mccsHH Issue #15

April 2015

Each April, MCCS Henderson Hall overflows with activities. It is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It’s also Month of the Military Child. To honor these very important observances, a variety of events are planned. We invite you to visit www.mccsHH.com/prevention.html to see the resources provided by Marine & Family Programs on these topics.

We are thrilled to announce that the annual Children’s Fair, a much-anticipated event each spring, has returned to our line-up of events. The fair was initially not planned for this year, but an effort to hold it rallied planners, and it is on for Saturday, April 25. Please see the back cover for details.

On this month’s cover is our gym manager demonstrating some of the competitive moves for the Maxed Out Wednesday competitions starting Wednesday, April 1. A complete list of these popular competitions planned through mid-August appears on page 4, and participants and spectators alike are welcome.

On Thursday, April 2, the annual spring Education & Career will take place in the Cpl Terry L. Smith Gymnasium. This is a chance for military-friendly schools and employ-ers to meet with potential students and employees. If you miss this one, plan to attend the fall fair on October 15.

In between our major events, we have lots of other activities in April. See the list be-low or visit our website for a comprehensive look at all things MCCS Henderson Hall.

APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH“Children Deserve to be Protected…

Know the Warning Signs. Help STOP Child Abuse before it happens.”

Children of all ages need a safe, secure and loving environment to do well. Positive parenting is an effective approach to raising children that emphasizes the positive. It involves creating a family environment that is loving, supportive, and predictable. This is important in raising healthy, well-adjusted children who have the skills and confidence they need to succeed at school and in their relationships with others. Join us to learn more about how you can utilize positive parenting techniques with your children.

Brown Bag Lunch Parenting Seminars11:45 AM – 12:45 PM

Bldg. 12 Conference Room

One of the most important tasks of parenthood is helping children learn to deal with their emotions. All children experience periods of stress in their lives and need the emotional skills to deal with it. Children’s emotional resilience, or ability to cope with their feelings, is important in their long-term happiness, well-being and success in life. Join us to learn about the six key skills involved in emotional resilience and how you can teach these to your child.
