Local Food & DrinkAbersoch and the wider Llŷn area offers a great range
of places to eat from cosy cafés offering light bites, sandwiches and afternoon teas to traditional pubs
serving all the classics, to award winning restaurants, as well as a great variety of bistros and bars.
Want some food for thought?Restaurants & Cafés - you’ll find Thai, Mexican, Tapas,
Indian, British and Italian all in the centre of Abersoch, you’ll also be spoilt for choice at lunchtime with
several cafés along the High Street. A little further out there are some excellent ‘restaurants with rooms’, as well as a couple of seafood restaurants which really make the most of some of our best local produce. In Pwllheli there’s also a wide choice including Indian, Chinese, Tapas and Italian as well as several small
bistros and cafés.
Pubs - there are plenty of great village pubs just waiting to be explored, most offer food daily:
sandwiches, steaks, burgers, pizza, salads and the usual pub favourites!
Fish ‘n’ chips - for many a seaside holiday is incomplete without a visit to that classic British institution ‘the chippy’; find them in Abersoch,
Aberdaron, Pwllheli, Criccieth, Porthmadog and Nefyn.
Beachfront - a number of our larger beaches have cafés/pubs right on the beach, including
Abersoch, Llanbedrog, Porthor (Whistling Sands) and Porthdinllaen.
Fancy a cheeky drink? - If you want real ales you’ll find those in most of the local pubs, Welsh spirits
and Whisky from the Penderyn distillery are widely available throughout Abersoch, as is Tŷ Gwyn, an excellent Welsh cider, and Cwrw Llŷn, a local beer
brewed in Nefyn, is now found all over the Llŷn. If you fancy something a little more potent Abersoch and
Pwllheli both have cocktail bars too!

12 // Abersoch Guide 2015
e have simply miles of beaches here on the Llŷn; from Abersoch’s
famous Main Beach with its higgledy-piggledy row of huts along the dunes, to the windswept surfer’s dream of Hell’s Mouth and the beautiful, wild expanse of Aberdaron overlooking the holy island of Bardsey. We are truly spoilt for choice so whatever you’re looking for, there’s sure to be a beach to suit you not too far away. Here’s a run-down of some of our favourite local beaches . . .
Easy access beaches - Aberdaron, Abersoch (from the golf road slipway), Llanbedrog
Best for families - Llanbedrog, Abersoch Main beach, Abersoch Warren beach, Porthor (Whistling Sands), Porthdinllaen; these beaches are fairly sheltered with shallow waters and good facilities.
Surf beaches - Porth Neigwl (or ‘Hell’s Mouth’) is the go to beach for surfers on the Llŷn, although both Porth Ceiriad and Porthor (or ‘Whistling Sands’) are good options for surfing and body-boarding.
‘Hidden’ beaches - Porth Ceiriad is a large, sandy beach which is easily accessed from the water but requires a short walk from the clifftop car park and down steep steps to reach on foot. There are no facilities at this beach and it is considerably quieter than most in the area. One of Llŷn’s smallest beaches is Porth Bach, or ‘Sixpenny Bay’, an idyllic secluded cove just below Bwlchtocyn headland which is only accessible to the public via boat.
Dog friendly beaches - most of the beaches in the area are very welcoming of our four-legged friends (and there are plenty of doggy litter bins around too) however some of the busiest beaches operate dog free zones from 1st April to 30th September. Good beaches for dogs include Llanbedrog, Porth Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth), Porth Ceiriad and Morfa Nefyn, (for a list of dog exclusion zones visit www.gwynedd.gov.uk and search ‘dog control’).
Much of this little corner of Wales is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and we want to keep it that way! So please be considerate when you’re visiting any of our lovely beaches, be careful not to drop anything in the water, take all your rubbish and recycling home with you and if you have a dog, please, please ‘scoop that poop’! Areas such as ours only remain unspoilt if we take care not to spoil them so, as the saying goes, take only memories and leave only footprints.

