DEBBIE’S DARING ADVENTURE The season of anticipation has begun in our waiting for Christmas. Long ago, the Hebrew people waited and looked for the coming of the Messiah. Children now count the days until they may open gifts. Adults are hurrying around in preparing for the day and they are longing for life to get back to routine—whatever that is.
It’s hard to wait. It’s even harder not to worry about what will be. Yet waiting and anticipating are essential elements in the journey of faith and the deepening of the spiritual life in Christ. In them, we are reminded that our lives are not in our control but in God’s loving and caring hands. We can’t hurry and prepare ourselves for God’s gifts of love and grace. We just receive them. So take a deep breath. Enjoy the gift of the moment—whatever it may be. Let God do what God does best—shower us with blessings of love and grace in the coming of the Christ child—Emmanuel, God with us!
God’s blessings in the waiting, Debbie
It is hard to believe that Christmas is upon us --- already! I really love this time of year. It is the only time of year that I tolerate cold weather and that not past Christmas. I think from Thanksgiving through Christmas day is long enough for winter. For some reason cold weather puts me in the mood to think about Christmas and what it means.
There are so many different ideas and thoughts behind this celebration that it gets a little confusing sometimes. We think of the virgin Mary, the shepherds, the wise men, Joseph, the baby Jesus, the star, and the list goes on. We also think of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with our families. Will there be enough presents? Will they be the right ones? How will the kids react? Will the grandparents be here? Hope the goose gets cooked. Hope the potatoes aren't lumpy. Hope my team wins the big game. Hope the baby doesn't spill her/his tray of food on the clean carpet.
And then there are the weeks leading up to Christmas. The busy stores. The kids in line to see Santa. Black Friday. The not so great bargains. The empty shelves by the time I get there. The crowds, the noise, the inconvenience - the whole mess of shopping! I hate it. Well, I don't hate it but wouldn't it be nice if we could just have Christmas?
I mean Christmas without all of the muss and fuss that seems to accompany it. Just Christmas. No frills, no hurry, no big Visa or Master Card bills later, just Christmas. Christmas music sung from the heart, families that gather for fellow-ship instead of gifts, a celebration of an amazing gift given by our God. Just Christmas.
That's our theme this Advent season - "Just Christmas". Come join us each Sunday as we strip away some of the trap-pings of Christmas and get to the reason we gather.
Just Christmas. What a wonderful thought.
Grace and Peace, Pete

2012 CHURCH CONFERENCE Please make plans to join us for the 2012 Church Conference on Sunday, December 9th, at 2:00 pm. We will gather in the Fellowship Hall with the other churches in our cluster for a time of worship. Following worship the churches will break into individual meetings to conduct their own church conferences. All members of the church are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting. In addition to approving the 2013 budget and leadership roster it is a time to re-flect on the work of the church in 2012 and look forward to the opportunities in 2013.

CHRISTMAS POINSETTIAS
I CORINTHIANS 13~ CHRISTMAS STYLE
By Sharon Jaynes
If I decorate my house perfectly with lovely plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights, and shiny glass balls, but do not show love to my family – I’m just another decorator.
If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals, and arranging a beautiful adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love To my family – it profits me nothing.
If I work at the soup kitchen carol I the nursing home, and give All that I have to charity, but do not show love to my Family – it profits me nothing.
If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties, and sing in the Choir’s cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.
Love stops the cooking to hug the child.
Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband.
Love is kind, though harried and tired.
Love doesn’t envy another home that has coordinated Christmas china and table lines.
Love doesn’t yell at the kids to get out of the way.
Love doesn’t give only to those who are able to give in return, But rejoices in giving to those who can’t.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.
Love never fails. Video games will break; pearl necklaces will be lost; golf clubs will rust. But giving the gift of love will endure.
