Last Saturday, the day before Palm Sunday, we delivered blessed palms to our parishioners in a unique way— drive through palm pick up! We’re grateful to those who were able to pass through the St. Odilia parking lot on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to the volunteers, our staff, the sunshine, and plenty of gloves to go around, it was a successful and joy-filled afternoon. To view the video of the blessing of the palms by Fr. Rask (previously recorded), go to the “Catholic Community of St. Odilia” YouTube channel.

Palm Sunday — we found a new way to distribute palms!

Jesus gave his Apostles authority to forgive sins in his name. Through this sacrament, we are really, truly forgiven by God Himself. We receive an outpouring of grace and strength to sin no

more and our relationship with Christ and his Body, the Church, are restored. ©LPi

Holy Week and Easter Online Mass Schedule

Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper Thursday, April 9 Online Mass at 7:30 p.m.

Celebration of the Lord's Passion Friday, April 10 Online at 7:30 p.m.

The Easter Vigil — The Stillness of Holy Saturday Saturday, April 11 Online at 7:30 p.m.

Please note: The Good Friday, 7:30 pm service will include some bilingual parts; 2nd reading and solemn intercessions. Refer to the worship aids available on the website

www.stodilia.org under “Worship”. Holy Thursday brings us the Last Supper. On Good Friday, we exalt the cross and commemorate the death of Jesus. On Easter Sunday, we celebrate! But what about the day in between? Between death and life, the time holds its breath. For the first disciples, Holy Saturday was a day of silence, sorrow, and waiting. But redemption is already begin-ning! Jesus descends to the dead and frees righteous souls awaiting eternal life. On our own Holy Saturdays, we too wait in silence. But it is not the silence of disappointment and confusion. It is the silence of anticipation. Soon and very soon, dawn will alight on the hori-zon, and the stone will be rolled back. Until then, we wait in stillness.

Easter Sunday — The Resurrection of the Lord Sunday, April 12 Online at 9:00 a.m. in English and Online at 11:00 a.m. Español

Triduum Liturgies

How is it different from regular Sunday Mass? (Please note our liturgies are modified due to the current

health crisis.)

The liturgies during Holy Week are unique and rich in symbolism. The Mass for Palm Sunday follows the pattern of the day 2,000 years ago when Jesus entered Jerusalem. It includes a Gospel reading outside the church building and the entrance of the priest into the sanctuary while the congregation waves palms.

The Holy Thursday Mass also follows the rhythm of the ancient Last Supper. The presider washes the feet of members of the congregation, like Jesus washed the feet of the disciples. After Mass, all remaining hosts are taken to an altar of repose, where adoration of the Blessed Sac-rament occurs late into the night. Parishioners can re-main like the disciples in Gethsemane, asked to “watch and pray.” (This year there will be no washing of feet or hands, or adoration of the blessed sacrament.)

On Good Friday, we celebrate another special liturgical service. Following the Liturgy of the Word, there is a communal reverencing of the cross. The intercessions are solemn and include prayers for many different groups of people, reminding us that Jesus’ passion is for the whole world. There is no Liturgy of the Eucharist. Hosts conse-crated on Holy Thursday are distributed, after which the tabernacle is empty. The tabernacle remains empty through Holy Saturday — just as Jesus departed from this earthly world in death — and we wait in hope for Easter Sunday! ©LPi

When does the Triduum begin and end?

The Easter Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and closes with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday.

The Easter Triduum

Holy Water – Drive through pick-up!

At the Easter Vigil, Saturday, April 11th, we will renew our baptismal promises and bless new Holy Water. Typically, the community is sprinkled with the new Holy Water during the Easter Season. Since we are not able to yet gather as a community, we would like to offer you a small, plastic bottle of the newly blessed water. We will be offering drive through pick-up, Saturday, April 18 from 10am – noon at the north church entrance, #1. Like we did for Palm pick-up, please remain in your vehicle and staff will hand you a Holy Water bottle.

-©LPi

LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD DIARIA

Ven a Cristo

¡Felices Pascuas! —Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS © LPi

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE

April 12, 2020—Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord

When we awoke this morning, we found ourselves blessed with another day. It is Easter Sunday. As that thought crossed our minds, did we find our-selves saying “so what” or “alleluia”? For many, today is truly a day of allelu-ia. For others, it is just another day of “so what.” Faith makes a huge differ-ence. It not only makes a difference in how we understand today and the significance of what we celebrate, it also makes a huge difference in terms of how we understand ourselves. Succeed, live well, be productive, find your niche, follow your dreams, make money, protect your social status, be politically correct, and keep your pref-erences to yourself are pretty good examples of the messages our secular life wants us to hear. In and of themselves, they don’t sound all that harmful. But when really examined, they are. The life of resurrection embodied in the Gospel tells us a much different story. Life keeps us busy. We are always connected, distracted, occupied, and working. For many of us, an agenda awaits us before we even start our day, and unfinished stuff is brought with us when we retire at night. Make the best of life and “find your own road to happiness are messages we all too easily believe. The “so what” response to the new life of resurrection is often the result of believing that life is only what I make it. What God has to say isn’t important to me securing my next raise. Sadly, we live as if the grave is the end. While we may give the wonder of heaven a blink now and then, its glory really doesn’t impress us or matter all that much. It’s all about the here and now and what I need to do today to get where I want to be tomorrow. We tend to put off considering the one signifi-cant “tomorrow” that will come the millisecond after we take our last breath. When that happens, will we want to be thinking “so what?” or “alleluia”? There is only one Jesus, one mission, and one resurrection. There is also only one of us. Have you ever pondered what one solitary, humble human life can do? Faith, not our world, tells us how special we are. We are not ro-bots. We are not replaceable. We have one shot. There are no do-overs. Love is at our core and unites us together as one with the God of love who so desperately wants us to be with Him forever. This may not match our sec-ular agenda, but it ought to make our true inner agenda leap for joy. There doesn’t need to be an end. I can live forever. Alleluia!
