    1. Andrew^ Elliot of Beverly, was representative 1690-2, and wasone of the jurors on the witch trials. We feel sure that he was the" cordwainer," Andrew Elliot, Sen., of Beverlj'-, whose will is dated26 Feb., 1Y03-4. (Essex Wills, viii. 95.) He mentions relatives asfollows :—His wife Mary " for the love, care and faithfulness whichshe has always manifested for and towards mee for forty years pastand more."

    I. Son William, his present wife Mary, and children Andrew, Wil-liam, John, Judith, Mary, Emma and Elizabeth.

    7. SamueP Eliot, of Boston, was a distinguished merchant, presi-dent of the Massachusetts Bank, &c. He was a liberal benefector toHarvard College, in which he founded a Professorship of Greek Litera-ture. He m. first, Elizabeth Barrell, , 1765, and had

    resources of Boston. He built the Tremont House, then far in ad-*vance of hotels here or abroad, and in other ways showed a strongpublic spirit. He was a representative, and at the moment of his un-timely death, 6 Dec, 1831, was a candidate for the Mayoralty, whichhe would undoubtedly have received. His widow d. 31 Oct., 1864.

    Hon. Samuel-A. Eliot was treasurer of Harvard College, 1842-53?Mayor of Boston, 1837-9 ; State Senator ; and Representative in Con-gress, 1850-1. He d. 29 Jan., 1862. His son, Charles-William, hasrecently been elected President of Harvard College, and his nephew,Samuel, has been President of Trinity College, Hartford.

    NOTES.

    Eliot Family. In tracing the Boston Eliots we have found a fewindividuals who seem not to be connected with the main families, andwe therefore record the data for other investigators.

    1. Joseph Eliot, of Boston, by wife Sarah, had Joseph, b. 10 July,1698, and Benjamin, b. 23 May, 1700.

    2. Capt. John Eliot, by wife Maria, had John, b. 25 Feb., 1714 ; Bar-tholomew, b. 1 June, 1716 ; Maria, b. 5 May, 1718 ; and John,b. 5 June, 1721. His wife d. 21 Sept., 1721, aged 27 years, 11mos., 8 d. He d. 9 June, 1727, aged 32.

    3. William Eliot, by wife Isabella, had Isabella, b. 22 Sept., 1716.4. John Eliot, m. Martha Clark, 13 April, 1725, and had a son Clark,

    b. 26 Dec, 1732.5. Joseph Eliot, by wife Elizabeth, had Elizabeth, b. 20 Sept., 1728.6. Simon Eliot, by wife Jane, had Margaret, who d. 10 May, 1752,

    aged 17. Simon d. 7 Jan., 1761, aged 49,7. Administrator of estate of John Eliot, tin-plate worker, was

    granted 26 June, 1727, to his widow Sarah, who m. 2d,Dolbear. In 1729, Wm. Downes was guardian of the children,Rebecca, aged 7, and John, aged 5.
