In the last two years SKA has enrolled over 100 kids and we have about 72 swimmers registered with SKA. Currently, we have 62 in the pool at any given time between Waimea and the YMCA. At our home meets we have between 35-40 SKA kids putting their training to the test. We will run 9

SKA meets this year and an additional(probably) 3-4 High School meets. Also SKA puts on a two-day (Kauai Classic) meet, inviting teams from all over to taste our hotdogs, compete and maybe play a water polo match with us. We put on a community event, the Kauai Loves You triathlon in Lihue by

the sweat of our brow alone... this year April 30. (Watch out for imitators). Off island?...6th place at Mamizuka Invitational and 6th place at last years Bill Smith Invite out of 30 teams in Hawaii. SKA

represents Kauai (proof is in the pudding !) CHEST PUMP!! WOO WOO!!

The coaches put on THE most awesome fall break daily double monster stroke camp ever shooting videos and will be handing out special t-shirts to the iron men and girls who made all practices! Good

job to all. ( I have never seen kids sleep so hard during that week!).

The swim a thon® is our only forced, arm behind the back ,cry uncle.. fundraiser we require families to endure. I can feel it... Get those pledges and your costs are minimal. SKA does not require the

hock meat/raffle ticket or huli huli chicken days in a hot parking lot or berate you for not participating in this or our other fun stuff. But ask the kids: the car washes are a blast, the triathlon is insane and the Lappert’s Ice Cream booth is beyond insane. The awards banquet and party at the

Hyatt December 3rd? MEGA! All of it packed into our regular lives. Well kindaregulah. Water Polo is going off. Ocean swimming titles. State titles and near titles coming in droves this year. Bronzies

are swimming off the charts. Roll on... Check out the fall schedule below.

(Tidbit: I am working on a SKA kids day away from the pool and if it works in our favor no one will ever forget it... Jinx?!

SKA NEWS

SKA Senior Swimmers Recognized for a Great Year of Record setting Swims

The 2009-2010 swim season officially ended at the LC championships in July where Swim Kauai Aquatics swimmers came away with multiple medals and several state titles. (See August Newsplash) In just a couple of years Coach Billy has molded SKA into an outer island powerhouse and put teams on notice across the state. As a result of their achievements in the sport Anya Littlefield and Yasmine Ware were recently recognized by the Kauai County Council and received Certificates of Achievement signed by all the council members. They also got to be on TV! Anya was also featured in a September issue of Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd for outstanding effort at the July LC state meet. Not to be outdone Yasmine broke a long standing state record in the 50 backstroke as a 11-12 at 2009 SC Championships last December and has scored 7 titles with SKA to her credit as well as a zone championship back in ‘09 beating the be-who-zis out of college age swimmers as a 12 year old! Anya and Yasmine are Sectional qualified swimmers. OK now let’s see what our Seniors/Juniors/Goldies/Silvers and yes, you Bronzies can do this year! Last year is officially history.

Swim Kauai Aquatics is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization. We are a parent run swim program under the direction of a elected board of

directors and SKA holds board meetings the second Tuesday of every month at 6 pm at the YMCA. SKA is a Member of USA Swimming and

Hawaiian Swimming. If anyone wants to come and listen or has a comment or concern please let a board member know and we will put your

item on on the agenda. If it’s no big deal, just call one of us on the phone and we will try to answer your questions. Coaching concerns: make

an appointment with the coach. Understand that we are you and you are us.

Under!the USA Swimming umbrella there are different levels of involvement as well as entry points to the

sports.!! Listed below are the most common areas where your child can get involved with USA Swimming.

LEARN TO SWIM

Becoming!safe in the water and learning to swim are essential skills. Drowning is the second leading cause of

accidental death for children under the age of 14 in the United States. Many of those deaths might have been

prevented with swim lessons. Swimming lessons are a fun activity for kids of all ages and are often a great

entry point into swimming.! We support the YMCA learn to swim programs

AGE GROUP SWIMMING

Many children get their competitive start through a neighborhood swim team, local recreational team,

country club, school team or a USA Swimming club team.!At this level, swimmers learn and refine

swimming skills and begin to compete against their peers.

!SENIOR SWIMMING

As swimmers mature, the goals become a little bigger and they move into senior level swimming.! At this

level swimmers still refine skills, but training becomes more serious and is designed by professional coaches

to get athletes to peak performance!when they are physically and mentally prepared to do so. Athletes are still

part of the USA Swimming club system, but may also compete for a Jr. high, high school or college team

depending on their ages.

ELITE LEVEL SWIMMING

Some athletes have the talent, dedication, and commitment to reach the elite levels of the sport. They

compete at national and international level competitions and strive to make a national team to represent their

country in the Olympics or other international competitions. Elite swimmers in the United States come out of

the USA Swimming club system.
