters to send copies of their chapter by-laws to the State Secretary to
be reviewed approved and kept on file in State office.
June 8, 2002 Chapters cannot endorse or financially support a candidate.
A Risk Management Team has been developed in conjunction with
incidents and accidents that take place around the state. The team will
be trained to respond to those incidents and must be contacted in the
event there is a problem. SGA’s should still take names and contact info
of any witnesses present at the time of the incident.
August 10, 2002 Leadership Seminars will continue on a yearly basis.
Chapters whom choose to add officers to their board must answer to the
chapter BOD and the President of the chapter. The chapters are to be
operating under the State by-laws, and no chapter by-law can super cede
the State by-law.
Chapters are not to discriminate against any group.
“Electronic Banking” is not allowed, due to security reasons.
Chapter information in the newsletter needs to be kept updated; all
changes must go through the State office.
October 12, 2002 Chapters must be self sufficient and donate what they can to support the
candidates and the motorcycle rights movement of ABATE. ABATE is not
a charity fund raising organization.
Annual memberships from other MRO’s are transferrable. Life
Memberships from other MRO’s are not transferrable.
December 14, 2002 State products need to be purchased through the State organization and
sold at a reasonable price. Chapter products should have a minimal, fair
price when they are sold.
Chapters must make sure that buildings reserved for a State Meeting that
time constraints allow for the meeting to run its course. At least until 8
pm.
February 8, 2003 Web site links must be motorcycle related and must be approved by the
State BOD.
April 13, 2003 Chapters are allowed 3 beer permits per year. The request for those
permits must be processed through the State President and should be
sent early to allow for adequate turnaround time. A request for
insurance should accompany each request for a beer permit.
June 14, 2003 No chapters are to hold bike drawings due to the IRS regulations and
possible compromise of status.
Deadline for submissions for the MasterLink, including flyers for runs and
events, is the State Meeting prior to the printing of each issue.
August 9, 2003 Chapter safety tapes need to be on your inventory and reported to the
State SGT-at-Arms.
October 11, 2003 A new article will be drafted to restrict the wearing of three-piece
patches by ABATE members. This requested by motorcycle clubs around
the State of FL. Nor will currently worn three-piece patches be
grandfathered in.
Other motorcycle club members will serve on a chapter or State
executive board, due to possible conflicts of interest.
Members who are not delegates from a specified chapter may not
represent other than their home chapter without permission from the
said chapter.
Monitor our advertising; the word beverage should be used to describe
all drinks.
December 13, 2003 Chapter expenses must be paid for with a chapter check to insure
documentation.
Year pins are valid for the number of years a member has been part of
the corporation regardless of which chapter is recognized as the “Home
Chapter”.
Incident and Accident reports need to be filled completely, including
contact info, at the time of the incident.
Waiver and Run sign-in sheets need to be filled in with full legal names,
not nick names.
Do not use the word “cash” when referring to 50/50’s and do not use the
word “raffle” in your flyers or publications. The word “drawing” is
acceptable.
February 14, 2004 every member is to receive a newsletter and the Masterlink will continue
to be mailed to every member. Talk of putting MasterLink on web site.
On issues that are put before the delegation and the chapter
membership for a vote, members of multiple chapters are to only vote in
their home chapter. Each person should only have one vote.
October 9, 2004 Chapters need to submit insurance requests at least 30 days prior to the
event and 90 days if an alcohol permit is required.
December 11, 2004 All books, checkbook, bills, etc. of the State will be kept at the State office
and no longer at anyone’s home.
Chapters may move their accounts to any bank of their choice. If
requested, the State will provide a letter to the bank to get signature
cards. State president will provide.
ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC. must appear before your chapter name on all
flyers.
February 12, 2005 It is not mandatory for chapters to have their officers bonded, (except
the Treasurer) but it is recommended for chapters with a large enough
bank account.
Chapter newsletters are to be sent to each member of the State BOD as
well as the other chapters.
April 10, 2005 There will be no closed meetings in ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC. All BOD,
committee, general meetings, “ANY MEETINGS” will be open to any
member.
June 11, 2005 No nudity or profanity in chapter newsletters.
Must contact State SGT-at-ARMS within 24 hours of any incident or
accident.
Chapter SGT-at-Arms must not drink during his events, no drinking while
on duty by security personnel.
August 13, 2005 there are no chapter territories. A member belongs to the corporation
and can live in an area that is somewhere else in the state.
If your chapter has a credit with membership, they need to use it. Any
lingering credits will be considered a donation to the State.
Flyers must have a start and stop time, the correct area code, tax
declaimer and the statement: ABATE does not condone drinking and
driving.
