Fifth Sunday Offering for UM Children’s Home
Mr. Randy Coy with UM Children’s Home
will deliver the message in Pastor
Knipp’s absence this morning.
“Always Work to Be Done”
The scaffolding has been taken down and the most
recent round of work on the exterior of the church
will soon be drawing to a close. This batch has, or
will soon see, a portion of our brick exterior tied
into the building with a gable, some tuck pointing
and the application of water sealer to a significant
portion of the front and Fifth Street side of the
church.
The work is not complete. It never really is.
Soon work will begin to replace an air conditioning
unit. The windows and exterior doors are in seri-
ous need of painting. Late summer/early fall will
see Shelby County’s Fiscal Court repair portions of
their sidewalk which have been channeling water
toward our facility and we will join their efforts and
repair and replace some portions of our concrete
that tie into the sidewalk (at our own expense of
course).
There’s always something to do.
The same is true in our spiritual journeys. Our life
of faith is never totally complete. There is always
more for God’s Holy Spirit to do in and through us.
Some aspect of our Christian character is in need of
transformation, renovation and sanctification.
I am more than happy to have a conversation with
you about either the work being done at the church
or the work that God is doing in your journey.
Remember, I’m a fellow pilgrim on the path myself
so be patient with me even if I don’t have all the
answers. After all, I’m a work in progress too.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Willard

Centenary Family;
How does one express gratitude? How can “Thank You,” ever feel like enough?
Since the beginning, Centenary felt like home. Always welcoming, always loving.
Almost like a marriage, our relationship with Centenary has been strong — in faith,
in communication, in fellowship — through the good times and the bad, in sickness
and in health, for richer and for poorer. Our lives ever intertwined.
With great humility I say; “Thank You,” for ALL of you! Singing carols, lawn and
tree care, transportation, utilities, food, cards, phone calls, hospital and home vis-
its, funeral expenses, and most importantly — fellowship and prayer — All of which
was offered without asking.
The people of God’s church have truly been the hands, feet and heart of God — in
our lives.
With sincere appreciation and joyous awe.
Kate Raisor and Family
Centenary Family:
There are no words to express how thankful we are for our church family. You have held us up in prayer, put your arms around us, hugged us, cried with us, laughed with us, fed us, been there for us, sent cards and flowers, and called us. We have felt the love; God’s and yours. It is what has enabled us to get through the last three weeks.
Thank you to Pastor Willard, he arrived at our house within the hour and Matt Bell was not far behind. Later in the day the food began arriving, along with many calls and visits.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You are the best church family anyone could have.
With Love,
The Stovall Family
THANKS
I want to thank everyone who took part in the Igleheart & Newton Window Dedication Ceremony on June 12, 2016.
We all had a great time of fellowship together with plenty of food to go around! A special thank you to all of the ladies who made this possible.
Many of you did not know, but Centenary UMC was James home church. He attended here until the family moved away in 1952. We came back in July 2007.
Finally, a thank you to Whitie Gray for his incredible skills at designing and making the windows for all future generations at Centenary to enjoy.
Thank You,
Lois G. Newton.
Dear Centenary Family,
Thank you so much for the kind words, thoughts, and prayers during my Mom’s (Jane Nelson) illness and passing. You brought a
great deal of comfort to my Father (Tom Nelson) during their difficult time.
On behalf of my Dad and our whole family THANK YOU.
Mrs. Christina Olsson
Dear Centenary Family,
Thank you so much for your support during my illness. Your cards, food, mowing the lawn, visits and
ongoing prayers have helped us through a most difficult time.
Mark & Judy Knowles
How do you view God?
In America’s Four Gods: What We Say About God — and What That Says About Us, Baylor University professors Paul Froese and Christopher Bader examine research into Americans’ perceptions of God.
According to research, 28 percent of Americans view God as authoritarian, 22 percent as benevolent, 21 percent as critical and 24 percent as distant. The remaining five percent are atheists or agnostics.
The authors say people’s views of God affect their attitudes toward everything from love and war to economics and natural disasters. Those with an authoritarian view, for example, believe God hands out punishments for misbehavior, while those with a benevolent view believe God is loving, not stern.
How do you view God, and what Bible verses back up that view? How does your view of God affect your faith and life?
Declaration of interdependence
Let it be declared, announced and hereby celebrated …
That all people everywhere are dependent upon one another.
That everyone needs everyone else for freedom, life, love and happiness.
That all things in the natural order are dependent upon every-thing else.
That our little planet and all the planets and stars in the solar systems are in a state of mutual dependence upon one another.
That this universally shared dependence comes from God and is of God.
And that each individual part of this relationship has its own part to play its own destiny to fulfill in God’s plan.
Our Sympathy and Condolences to the following Centenary Families:
Tom Nelson at the passing of his wife, Jane Nelson on June 14, 2016.
Dave & Sarah Krauss & Family at the passing of Dave’s mother, Judith Arlene Krauss on June 18, 2016.
David & Trisha Hobbs and Family at the passing of David’s Father, Ronald Hobbs on June 26, 2016.