Mae gennym filltiroedd o draethau yma yn Llŷn; o’r enwog Borth Fawr yn Abersoch gyda’i resi blith-draphlith
o gytiau ar hyd y twyni, i baradwys gwyntog syrffwyr ym Mhorth Neigwl ac ehangder gwyllt, prydferth Aberdaron sy’n
edrych dros ynys sanctaidd Enlli. Mae yma gymaint o ddewis felly, am beth bynnag yr ydych yn chwilio, mae’n sicr bod yna
draeth sy’n addas i chi heb fod yn rhy bell i ffwrdd. Dyma restr fer o rai o’n hoff draethau lleol . . .
Traethau â mynediad hawdd – Aberdaron, Abersoch (o lithrfa Lôn
Golff), Llanbedrog.
Y gorau i deuluoedd – Llanbedrog, Borth Fawr, Traeth Castellmarch (Warren, Porthor, Porthdinllaen); mae’r rhain yn draethau gweddol
gysgodol gyda dŵr bas a chyfleusterau da.
Traethau syrff io – Porth Neigwl yw’r prif draeth i syrffwyr Llŷn, er bod Porth Ceiriad a Phorthor yn ddewisiadau da ar gyfer syrffio a chorff-fyrddio.
Traethau ‘cudd’ – mae Porth Ceiriad yn draeth mawr tywodlyd gyda mynediad hawdd o’r môr ond, mae angen cerdded ychydig o’r maes parcio ar ben y clogwyn
a lawr grisiau serth i’w gyrraedd ar droed. Nid oes unrhyw gyfleusterau ar y traeth hwn ac mae gryn dipyn tawelach na’r rhan fwyaf yn yr ardal. Un o draethau lleiaf Llŷn
yw Porth Bach, sef bae bychan diarffordd a pharadwysaidd dan benrhyn Bwlchtocyn; dim ond â chwch y gall y cyhoedd ei gyrraedd.
Traethau cyfeillgar i gwn – mae’r rhan fwyaf o’r traethau yn yr ardal yn groesawgar iawn i’n cyfeillion pedair coes (ac mae yna ddigon o finiau baw cŵn o gwmpas hefyd). Fodd bynnag,
mae rhai o’r traethau prysuraf yn gweithredu parthau gwahardd cŵn o Ebrill 1af tan Fedi 30ain. Mae traethau Llanbedrog, Porth Neigwl, Porth Ceiriad a Morfa Nefyn yn rhai da i gŵn
(ceir rhestr o barthau gwahardd cŵn dan ‘Rheoli Cŵn’ ar y wefan www.gwynedd.gov.uk).
Dynodwyd llawer o’r gornel fach hon o Gymru yn Ardal o Harddwch Naturiol Eithriadol ac rydym eisiau ei chadw felly! Os gwelwch yn dda, byddwch yn feddylgar wrth ymweld ag unrhyw un o’n
traethau hyfryd, gofalwch beidio â gollwng unrhyw beth i’r dŵr, ewch â’ch holl ysbwriel a deunyddiau ailgylchu gartref gyda chi ac, os oes gennych chi gi, os gwelwch yn dda, codwch ei faw! Deil ardaloedd
fel un ni heb eu difetha, wrth i ni ofalu amdanynt, felly, yn ôl y dywediad, “ewch â’ch atgofion yn unig ac ond gadael eich olion traed”.

You can be as active as you choose to be on a Llŷn holiday as there is a seemingly endless list
of things to do in the local area.
Want to get wet?If you want to get out on the water then you couldn’t be in a better place as you’re never far from the sea here on the Llŷn. Surfing,
sailing*, bodyboarding, wakeboarding, water skiing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, powerboating
and windsurfing are all popular and there are a number of schools who offer instruction in many of these activities as well as offer
equipment hire. During the summer months the sea is warm enough for swimming and it is
safe to swim off many of our beaches.Naturally fishing is also popular, you can book a spot on a fishing trip or if you have your own
boat simply drop a line - at the right time of year it’s almost impossible not to catch mackerel!
More of a land lover? If the water isn’t for you then don’t worry,
there’s still plenty to get stuck in to. Choose from shooting, cycling, walking*, horse
riding, golf*, go-carting, Segway, quadbiking, hovercrafting, paintballing, or an adventure
day such as the Bear Grylls survival course in Llanystumdwy.
For the little onesMost children like nothing more than a day at the beach, paddling, rock-pooling and building sandcastles, but if they fancy a change try the Rabbit Farm, pottery painting, ten-pin bowling,
or a little further afield the Welsh Mountain Zoo, Anglesey Sea Zoo, Greenwood Forest Park,
Slate Caverns or Electric Mountain.

