FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
April 29, 2016
May is Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month in Indiana
It is May and Spring is officially here. Of course May also brings Motorcycle Safety and Aware-ness Month. This is proclaimed by Indiana Governor Mike Pence and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
As with every year, this is an opportunity to make certain we are doing all that we can to be safe and responsible riders, but even more importantly, to create awareness so that others who share the roadways with us are looking out for motorcycles.
Rally on the Circle, Thursday, May 5th
To draw further attention to motorcycle awareness, ABATE of Indiana will be hosting an event in conjunction with the Indiana War Memorial, the Marion County Traffic Safety Partnership, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, Tucker Rocky - LDI, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The kickoff event for Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month will take place on Monument Circle from 11:00 to 1:00 on Thursday, May 5, 2016. All motorcyclists are welcome to join in and park their bike on “The Circle” with police motors from various agencies and some special attractions.
We encourage all motorcyclists to ride responsibly and respectfully. Ride free of impairment and make certain they are properly licensed to operate a motorcycle. We recommend that all riders take a formal rider education course, as studies have indicated that 90% of crash involved riders are self taught.
