During the six years I photographed Mississippi juke

see new things and make more pictures. This image wasalmost an aterthought I made on the way out the door

ater a several-hours-long session. Years later I was

startled and pleased when I realized the composition is

almost a mirror image o van Goghs Night Cae, one omy avorite paintings.

The Birthday Party is a collection o short stories woven

together by the theme o a birthday party, a reminder

o our own childhood when dressing up and adventures

were only limited by our own imagination. Thisparticular little girl actually likes to dress in retro clothes

all the time, so when I gave her a choice about who she

could be, we both agreed she reminded me o a perectly

coied air hostess ready to board her imaginary plane.