Ar wyliau yn Llŷn gallwch fod mor egnïol ag yr hoffech fod gyda rhestr

Eisiau gwlychu?Os ydych eisiau mynd ar y dŵr, rydych yn y lle gorau gan nad ydych byth yn

hwylfyrddio yn boblogaidd ac mae amryw o ysgolion yn cynnig gwersi mewn llawer o’r gweithgareddau yma, yn ogystal â llogi

he Llŷn peninsula, once a collection of small fishing and farming villages, has a long
maritime history; many families were generations of fishermen or sea captains and the area was also a centre for boatbuilding. The Llŷn Maritime Museum in Nefyn is a great place to explore this history with videos, artefacts and interactive displays offering a glimpse into the area’s rich heritage. Also part of an ancient pilgrim route, the peninsula boasts many beautiful, historic churches including Edern, Llanbedrog, Llanengan, Llangian and St Hywyn’s in Aberdaron, last stop on the pilgrim trail before the once treacherous boat trip across the Sound to Ynys Enlli, the holy island of Bardsey. Today you can take your own pilgrimage with a walk along the Wales Coast Path or a boat trip to the enchanting island. The National Trust look after long stretches of the coastline as well as inshore heathland areas. They are keen to educate and in Aberdaron you’ll find the Trust’s ‘Porth y Swnt’ visitor centre. The centre offers an insight into the history and culture of the Llŷn, starting with two lines of poetry from one of the area’s most famous residents (and one time vicar of St. Hywyn’s), Welsh poet RS Thomas. The trust also own the charming manor house of Plas yn Rhiw as well as the old fishing village of Porthdinllaen, where there is a great little ‘cabin’ with a wealth of information on the village’s history as well as current conservation projects. If you want to explore the culture of the area further try a visit to Nant Gwrtheyrn, a remote former quarrying village on the North coast of the peninsula which is now a Welsh language centre. The village is home to a heritage centre where visitors can learn about the Welsh language and culture along with the history of the village. The old cottages have been converted and are now mainly used for the centre’s residential language courses, ‘Quarryman’s Cottage’ however has been recreated as a period house open to visitors. ‘The Nant’ is an enchanting place with an almost palpable sense of history and is a truly beautiful place to visit. There is so much to explore and discover in the area that one trip may not be enough! Other places of interest include the Lloyd George museum in Llanystumdwy, Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw in Llanbedrog, Iron Age hill fort at Tre’r Ceiri, the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways and the famous village-resort of Portmeirion near Porthmadog - you could even use your journey to or from the Llŷn to explore the castles at Caernarfon, Criccieth or Harlech. One thing’s for sure, if you have an interest in history or culture you’ll never be short of things to do here on the Llŷn!

ae gan Ben Llŷn, a fu unwaith yn gasgliad o bentrefi pysgota a ffermio bychain, hanes morwrol gwerthfawr; roedd amryw o deuluoedd yn genedlaethau o bysgotwyr
neu gapteiniaid môr a bu’r ardal yn ganolfan adeiladu llongau. Mae’r Amgueddfa Forwrol Llŷn yn Nefyn yn lle gwych i ddarganfod
yr hanes hwn trwy ffilmiau, arddangosfeydd rhyngweithiol a chelfi sy’n rhoi cipolwg ar dreftadaeth cyfoethog yr ardal.
Hefyd, fel rhan o lwybr hynafol y Pererinion, mae Llŷn yn ymfalchïo yn ei heglwysi hanesyddol hardd, sy’n cynnwys Edern, Llanbedrog, Llanengan,
Llangian a Sant Hywyn yn Aberdaron, sef yr arhosbwynt olaf cyn croesi’r Swnt peryglus i Ynys Enlli, yr ynys sanctaidd. Heddiw, gallwch fynd ar
bererindod eich hun drwy gerdded Llwybr yr Arfordir neu fynd ar daith cwch i’r ynys hudolus.
Mae’r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol yn gwarchod milltiroedd o’r arfordir, yn ogystal â rhostiroedd gyda’r glannau. Mae’n awyddus i addysgu’r cyhoedd
ac mae Porth y Swnt, Canolfan Ymwelwyr yr Ymddiriedolaeth, yn Aberdaron. Cynigia’r ganolfan gipolwg ar hanes a diwylliant Llŷn, gan gychwyn â dwy linell o
farddoniaeth un o drigolion enwocaf yr ardal (a Ficer Eglwys Sant Hywyn ar un adeg), sef R.S.Thomas, y bardd Eingl-Gymreig. Hefyd, mae’r Ymddiriedolaeth yn berchen
ar blasdy bychan swynol Plas yn Rhiw, yn ogystal â phentref pysgota Porthdinllaen, ble mae ‘cwt’ bach yn llawn gwybodaeth am hanes y pentref, ynghyd â’r prosiectau
cadwraeth cyfredol. Os hoffech ddarganfod mwy am ddiwylliant yr ardal, beth am ymweld â Nant
Gwrtheyrn, hen bentref chwarel Fictorianaidd diarffordd ar arfordir gogleddol Llŷn sydd nawr yn Ganolfan Iaith Gymraeg Genedlaethol. Mae’r pentref nawr yn gartref i ganolfan
treftadaeth ble caiff ymwelwyr gyfle i ddysgu am yr iaith Gymraeg a’i diwylliant, ynghyd â hanes y Nant. Adnewyddwyd yr hen fythynnod yn lety ar gyfer preswylwyr y cyrsiau Cymraeg
yn bennaf, ond ailgrëwyd Bwthyn y Chwarelwr fel tŷ cyfnod sydd ar agor i ymwelwyr. Mae’r Nant yn le gwirioneddol hudolus â bron yn synnwyr teimladwy o hanes ac yn fan prydferth dros ben i
ymweld ag o. Mae cymaint i’w ddarganfod yn yr ardal, fel na fydd un ymweliad yn ddigon! Lleoedd eraill o
ddiddordeb yn yr ardal yw Amgueddfa Lloyd George yn Llanystumdwy, Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw yn Llanbedrog, Tre’r Ceiri, y gaer o Oes yr Haearn, Rheilffyrdd Ffestiniog ac Ucheldir Cymru a phentref
enwog Portmeirion ger Porthmadog. Medrwch, hefyd, ymweld a darganfod hanes rhai o’r cestyll lleol yng Nghaernarfon, Cricieth neu Harlech ar eich taith i neu o Lŷn. Mae un peth yn sicr, os oes gennych
ddiddordeb mewn hanes neu ddiwylliant, mae digon i’ch diddori yn Llŷn!

