Despite all that Africa has to offer, because of our
general lack of knowledge of the continent, oracceptance of incomplete and often misguidedinformation, it is only recently being viewed as a hot,new or more popular and exciting destination.
The UNs World Tourism Organization points out thatin 2009:
The number of world tourism arrivals for Africa was46 million or only 5% of all tourist arrivals.
While Europe, by contrast, was 460 million or52% of all tourist arrivals.

The Heritage/Cultural Traveler
The Heritage/Cultural Traveler is generally bettereducated, more affluent and has higherexpectations for travel experiences that are both
enjoyable and educational. For some travelers, cultural and heritage
experiences are value added, enhancing theirenjoyment of a destination.
For a growing number of travelers who are boredwith the homogenization of places around theworld, authentic experiences are an importantfactor and motivator for their travel decisions andexpectations.
