EVANSTON ART CENTER

OUR NONPROFIT MISSIONThe Evanston Art Center (EAC) is dedicated to fostering the appreciation and expression of art among diverse audiences. EAC offers extensive and innovative instruction in broad areas of artistic endeavor through classes, exhibitions, interactive arts activities, and community outreach initiatives.

LUNCHFor all-day camps, students bring their own nut-free lunch.

If you’d like to register your child for a morning and an afternoon session, a 30-minute supervised lunch break is included at no extra charge. Campers are automatically enrolled in lunch by registering for both camps.

LATE PICK-UP ARRANGEMENTSIf you cannot pick up your child until 4:30 p.m., they can stay with a Teaching Assistant and continue to work on their projects started earlier in the day. $15 per day. Advance notice is needed. Contact the Director of Education to arrange.

OUTDOOR BREAKS PLANNEDCampers visit nearby McCulloch Park for a break during the day, weather permitting. We suggest you pack sunscreen and any sun protection your child may need. Students are typically given an option of continuing to work or going outside – both options include supervision by our great camp team members!

SIGNED EMERGENCY CONTACT FORM REQUIREDThe first day of camp or prior, all guardians must complete and sign an emergency contact form that includes multiple phone numbers and any medical or emergency information. We suggest you find this form online or pick up from the front desk prior to your arrival to expedite first day check-in process.

PARKINGThe parking lot adjacent to the Art Center is available on first-come, first-served basis with vehicles exhibiting a parking permit. Permits are available from the EAC front desk. Street parking is also available. Please do not park in our neighbors’ parking lots.

HI! WELCOME TO SUMMER CAMP AT EACAt EAC, we value creative exploration and cultivation because there are no “right” answers in art! Just different ways to approach and solve problems, think critically, and achieve goals. We focus on sharing new techniques and skills that enhance existing interests, allow for multiple perspectives and interpretations.

AGES 4-5, 6-8 SUMMER CAMPSOur younger campers share a fun and dynamic camp theme each week that directs our artistic exploration, emphasizing skill-building, arts and visual literacy, and behavioral and emotional development. Campers ages 4-5 create simplified versions of the art projects, with older campers’ mixed media camps focusing on drawing, painting, sculpture and assemblage and multi-day projects. Afternoon ceramics campers will apply the theme to their ceramics works. On Fridays, campers ages 4-5, 6-8 will be invited to dress up related to the theme! You’ll learn more on the first day of camp.

GIVE US 2 WEEKS FOR CLAY PROJECTS: Afternoon clay projects will be available beginning about 2 weeks after camp. The EAC will contact you via email when the projects are ready for pick-up. You will have a 4-week period to pick up the projects from the EAC.

LUNCH INCLUDED: If you’d like to register your child aged 6-8 for a morning and an afternoon camp session, a 30-minute supervised, nut-free lunch break is included at no extra charge. Campers are automatically enrolled in lunch by registering for both the morning and afternoon camps.

WEEK 1 (JUNE 8-12) UNDER THE SEASnorkel over to camp! Campers will focus on everything aquatic while learning about marine animals and underwater plants. Projects will cover creating an underwater landscape painting (including your favorite mermaids or sea monsters), a turtle bowl, and other works starring your fish, otters, and other ocean friends. WEEK 2 (JUNE 15-19) SHARING ART One of the best things about artmaking is sharing it with others! Join us for a week about giving as we create artwork meant to be shared with the ones we love. Create family finger puppets, mold air dry pets and use printmaking techniques to print your very own gift cards for your family and friends! Collaborate and exchange art with your campmates if you’d like, too! Afternoon clay campers will utilize the power of clay to shape, mold, and build their imagination. Learn simple color theory, practice color-mixing with watercolors and acrylic paints, create vivid sculptures, and other projects inspired by vibrant artists such as Frida Kahlo, Henri Matisse and Mark Rothko. After reviewing beloved books with words and pictures, we’ll examine visual works of art to understand the story the author is trying to share. Campers will create their own narrative works of art in varying media inspired by what we learn—bringing their favorite stories to life in a new way! Afternoon campers will create ceramic sculptures that illustrate, reflect, and progress the stories discussed in class. WEEK 11 (AUGUST 17-21) EARTH WEEKInstead of an Earth Day, let’s make it an Earth Week! We’ll focus on the environment as we make works of art inspired by, and made from natural or recycled materials. Projects include assemblage sculptures from recyclable materials, leaf prints, collage, and more. Afternoon campers will help the earth by making your own earth plate, endangered animal figurine, and scrap clay sculpture. AGES 9-11, 12-14 SUMMER CAMPSOur older campers are invited to focus on different disciplines each week of camp, ranging from various digital media courses to drawing and painting, fashion design, and architecture that focus on skill- and confidence-building projects that allow you to experiment and problem solve with equipment, ideas, and different artistic forms. We’ll equip you with the framework, but you fill in the rest with your own unique twist. Develop your creativity and confidence as you head back to middle school or high school!

ARCHITECTURE & DESIGNWould you like to buy your milk while inside a milk bottle-shaped building? Learn what mimetic architecture is, looking at celebrated buildings from around the world. Explore the field of architecture and design through fun examples and hands-on practice. Specifically, finding inspiration from everyday life; gaining critical thinking and problem-solving skills through building an architecture model. ART HISTORYCreate works of art inspired by artists and art movements as we explore art throughout history. Get to know a different art movement and medium at the beginning of each day, followed by hands-on art making to utilize visual and tactile learning to build a deeper understanding of art history and the artistic process. We will cover art from about 500 BCE to present, and include works from all over the world. REGISTER TODAY!Registration is now open for summer camp! We offer three options to register your child:1. Online – www.evanstonartcenter.org. Search for the course number.2. In-person – visit us at EAC, and register at our front desk: The Evanston Art Center accepts registration during

its regular business hours: Monday – Thursday, 9 am – 10pm Friday, 9 am – 9pm Saturday and Sunday 9 am – 4 pm3. Over the phone – call 847-475-5300.

REFUND & CANCELLATION POLICY• If a camp does not have sufficient enrollment to run, all registrants will be notified 5 days prior to the start of camp

and will receive a full refund.• No refunds are given for classes dropped beyond the next business day after the first class has met. • EAC staff must be notified when dropping a class. Note that not attending does not constitute an official

withdrawal. • The refund policy is as follows:

EVANSTON ART CENTER OBSERVED HOLIDAYS Classes will not be held on major holidays or during extreme weather events. Classes falling on these days will be made up at the end of the term and will be coordinated between faculty members and each class. Only the administration may cancel classes in case of inclement weather. There is no camp on Friday, July 3, 2020 in observance of Independence Day. Tuition prices are adjusted accordingly.

LIABILITY WAIVER By registering for a camp, you agree to the following: I understand and accept the registration and refund policy of the Evanston Art Center and know that EAC membership fees are non-refundable and there are no exceptions to EAC policies. I recognize EAC’s right to refuse to retain any student in any class at any time without incurring obligations. I hereby accept and assume all risk for any harm, injury or damages that may befall me, foreseen or unforeseen, as a result of my participation in workshops and classes at EAC. I authorize EAC to seek medical assistance on my or my child’s behalf if necessary.