le bynnag yr ydych yn Llŷn, byddwch yn sicr o fod yn agos at y môr – yn naturiol mae ei agosrwydd wedi gwneud Pen Llŷn yn ardal wych ar gyfer selogion hwylio a
chwaraeon dŵr. Mae Abersoch, yn benodol, yn ddewis poblogaidd ar gyfer hwylio; mae Ynysoedd Sant Tudwal yn cynnig cysgod oddi wrth
wyntoedd sy’n gwneud Bae Abersoch yn ddewis gwych i blant, pobl sy’n newydd i hwylio, yn ogystal â hwylwyr profiadol sydd, efallai, eisiau mentro
ymhellach o’r lan. Mae Clwb Hwylio De Sir Gaernarfon (SCYC) yn cynnal rhaglen
eang o ddigwyddiadau hwylio cystadleuol rhwng misoedd Mai ac Awst, gan gynnwys yr wythnosau Dingi a Chelfad hynod boblogaidd. Yn ystod misoedd yr
Haf, gwelwch ddigonedd o gychod wedi’u hangori oddi ar Borth Fawr ac yn ystod Wythnos Dingi mae’r traeth ei hun yn gartref i gannoedd o gychod sy’n ymweld!
Wrth gwrs, nid yw hwylio wedi ei gyfyngu i Abersoch – mae gan Bwllheli glwb hwylio prysur sy’n cynnig pencampwriaethau cystadleuol Cenedlaethol,
Ewropeaidd a Byd. Mae Clwb Hwylio Nefyn, ar ochr ogleddol Llŷn, yn cynnal rhaglen o rasus aml-ddosbarth drwy gydol mis Awst ac mae gan y tri chlwb ddigwyddiadau
cymdeithasol rheolaidd ar y lan! Dysgwch sut i hwylio – mae yna gyfleoedd o ddysgu sut i hwylio yn yr Ysgol Hwylio
ar y traeth yn Abersoch ac mae Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli yn Ganolfan Hyfforddi Onboard RYA. Mae’r dŵr sydd o amgylch Pwllheli ac Abersoch yn cynnig amodau gwych ac amgylchedd
prydferth i ddysgu ynddo i ddechreuwyr gyda chefndir mynyddoedd syfrdanol a thywydd da gyda diolch i Lif y Gwlff.
Yn dyst i statws yr ardal yn y byd hwylio mae Plas Heli, y ganolfan newydd gyffrous, Academi Cenedlaethol Hwylio Gymreig, a agora ym Mhwllheli yn ystod yr haf. Dechreua
digwyddiadau eleni â’r Optimist Ewropeaidd ar Orffennaf 11eg a fydd yn cynnwys yr Optimist Cenedlaethol, 29er Cenedlaethol a’r Byd; Pencampwriaethau Cenedlaethol IRC Cymru a’r Fireball
Byd. Mae Pwllheli hefyd yn cynnal Sioe Gychod Cymru Gyfan 2015, sef ‘gŵyl i ddathlu’r holl weithgareddau dŵr’ fydd yn cynnwys llu o arddangoswyr, digwyddiadau a chyfle i gael tro ar rai
gweithgareddau dŵr eich hun; mae’n ychwanegiad cyffrous iawn at galendr digwyddiadau Llŷn.
Felly pam fod yr ardal hon mor arbennig ar gyfer hwylio?Mae Llŷn yn cynnig arfordir prydferth ac amrywiol i’w ddarganfod: moroedd â digon o le, golygfeydd gwych
sy’n cynnwys mynyddoedd mawreddog Eryri, yn ogystal â chyfoeth o fywyd gwyllt morol i’w fwynhau gyda chyfle i weld morloi, llamhidyddion a dolffiniaid yn gyson – a oes angen dweud mwy?
(Am fwy o wybodaeth am hwylio yn yr ardal: www.pwllhelisailingclub.co.uk, www.scyc.co.uk neu www.plasheli.org )
B
There are so many beautiful villages hidden away on the Llŷn peninsula that deciding where to stay can be quite a tough choice! Abersoch is the largest of these villages and the most popular ‘resort’ with shops, bars
and restaurants aplenty, several beautiful beaches and all the necessary amenities. However, there are many other charming villages in the
surrounding area, each with their own character, and of course the small market town of Pwllheli.
There has been much development recently and Pwllheli now offers an increasing range of shops and restaurants and from this summer will
boast the new Welsh Sailing Academy, Plas Heli. Further along the coast Criccieth and Porthmadog are both good bases from which to explore the
wider area.
Best for sailors - choose from Abersoch or Pwllheli which both hold a number of sailing events, or Llanbedrog which is roughly a half way point
between the two. Nefyn is also a good choice.
Best for surfers - Llanengan and Rhiw (close to Hell’s Mouth), Aberdaron (close to Porthor), or Bwlchtocyn/Cilan (close to Porth Ceiriad).
Close to Abersoch - if you’d like to be close to Abersoch’s amenities but not quite in the village itself choose from Llanbedrog, Mynytho, Sarn Bach, Bwlchtocyn, Llanengan and Llangian, all of which are within a few miles
of Abersoch and several of which are within easy walking distance (Welsh weather permitting!).
Best for evenings out - stay in central Abersoch and you’ll have plenty of restaurants, pubs and bars to choose from (and no need to pay for a taxi).
Pwllheli also offers plenty of restaurants, bars and even a small cinema/theatre.
Quieter villages - choose from Llangian, Llanengan (still within easy reach of Abersoch), Boduan (central, so a good base for exploring the peninsula)
and Morfa Nefyn (with its own beautiful beach and a choice of pubs).
There’s also a wide choice of accommodation - camping, caravanning, B&Bs, hotels, self-catering - whatever you’re looking for you should
be able to find it here on the Llŷn. Choose from boutique hotels for a romantic weekend, large self-catering properties for family get-togethers or a campsite for the classic British summer holiday - for something a bit
different you can even stay in a Hobbit, a posh ‘camping pod’ with heating, lights and electric sockets!

