Acorn Class Newsletter Friday 8 th November 2019 What have we been up to this week? In literacy we received a letter from the Wicked Witch who was delivered a letter by The Jolly Postman. We wrote a list of ingredients for potions for the witch – remembering to start each ingredient on a new line and the use bullet points in our lists. The children had some fantastic ideas! In maths we have been finding ‘one less’ than a number up to 10. We have used objects and numberlines to help us solve ‘one less’ problems and have also counted back to find the number before. Important dates… Wednesday 13 th November – Individual school photos (and siblings if your child has a sibling in the school). Wednesday 11 th December – Acorn Class Nativity @9:15am in the hall. Phonics focus this week… We have reviewed all the sounds we have learnt so far and applied them to our reading and writing. We have also learnt to read the tricky words ‘no’, go’ and ‘I’. Tricky words are words that cannot be sounded out and have to be learnt by sight. Please practise reading these words at home. We have continued writing words using the sounds we know. We have continued to practise sounding out and blending to say and read words and captions. Homework Parents – please let us know how your child found this challenge. Your child could have a go at writing the number sentence to show these problems – e.g. 10-1=9 etc. Information… Morning Drop Off – As the children have been in school for a while now and are very well settled, we are asking that you drop your child at the bottom of the ramp to the classroom in the morning. It is important that we get the children in quickly and calmly to help them to settle for a busy morning of learning. If you have something you need to talk to us about that cannot be written in your contact book, you can of course let us know at the door, but otherwise dropping your child off at the bottom of the ramp will help us to settle them quickly and with much less disruption. Thank you. Junk Modelling – Thank you to those who have given us junk modelling resources! Anymore donations would be much appreciated! What’s coming up next week? Next week we will learn to name and describe 3D shapes. We will read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and make our own wanted posters. We will learn about the importance of Remembrance Day and will make our own poppies.

What have we been up to this week?

In Forest School we went on a ‘senses hunt’. We learnt about our five senses and went exploring for different sounds, sights, textures and smells

(not tastes!!).