Websites and Newletters need to be on board legislatively. Each chapter
needs a phonetree.
October 8, 2005 Treasurer Reports are to be sent in separate envelope from membership
reports, insurance request, bike tic sales, etc. Nothing else with these
reports.
Run flyers for the Masterlink must be submitted to each State BOD at the
State Meeting.
New accident/incident forms have a place for a signature of person who
refuses medical attention. They must be signed, if they refuse then have
witnesses to attest that medical aid was offered and they refused.
Chapter PR contacts must be given to the State PR/Communications
Trustee. All interviews concerning the state events or state legislative
issues need to come from the State PR. Local issues can be handled on
the local level.
When a safety presentation is performed; in a classroom, to an
organization, running a booth, etc. fill out the presentation report and
send to State Safety Director.
E-mail trees (such as a phone tree) need to be implemented by chapters.
February 11, 2006 Chapters will follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) that was
completed and handed out today.
Replacement Life cards do not go to the Membership Trustee, they go to
the Products Trustee.
April 9, 2006 Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance- with American Income
life Insurance Co. policy contract signed by the State for members. Each
member in good standing would be entitled to $2000 of life insurance
reimbursement.
No Chapter will make votes that are not in keeping with our State By-
laws.
June 10, 2006 in reference to the Accidental Death and Dismemberment Ins.: members
are to fill out beneficiary form and send in. If an individual should have
the need to collect on the insurance, and does not want to be contacted
by the Insurance Company, they should contact the State office to begin
the paperwork for the benefit.
On event flyers: ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC. needs to be spelled out, no
abbreviations.
August 12, 2006 Tattooists at chapter/State events: ensure all chapters that tattooist are
adequately insured.
Refrain from advertising “Adult Games” on event flyers. “Games or Bike
Games” is alright.
When members are in public wearing ABATE attire they are to conduct
themselves responsibly.
Utility bills for private property used in conjunction with an event are not
deductible expenses.
All membership applications shall have “New or Renewal” on them.
A Life member who is deceased is not deleted from the membership
(NFA). Deceased life members stay on the rolls of the corporation for the
life of the corporation. Yearly members are listed as “deceased NFA”.
Delegates at State meetings are responsible to take back correct
information, including what ABATE’s agenda is; such as legislative issues.
Chapter minute meetings should include information on how your
chapter is participating in the agenda. Meeting minutes should be written
in a way that anyone not in attendance at the meeting will be informed.
Make your chapter visible during election times, contact local reps
running for office to attend meetings. Contact local reps offices and let
them know what our agenda is and where we stand on certain issues.
October 14, 2006 Chapter financial details are NOT to be printed in the chapter meeting
minutes.
Chapters are not to distribute their mailing list to anyone.
Chapter SGT-at-Arms are responsible for the chapter inventory which are
mailed directly to the State SGT-at-Arms, address listed in the Masterlink.
The inventory form can be obtained in an electronic (Excel) format by
contacting the State Secretary. Modifications to the form are NOT
permitted. If more space is needed, add rows to the page. Follow the
directions on the instruction page of the form.
Chapters hosting State meetings are responsible for the set-up of the
meeting facility.
Requests for safety products must be made by the chapter Safety
Director or the chapter President. Chapters should include the words
“Promotional Items Request” in the subject line of any e-mail. If chapters
request to pick-up items at State meetings, they should come prepared
to take them back with them.
The Lobbyist’s job is to promote bills in the capital. Information
coordination and research should be done through the Legislative
Trustee for ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC. who will coordinate with the
Lobbyist.
December 9, 2006 Transfer forms (membership) need to be filled out and sent to the State
office w/the membership report when someone is transferring from one
chapter to another. Member transferring needs to sing the form.
Regarding Safety products, all e-mails should identify the chapter in
subject line: for example Subject: Lake ABATE-Safety products request.
February 10, 2007 if chapter secret bank accounts are found, the State will notify IRS and
then take action.
There will be no video-taping of State meetings, Board or Delegates.
There will be no private accounts for charities. Chapters cannot
circumvent our organization for insurance on events.
Minutes not posted in chapter newsletters need to be sent to the State
office.
The limits to the ABATE members life insurance are to be raised from
$2,000 to $4,000.
April 15, 2007 Life Insurance on ABATE members has been renewed with survivors
benefits increased to the $4000.00.
Chapter treasurer reports need to include bank statements, canceled
checks and a listing of CD’s that are currently being held by each chapter.
Newsletters must contain the SGT-at-Arms name and phone number
directly following the chapter executive board.