Mae amryw o bentrefi tlws cudd ym Mhen Llŷn sydd yn gwneud dewis ble i aros yn benderfyniad anodd! Abersoch yw’r mwyaf ohonynt,
a’r mwyaf poblogaidd, gyda dewis eang o siopau, tafarndai a bwytai a nifer o draethau bendigedig a’r amwynderau angenrheidiol. Fodd
bynnag, mae llawer o’r pentrefi eraill gerllaw yn brydferth hefyd, i gyd â chymeriad ei hun ac, wrth gwrs mae Pwllheli, y dref farchnad.
Bu llawer o ddatblygu ym Mhwllheli yn ddiweddar ac mae nawr yn cynnig mwy o ddewis o siopau a bwytai ac, o ganol yr Haf yma bydd
yn ymffrostio wrth agor yr Academi Hwylio Cymreig, sef Plas Heli. Ymhellach ar hyd yr arfordir mae Cricieth a Phorthmadog, dwy ardal
dda i aros ynddynt er mwyn crwydro’r ardal.
Y gorau i hwylwyr - cewch ddewis rhwng Abersoch neu Bwllheli, gan eu bod yn cynnig nifer o ddigwyddiadau hwylio neu Llanbedrog sydd tua hanner ffordd rhwng y ddau le. Mae Nefyn yn ddewis da hefyd.
Y gorau i syrffwyr - mae Llanengan a’r Rhiw (nepell o Borth Neigwl), Aberdaron (nepell o Borthor) neu mae Bwlchtocyn/Cilan (ger Porth
Ceiriad).
Agos at Abersoch - os hoffech fod yn agos at Abersoch ond, nid yng nghanol y pentref ei hun, dewiswch rhwng Llanbedrog, Mynytho, Sarn Bach, Bwlchtocyn, Llanengan a Llangian; maent i gyd o fewn ychydig
filltiroedd i Abersoch a nifer yn ddigon agos i gerdded (yn ddibynnol ar y tywydd Cymreig wrth gwrs!).
Y gorau am nosweithiau allan - arhoswch yng nghanol Abersoch a chewch ddigon o ddewis o fwytai, tafarndai a bariau (ac ni fydd angen talu am dacsi!). Mae Pwllheli hefyd yn cynnig digon o fwytai, bariau a,
hyd yn oed, sinema bychan.
Pentref i tawelach - dewisiwch rhwng Llangian, Llanengan (dal yn agos at Abersoch), Boduan (canolig, felly’n le da i grwydro Pen Llŷn) a Morfa
Nefyn (gyda’i draeth prydferth ei hun a dewis o dafarndai).
Mae hefyd dewis eang o lety – gwersylla, carafanio, gwely a brecwast, gwestai, hunan-arlwyo – mae’n bosibl dod o hyd i bopeth ym Mhen
Llŷn. Dewisiwch rhwng gwestai ‘boutique’ am benwythnos rhamantus, eiddo mawr hunan-arlwyo ar gyfer y teulu oll neu beth am faes
gwersylla ar gyfer gwyliau Prydeinig go iawn! Am rywbeth ychydig yn unigryw, gellwch aros mewn Hobbit neu ‘bod gwersylla’ gyda gwres,
goleuadau a thrydan!

