The Volusia Region of AACA recently held a picnic on the grounds of The Agricultural Museum just

south of Pellicer Creek, near the Princess Place Preserve that we have been wanting to visit for a long

time. Our club members were invited and so Bob and Jinny Quackenbush elected to represent us.

Picnic – May 23, 2010

This beautiful ’49 Olds was shown by Dick and Carol

Hewett of the Wheels In Motion Club. They report that

it was a basket case that they have lovingly restored—It

is truly lovely. Dave Schull brought his

beautiful Pontiac 5L. It is a

good thing that there were

large areas in which to park

land yachts.

As you can see from the next photos the venue was lovely, very picturesque. There was a ride on a tractor provided that toured the Museum. Old tractors and beautiful old farm-type buildings graced the acreage and the open-sided barn afforded welcome shade from the sun.

After the picnic, Bob and I went over to the home of Dave and Nancy Schull, where we were treated to a “garage tour”. As you can see from the photos, Dave collects a lot more than cars.

The beautiful “T” above was displayed by the

Schneiders of the Volusia Club. They tour all

over the place with this car and it is always fun

to see them.

We also got to see this lovely REO truck. We were tired when we got home, but we had a good time! ---Jinny Quackenbush

Minutes of board meeting June 17,2010 At 7PM the meeting came to order at the Guarnieri's, with Dewey Porter, Bob Q, Mark Young, and Dick Sherrod in attendance. Treasury reports $3966 with $500 earmarked for the scholarship fund. It was also reported that new club shirts which were ordered but not picked up yet were mailed to four members last week but only one has returned a check to the club? Membership is holding at 38 with a new application sent to Glen C Klein of St Augustine, thanks to Ron Leone for the lead. The July 22nd dine out will be to the Riverview Grille at 950 North US 1, Ormand Beach FL (386-615-2004) a group will be leaving from Jinny's Publix at 5PM The July 15th Board meeting will be hosted by the Young's The clubs first venture into a cruise night with be Saturday night July 10th at 5PM. Mark Young will email the members as a reminder. The board also asks that member try to get the word out and invite other car enthusiasts. The location for the monthly meeting, again has been brought up, any member with any ideas as to where the club can hold its monthly meeting is asked to contact any board member with the suggestion. The board feels that a change of venue may or may not lead to better attendance! Dewey Porter is still looking for someone to assist him in mailing out the Olde News, please contact Dewey. The clubs annual scholarship awards was brought up and a motion was made by Mark Young, seconded by Dick Sherrod to continue with the awards and approved unanimously by the board . It is a good cause and has been generating a lot of good publicity and good will for the club *****************************THE CAR SHOW********** **************** Dewey presented the flyer for the Sept 25th car show, suggestions were made by board members including the addition of the AACA logo. It will be forwarded to Kathy Shelter & Michelle Love at FSDB, who will see have it printed, as part of their participation in the cost of the event. The dash plaque was also discussed and the board approved one of the designs formulated by Mark Young and Lynn Walker of Crown Trophy, all we need to do is make sure the AACA logo is added. John Guarnieri presented the 16 inch second place trophy made up by Lynn Walker, and explained that the first place trophy will be 20 inches and third place 12 inches. The board accepted the trophy and Lynn Walker will be advised as well as FSDB who will be paying for the trophies and dash plaques. The board is asking our web master Rob Daly to put the show flyer on our web site, with the registration part available to be down loaded from the computer. John G. also reports that Rob Daly is working on our own web site which will be able to be accessed directly without going to the AACA website. Rob is doing this and will be donating the web site to the club. Its nice to see new members becoming involved in the club. Mark Young will be checking with FSDB to see if they will make golf carts available to us on the day of the show. Dewey Porter reports that we do not have records from last years show? So anyone with knowledge as to where they might be is to contact Dewey. In connection with this we may or may not need addition windshield placards for the show, if any will be needed Bob Q has said he will make sure we will have them Show assignment were discussed and Dewey has asked John G to read the list of position as the next open meeting to solicit volunteers Show insurance was requested from the National by John G and he has already received the policy from the AACA and turned it over to Dewey Bob Q would like to have small prizes that he can give to children that attend the show as prizes for his trivia questions, the board agreed Dewey is going to contact Paul Williamson of the City and inform him of the clubs 26th annual show, Dewey feels it is important to stay on good terms with the city. The meeting was adjourned at 830PM John Guarnieri St Augustine, FL

Minutes of monthly meeting July 1, 2010 By John Guarnieri, sec/treas Meeting at the Village Inn called to order by Dewey Porter at 715PM

John Guarnieri reports that we have 38 members, with 3 applications in the mail Treasury report of $4155.33 with $500 due to be paid for a scholarship, leaving a true balance of $3655.33 John would like to thanks the Tompkins for including postage in payment for their new club shirts Dick Sherrod went over the clubs upcoming activities, please refer to the Olde News for details. Dewey Porter went over the upcoming car show and reports that the trophies, dash plaques and fliers have been ordered. He further states that all printing, except for the windshield placards, are being printed by the FSDB. Dewey will be making arrangements for Bill Soman to gain entrance to the FSDB to go over the layout of the show field. All members are urged to contact Dewey or Bob Q to see what area they may volunteer to help with at the show Mark Young gave a demonstration on various shop tools and how their use far exceeds the normal decibel levels needed to keep ones hearing from being permanently damaged. He demonstrated a cutoff tool made by "Air Cat" which is available through Northern Tools, like the TV ads for motor oils, pay a little more now or invest in hearing aids later on. It was a great demonstration and one I wish I had seen 20 years ago! The 50/50 of $15 was won by Bob Barton and $15 going to the club.

AACA GRAND NATIONAL NEW BERN SHOW IS A DISPLAY OF PERFECT ENTRIES Story & photos by Dewey Porter

Although I have been an AACA member over 50 years, I had never attended a show that was exclusively a Grand National. I have been to dual meets wherein both Grand National cars and cars competing for Junior and Senior were on the show field. In a Grand National, all of the entries have to have won a national AACA Senior award to qualify. This results in every entry entered being a perfect restoration With 517 cars, trucks and motor scooters to look at it was sensory overload. I spent most of my time with pre war cars as you just don’t have the time or stamina to view every entry in detail. A complete

list of winners is available on the AACA web site. We were close enough to John at the awards banquet to share the tension which was finally broken when his name was called.. Would I go again to a Grand National, absolutely !

96 degrees, a record for that date in New Bern N.C.

All entries were parked in downtown streets