Membership reports: the balance column will be removed from
upcoming reports and balances will not be carried forward. The credits
must be used for membership payments only. They cannot be used for
products or insurance payments.
June 9, 2007 Accident/Incident reports must contain pictures; keep a disposable
camera in chapters support package.
October 13, 2007 Chapter meeting location changes, even temporary, must be reported to
the State office. Notification in the minutes is unacceptable.
Any award, anytime over $600 must be accompanied by a 1099-misc
form (IRS).
Due to gambling laws in Florida, poker run fees must be considered a
donation, and if anyone asks for a free hand, they must be given.
Chapters are not to use debit cards, all debit cards must be destroyed.
Bike tickets (State drawing each bike week) must be turned in with the
money together.
February 9, 2008 Membership applications must have voter’s district information. If
applicant/voter does not provide the chapter trustee must look it up.
Membership applications must add on applications “all applications
subject to approval.”
April 13, 2008 When speaking, writing, e-mailing to legislative representatives,
members must be professional, non-threatening.
August 9, 2008 State has purchased the first disposable cameras to be used with incident
reports and will replace them if used. If chapter loses them, they have to
replace.
October 11, 2008 Road Captain will not be a new position but will be under SGT-at-Arms.
Annual Membership; no matter what day a member joins the expiration
is the last day of the month, one year later.
April 12, 2009 Chapters cancelling events and rolling over their insurance for the new
date; State Secretary needs to be notified by e-mail, with time and date
requesting cancellation or fees. A 24 hour notice is necessary to cancel or
rollover the event.
June 13, 2009 Membership reports and a copy of the check to be mailed directly to
State Membership Trustee. The check for the membership report is
mailed to the State Treasurer with notation of membership wrote on it.
Checks to treasurer must have what it is for, do not staple checks.
August 8, 2009 Chapters hosting State meetings can sell their products at these meetings
and only the chapter hosting.
By-Law Committee created to update old by-laws and consider new ones;
chapters will submit to them.
October 10, 2009 No reproductions of ABATE products without State permission.
December 12, 2009 Websites cannot have a link to any site that has images not viewable for
all ages, per our corporation status. All pages must have “Donations to
ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC. are not deductible for Federal Income Tax
Purposes” and “ABATE OF FLORIDA, INC. does not condone drinking and
driving” – These must be quoted EXACTLY.
All chapters need to join their local Community Traffic Safety Team.
February 13, 2010 Dates must be on the minutes in chapter newsletters. Insurance forms
have changed; chapters now have 10 days to send print & waivers.
Everyone must sign in on any ABATE event on these waivers, no
exceptions.
April 18th, 2010 Accidental death benefits: Have next of kin contact the ABATE state
office, do not contact the insurance company directly.
Any Press Releases must be given to the State Pr/Communications for
approval prior to sending out to media. If you are doing it as an
individual NOT signing for ABATE, go ahead at your discretion.
When a chapter changes a webmaster, State PR/Communications needs
to speak to the chapter President and the new webmaster, SOP needs to
be signed.
June 12, 2010 Do not pay or submit cash for anything. Write a check for everything
even poker hand winnings. You can cash that check for the winner, have
the winner endorse the check, give him the cash for it, deposit the
endorsed check back in your chapter account. This leaves a paper trail
that we need.
Newsletters: Don’t publish any negativity about other ABATE members
on your websites or newsletters. Handle your chapter’s issues within
ABATE.
August 14, 2010 Encouraged chapters to use the free abateflorida.com e-mail forwarding
accounts. These e-mail forwarders will follow the positions in each
chapter, not the individuals. Updated web site SOP: specific restrictions
regarding facebook – type accounts. Chapters CANNOT have blogs or
forums available for public posting in their chapter’s name.
RE: trials of those who violate our right of way: When you go to these
trials, do not say anything in these trials. You will be held in contempt of
court.
October 2nd, 2010 Contract signed for the new life insurance/accidental death benefits,
$4000.00 for members, in effect now. All members will receive a mailing,
remind chapter members that they do not have to send the card in to get
insurance, the only criteria is that members must be a member in good
standing. Cards do not come from the insurance company, mail list is not
given out to anyone.
In the July 2010 Deland Seminars a fundraiser committee was established
with State VP head chair, efforts need to be stepped up in this regard.
Chapter newsletters cannot advertise insurance companies, travel
agencies, or credit card companies if they are mailed under a bulk rate
permit. (reminder)
Do not publish actual bike tickets in chapter newsletters unless sample is
printed across them.
No longer will there be regional safety directors, each chapter will be
responsible for their safety instructors.