gan y pensaer golff enwog o’r Alban, James Braid.Felly, beth sydd mor arbennig am y cyrsiau hyn?
Abersoch - cwrs heriol a golygfaol sy’n cynnig cymysgedd o golff lincs a pharcdir, sy’n addas ar gyfer pob lefel o allu. Lleolir y Clwb Golff yng nghanol Abersoch a

f you love the outdoors then you’ve come to the right place - the Llŷn peninsula, with its unspoilt countryside, miles of coastline and close proximity
to Snowdonia is the perfect place to get out in the fresh air and explore. Whatever your age or ability there will be a route to suit you so make sure you pack your walking boots!
Guided walks - the Abersoch Walking Group meet most Tuesday mornings at 10am outside Rowlands Chemist (check the Tourist Information for actual dates). The walks are led by trained walk leader Jean Lancaster and last roughly 2 hours. All are welcome and the group will always walk to the slowest pace so don’t be afraid to go along and join them! The National Trust also hold a number of guided walks with the opportunity to learn about conservation, wildlife and local history along the way - for details visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk/llyn-peninsula.
Coastal path - the Wales Coast Path is an amazing 870 miles of uninterrupted coastal footpaths from Chepstow in the south to Queensferry in the north. On the Llŷn much of this path runs along the old ‘pilgrims’ way’, taking in historic churches, museums, areas of archaeological significance, picturesque coastline, enchanting fishing villages and view after stunning view! The coastal path really is a treat, whether you choose to walk your way around the tip of the peninsula, opt for a North Wales walking holiday or simply stroll from one beach to the next - just follow the blue and yellow circular signs. For more details visit www.walescoastpath.gov.uk.
‘O Ddrws i Ddrws’ - this bus service which runs three days a week (Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday) between Nefyn, Aberdaron and along the Llŷn coastline to Abersoch, is designed to encourage people to get out walking by picking up and dropping off along the coastal path route. The service also makes attractions such as Menter y Felin Uchaf, Porth y Swnt and the Llŷn Maritime Museum much more accessible to those without their own transport. The bus costs just £1 (free to those with a bus pass!) and will divert from its regular route to pick you up, particularly useful if you’re staying slightly off the beaten track. All you need to do is call 24 hrs before you’d like collecting to arrange a time and pick up point - contact Angela on 01758 721777 or email [email protected] to make arrangements or learn more about the service.

