REPUBLIC DAY REPORT
The Constitution of India, which was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on
November 26, 1949, came into effect on January 26, 1950. This completed India's
transition towards becoming an independent republic with a democratic
government system. January 26 was also chosen as the day to mark Republic Day
because it had been on this day that the Indian National Congress (INC)
proclaimed the Declaration of Indian Independence in 1929. This was contrary to
the 'dominion' status offered by the British.
Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect
on 26 January 1950. Republic Day celebrated with patriotic zeal, with students and
teachers organizing programmes and performances to mark the day.
Republic day celebration started with the patriotic song followed by our Principal
Dr.A.V.Mayakannan hoisting our national flag. Students saluted the National
Flag and pledged themselves to uphold the honour and integrity, diversity and
uniqueness that is “India” and the address by our senior faculty highlighted the
significance of the day, and made the students aware that the future of the country
lies in their hands. Hence they need to study well and inculcate good values in life,
which will help them to be good citizen of the country and finally Christian hymn
titled 'Abide With Me', is played to mark the end of R-Day celebrations

NATIONAL VOTERS DAY
In order to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process, Government
of India has decided to celebrate January 25 every year as "National Voters' Day". On this day,
voters are made aware of their value in voting and to promote their informed participation in the
electoral process.
National Voters Day is significant for India as the future of a country lies in the leader
that we choose. If we do not come forward and choose the right leader then the progress and
development of the country will be hampered and will also affect the people of the country. It is
the leader of the country who decides various basic big projects and several things. And voters
decide the leader.
National Voters day began with prayer song by our college choir, welcome speech by our
students and the Voters’ Pledge. It was followed by the inauguration of events such as Essay
Writing, Elocution and Debates on “How to become a responsible voter”, organized in lieu of the
day. All students and faculty were present in the celebration. The Governments theme for the
year was "Easy Registration, Easy Correction", on which Dr.Muniaraj, Professor/Mechanical
gave a brief lecture on the registration process for Voter ID and also about the facilities given by
the government for corrections that can be made in the voter ID for students. The students were
encouraged for participation and to build a strong voters network for the coming generation who
will make sure to cast their votes without fail on National Voters’ Day.

HUMAN RIGHTS DAY
Every year, International Human Rights Day is celebrated on December 10. The main
aim behind celebrating this day is to improve the physical, social, cultural and spiritual wellbeing
and welfare of the vulnerable group of people globally. In 1993, an autonomous public body,
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India, was established for the protection and
promotion of human rights, which works on rights relating to life, liberty, equality and dignity of
an individual.
Human Rights Day is observed to educate students about their rights regardless of race,
colour, religion, sex, language, birth and status. Human Rights is non-discriminatory, that is, all
human beings are entitled to be equal rights and certain people cannot be excluded from them.
And the dilemma is that all human beings are entitled to human rights but do not experience
them equally throughout the world. Our Principal Dr.A.V.Mayakannan addressed our students
and explained them briefly on non-discrimination among students and how they should
coordinate with others inside the college campus and also outside the campus. Also, he gave a
brief note on what are the different rights a normal human can avail. Students and staff
applauded the principal for his speech on the day.

He also said that Indian universities are lagging behind in filing patents for innovation as focus is
more on publishing research papers than going for patenting innovation. "India’s trademark
registration is fifth in the world, which is a good thing that has happened. In Asia, India is second
highest in terms of trademark registration after China. Registering one’s own trademark is a very
important step as it is the identity of the company," he said.

ACADEMIC YEAR (2018-2019)
ANTITERRORISM DAY
Anti-Terrorism day is observed in our institution to promote unity among the people and
to provide education, training and awareness to youngsters about the dangers of terrorism,
violence and its dangerous effect on the people, society and the whole country. One of our senior
faculty accompanied our students to Rajiv Gandhi Memorial, Sriperumbudur, located near our
institution and gave brief speech on who are the people responsible for causing terror. Our
faculty also said students that killing innocent lives is not an act terror, rather, it utter foolishness.
They may be taught to do that, but we should be the ones who must promote peace. No one can
stop us from promoting peace until we lead people to our path without any fear. The talk ended
with the words “Terrorism has no religion. No religion promotes terrorism, and every religion
promotes peace.”
