St Christophers
Welcome Note Hello everyone! Kia ora and welcome to our new residents and families. I hope that you will settle in quickly. Due to our longstanding connections in the community, we continue to receive enquiries from people wanting to move into the facility.
As it is the new normal for all of us, residents, families and friends were able to follow up the MOH guidelines as well as CHT’s framework around different Covid 19 levels. I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the cooperation and support during Covid 19 Lockdown restrictions.
Activities and Celebrations In the Month of July we celebrated our St Christophers’ Games. Our Opening Ceremony was celebrated on Friday 24th July 2020.
The day started off with a parade with the help of staff, students and children from Lollipops Airport. Each wing of the facility was represented by a resident.
The Games torch was passed around by the residents and the cauldron was lit and the Games were declared open.
On Thursday 23rd July 2020 a handful of residents from St Christophers utilised Go Bus to visit CHT sites to pass our Games Torch before the Opening Ceremony on Friday 24th July 2020.
We visited Lansdowne, Hillcrest, Royal Oak and St Johns.
On behalf of the Activities team I’d like to thank the CHT sites for their warmth and hospitality during our brief visits to pass our Torch.
We ended our Bus Trip day with a well-deserved ice cream cone from McDonalds.

St Christophers
Improvements and Initiatives This is exciting news for St Christophers: St Christophers will be undergoing a major refurbishment project in the next few months. The project will mainly focus on the rest home part of the facility with a few alterations made to the Hospital wings as well. We have community members who have shown interest to be our volunteers including some staff members who once used to do this in their own time. We have the pleasure of having one of our HCA, Murray Jones playing the accordion for our residents in his free time .
Resident Stories Audrey Lavinia Nola Smith came to ST Christopher on the 27th May 2007. Celebrated her 100th birthday on the 9th of June 2020. The highlight of the day was the closing words of wisdom and appreciation from her son Graeme Hamilton ‘’I would particularly like to pay tribute to the residents and staff of St Christopher’s, both past and present, who have befriended and cared for Mum over these past 13 years. This has enabled her to continue to enjoy her time in the Papatoetoe area that she knows so well, in fact for over 74 years. Of course there were benefits, as she often knew others from the area who came to stay here too. So thank you all, and please enjoy the cake, knowing that you too can have such a reception.
Residents /Family meetings are still held every 3 months. We welcome feedback and opportunity to improve our services. Next scheduled meeting is on the 9th Wednesday at 10.30 Focus on International Cultural awareness for September. 15th September 2020 bus trip to Ambury Farm. 1st October 2020 – International day of the Older Person – theme will be Spring garden party.