If you’re a bit of a homebody you’ll find plenty to please you here on the Llŷn; there are several interiors and
antiques shops selling everything from handcrafted furniture to crockery,
glassware, table cloths, bedspreads, rugs, cushions and quilts! There are also quite a few artisan craft shops
where you can pick up beautiful home accessories and a number of
photographic and art galleries selling stunning images of the area, perfect to take home as a reminder of your holiday or to adorn the walls of your
own Llŷn hideaway.
If you’re lucky enough to own a second home in the area you’ll appreciate how great it is to be able to enjoy regular holidays in your favourite getaway location or escape for a
weekend away at the drop of a hat! However you’ll also have the task
of looking after a home that you’re often absent from. Luckily there are lots of local companies who can help
with that so if you don’t want the hassle of maintaining two houses
let someone lend a hand; there are painters and decorators, gardeners,
cleaners, window cleaners and general handymen aplenty, and even caretaker companies that will check your house,
collect your post and put your bins out!
If you’re planning on refurbishing or restyling then there are also a number of interiors experts who will gladly visit
your holiday home or chalet to give advice and help you style it - some can
even run you up bespoke curtains, cushions, blinds and other soft
furnishings.

Part vibrant holiday destination and part tranquil, evocative and timeless landscape, the Llŷn peninsula has countless qualities. For many, ‘Abersoch’ is synonymous with summer; the beach, the water, sunny days and good times. But Abersoch is (believe it or not!) about
more than just ‘the season’; activities such as walking, cycling and fishing can be enjoyed all year round
and more and more businesses in the village and surrounding areas are
staying open 12 months of the year, making Abersoch very much ‘a village for
all seasons’.
Make the most of the lengthening days and get out and about before the area gets too
busy; enjoy peaceful walks and bike rides, celebrate St. David’s Day
with the Abersoch Spring Festival, (a celebration of all
things Welsh and a good opportunity for
little ones to dress up!) and look out for Easter activities such as the National Trust
Easter Egg Hunts. As temperatures
start to rise a steady catch of herring, dabs, flounder and rays give
fishermen a taste of what’s to come. The majority of the area’s camping and
caravan sites reopen on March 1st.
For most people summer on the Llŷn is about one of two things - the beach
and the sea! For sun worshippers and
watersports lovers summer is the time to be here - this is also a perfect time for young families as kiddies will love nothing more than
a week spent on the beach. Join in
the National Trust’s beach based activity days, or book your stay for Abersoch Regatta Week to
enjoy a whole week of beach fun! Warm summer evenings lend themselves to leisurely walks,
BBQs or even fishing - summer brings sporting fun from
mackerel, bass, tope and Pollack caught
from boat or beach.
September and October are ideal
times to visit; much quieter than the
lively summer months but still warm enough to
enjoy the outdoors. Get outside during the day (dogs are
allowed on all beaches again by October) and in the evening take advantage of the excellent range of restaurants and bars, which can be very hard to get into during
the busy summer months! For keen
fishermen the warm settled weather of
Autumn ensures an improvement in the
quality of catches of fish such as bass,
huss and tope.
Spring // Summer // Autumn // WinterWinter is becoming
an increasingly popular time to visit,
why not get away from the hustle
and bustle of the high street and enjoy Christmas
shopping in peace in Abersoch’s wide
range of shops? Come and enjoy the magical atmosphere
of the Abersoch Christmas Festival Weekend at the
end of November - great fun for all the family! Take
bracing walks along the near empty
beaches and spend cosy afternoons
by the fire. As the water temperatures
decrease good catches of codling,
coalfish and whiting can be had for the
hardy angler!

