FROM FATHER MICHAEL
My Beloved in Christ,
I pray that you are all well and that your summer was enjoyable and restful. May this New Ecclesiastical Year bring to you and to our entire Community many Blessings.
Every day I receive several e-mails, some are important and some not so important. I am sure you ex-perience the same. I also receive e-mails that encourage me to “Pass It On” which, I must confess I rarely do. I sometimes find these e-mails silly or annoying but this time I’m going to make an exception and I’m going to “Passing It On” because there’s truth in this one.
When you carry a Bible
the devil gets a headache.
When you open it, he collapses.
When he sees you read it he flees.
When you pass on this message to others
he will try to discourage you.
I just defeated him by doing so!!
Scripture is one of the greatest tools that God has given us. The Bible is a gift from God that enlightens and guides us on the road which leads us to salvation. The Word of Holy Scripture continually protects and nurture us. These beautiful Words bring us closer to Christ and His truth.
Satan despises Scripture, he loathes the Word of God and he runs from the truth of scripture. The reason being is that the Word of Scripture exposes him as a fraud and destroys his false power. Satan is the “master of confusion and doubt”. He attempts to manipulate the Lord’s truth and works vigorously to place many doubts in our hearts. Satan cannot refute the truth of Christ, he can only try to remove the sting from the truth. The Lord’s Crucifixion and Resurrection conquered Satan’s power. The only power Satan has is the power that we give him when we ignore the Word of God. We must understand that he does not have power over us, he cannot force us to follow him, if we follow him then it is done voluntarily.
Scripture is the “Key to Paradise” the key which we all have in our hearts as Baptized Christians. We need to read and follow the Bible to the best of our ability so that we can live free from evil. By reading scripture daily we begin to understand the meaning of the Lord’s written word. We have before us the knowledge and understanding of Christ which is revealed to us daily. Scripture is given to us so that we can live freely in His Light which guides and comfort us.
Do not be a stranger to the Bible or let the Bible be strange to you, the Bible is far from being foreign to the World. Several years ago, I read; “Nothing can stop the Bible. It is useless to call it the World’s “Best Seller” though it is, because that term implies comparison – and there is nothing else that even remotely compares with the Bible in popular circulation. It is the greatest Book that the world has ever seen. It is estimated that there are over 200,000,000 printed copies of the Bible. Placed end to end they would make a line 17,000 miles long”. As of Octo-ber 2017, the full Bible has been translated into 670 languages, the New Testament alone into 1,521 languages and Bible portions or stories into 1,121 other languages.
Let us connect or again reconnect with the Bible. The Bible will protect and guide you, all you need to do is open it and read it. The Lord’s Word comforts and Blesses you if you give it a chance.
In His Service,
+Father Michael

PRESIDENT’S CORNER
Dear Parishioners, On behalf of Father Michael, and the Parish Council, I hope that you and your families had a safe, enjoyable and relaxing summer. We welcome you all back as we begin our new ecclesiastical year. To our youth of all ages, we wish you a fruitful and successful up-coming school year. During the summer months, your Parish Council has continued to be proactive in identifying and addressing the on-going needs of our church. As you may have seen, the ceilings have been repaired, and the painting of the church has been completed. The Parish Council concerned with the turbulent and uncertain times we all live in, has deemed it necessary and appropriate for a camera surveillance system to be installed in the church adding an additional layer of security for our stewards and their families. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Bill Alexopoulos, Michael Babanikas, Nick Palantzas, George Panagoulopoulos, Ilias Potsis and Adam Zouroulidis for the hard work we all put into seeing this project to its conclusion. The cost of the surveillance equipment was $2,000.00. The price to run the wires and install the cameras would have been another $5,000.00, but thanks to the time and talents of the above mentioned individuals, the church was able to save this $5,000.00 cost. I’m sure you would agree that this is true stewardship at its best. I am certain as Stewards of our parish we take pride in these recent improvements which in turn will provide long-term benefits for all of us as a community. Your ongoing support and commitment to our church and faith has allowed for these necessary pro-jects to become a reality. Fr. Michael, the Parish Council and I thank you for your ongoing support and generosity. Currently, we are reaching out to our family of 350 Stewards for your continued financial assistance. Please consider making a separate donation of $100.00 to our maintenance reserve account. With 100% participation we can off-set these small but necessary expenses that carried a cost of $30,000.00 for the ceiling repairs and painting of the Church proper and the surveillance camera system. I would also like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to Rocky Savas, and The Savas Trust, for their most recent donation of $15,650.00 which has been earmarked for the ongoing needs of our church. The Savas Trust makes yearly donations from the interest earned from the account they manage for the church, and this year’s was one of the highest received to date.
Back on June 25, 2018, we had our church’s Golf Tournament. I would like to congratulate Nick Palantzas, and the entire Golf committee for running such a great tournament that was enjoyed by over 100 golfers. We are also truly appreciative and grateful to the numerous and generous sponsors which played a huge part in this most successful event that allowed us to raise over $19,500.00 in profits for our church. As you can see, together we are making positive strides in beautifying, preserving, and strengthening our church. Our biggest and most important fundraiser of the year is our four (4) day food festival. This year it will be held on Thursday September 20, 2018 through Sunday September 23, 2018. It is our hope that ALL of you, the Stewards of our church will commit some of your time and talents to help us make this year’s Food Festival a huge success. Over the summer months much thought, effort and planning has been put in by our festival Chairman Jim Mihos and the 4 co-captains of our festival committees to assure that this year's event will be even MORE enjoyable, profitable and memorable. A special thank you goes out in advance to Jim Mihos, George Alexis, Tulla Giannaros, Liz Karolemeas and George Yiotopoulos and our family of volunteers for all their hard work for what will surely be a great four (4 ) day festival. Needless to say, we cannot be successful without your assistance. I encourage all of you, young and old alike, to come forward and join our family of volunteers in Christian fellowship especially during our upcoming festival. “ Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” ~ Colossians 3:23 ~ Respectfully yours, Nicholas H. Babanikas Parish Council President

the special table that will be reserved for our
Veterans and stop by and introduce yourselves.
In the coming months, the Board looks forward
to fulfilling the mission of Philoptochos with
your help and support. Please take a look at
the calendar for our upcoming events.
Hopefully you can join us at our first meeting