Mae gan Llŷn amryw o rinweddau, fel cyrchfan wyliau bywiog a thangnefeddus ond hefyd fel tirlun hanesyddol hardd. I amryw o bobl, mae ‘Abersoch’ gyfystyr â’r haf; y traeth, y môr, dyddiau heulog ac amseroedd da. Ond, mae Abersoch (coeliwch neu beidio!) yn fwy na dim ond ‘y tymor’; gellir mwynhau
gweithgareddau megis cerdded, beicio a physgota drwy gydol y flwyddyn ac mae mwyfwy o fusnesau yn y pentref a’r cylch yn aros ar agor ddeuddeng mis o’r flwyddyn, yn gwneud Abersoch yn ‘bentref i bob tymor’.
Gwnewch yn fawr o’r dyddiau hir ac ewch
allan cyn i’r ardal brysuro’n ormodol;
mwynhewch deithiau cerdded
tawel a beicio, dathlwch Ddydd
Gŵyl Dewi gyda Gŵyl Wanwyn Abersoch (dathliad o bopeth Cymraeg a chyfle i’r plantos wisgo fyny!) ac edrychwch am weithgareddau’r
Pasg megis Helfa Wyau’r
Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol. Fel mae’r tymheredd yn dechrau codi,
mae dalfa gyson o bennog, lledod a
chathod môr yn rhoi blas o’r hyn sydd i ddod i bysgotwyr!
Mae mwyafrif y meysydd pebyll a charafannau yn
ailagor ar Fawrth 1af.
I’r mwyafrif, golyga’r haf yn Llŷn un o ddau beth
– y traeth a’r môr! I’r rhai sy’n addoli’r haul a charu chwaraeon dŵr, dyma’r amser i fod yma! Mae’n amser perffaith i
deuluoedd ifanc â phlant fwynhau treulio
wythnos ar y traeth. Ymunwch â dyddiau
gweithgareddau traeth Yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol neu
archebwch eich llety ar gyfer wythnos Regata Abersoch i fwynhau wythnos llawn hwyl ar lan y môr. Mae
nosweithiau cynnes yr haf yn cynnig eu hunain i fynd am
droeon hamddenol, barbaciw neu, hyd yn oed, bysgota – daw’r
haf â digon o hwyl dal mecryll, draenogod y môr, morgwn gleision
a’r morlas oddi ar gwch neu’r traeth.
Mae misoedd Medi a Hydref yn amser delfrydol i ymweld; tipyn tawelach na misoedd bywiog yr haf ond, dal yn ddigon cynnes i fwynhau’r awyr agored. Ewch
allan yn ystod y dydd (caniateir
cŵn ar bob un o’r traethau erbyn mis
Hydref) a gyda’r nos manteisiwch ar yr ystod gwych o fwytai a bariau, sy’n gallu bod yn anodd yn ystod
misoedd prysur yr haf! I bysgotwyr brwdfrydig, mae tywydd cynnes yr Hydref yn sicrhau
gwelliant yn ansawdd y dalfeydd
pysgod megis draenogod y môr a’r
morgwn gleision.
Gwanwyn // Haf // Hydref // GaeafMae ymweld yn ystod y Gaeaf yn
dod yn fwyfwy poblogaidd, gan roi cyfle i ddianc
o brysurdeb siopau’r Stryd
Fawr a mwynhau siopa Nadolig
mewn heddwch yn amrywiol
siopau Abersoch. Dewch i ymuno ag awyrgylch hudol
penwythnos Gŵyl y Nadolig Abersoch ar ddiwedd mis
Tachwedd – hwyl i’r teulu oll! Ewch am dro iachusol ar hyd y traethau gwag a threuliwch
brynhawniau cysurus o flaen
y tân. Wrth i dymheredd y dŵr ostwng, mae cyfle gwych i bysgotwyr
gwydn ddal penfras ifanc, celogiaid a
morwyniaid.
There are plenty of opportunities for a spot of retail therapy here on
the Llŷn peninsula!
Abersoch is well known for its many clothes shops, boasting a number
of High Street stores as well as several fantastic independent
shops selling everything from posh wellies to sparkly flip-flops, designer
swimwear, ethically made and sourced clothing and of course the
ever-popular Abersoch branded hoodies, vests and t-shirts.
But it’s not just clothes: accessories are taken care of with scarves, sunglasses, umbrellas, beach
towels, gorgeous jewellery, handbags, purses, rucksacks, beach bags - you name it, Abersoch’s got
it!
There’ are also several dedicated watersports shops who can provide you with everything you need to get out on the water and there’s even a small chandlery. Let’s not forget
gift shops, craft shops, beach shops and the all-important newsagents, selling holiday essentials including
papers, magazines, postcards, stamps, toys and ice creams!
There’s plenty to peruse further afield too with an increasing
range of shops in Pwllheli (and a market every Wednesday) and
Porthmadog. Criccieth also offers a number of gifts, craft and antiques shops and is well worth a browse!
