Teachers, students, and families have been sharing photos of various learning activitiesthat are going on at home.

Child’s Voice sends best wishes for health and safety to our students and families, community partners, and supporters. Because of you, we see wonderful things happenevery day with Child’s Voice students, and this unusual time is no exception.

Visionary Voices: Words from Dr. Michele

Child’s Voice has dedicated this year to reviewingour program’s Culture. The staff has been workingon revamping and examining what we do and whywe do it. It has been a fun time. Yes, a bit stressfulat times, but well worth the work.

We moved the Culture question to the Board ofDirectors. From their discussion we gathered inputfrom all staff and directors to narrow down what wedo and why. The "why" were identified as Child’sVoice's VALUES.

Good News: Staff Take on New Roles

The Child's Voice staff has been keeping in touch via (many) Zoom chats, but since wework closely on a daily basis, we miss each other. However, we have recently addedsome team members who are making sure our kiddos and families get the besteducational experience possible.

Reynaldo Dumas is our new Stewardship & Events Associate. He will be in charge of gift processing, giving management, andfundraising events. (He's been a great co-worker even though hewas in the Child's Voice office all of one day -- his first day wasMarch 16!)

Andrew Lavin was hired as our Billing Coordinator for EarlyIntervention and Audiology, serving as a link between Child’s Voice, private and government insurance plans, and state fundingagencies.

Alexia Herrera is our Early Intervention and Audiology Assistant. She coordinates family appointments for hearing tests and otheraudiology services as well as visits to the EI program.

And while we are sad to say goodbye to Melissa Lundt, ourSpecial Services/Mainstream Coordinator, who is relocatingwith her family, we are delighted that Carrie Jackiewicz willbe taking on this role. Ms. Carrie, currently a PI teacher, hasbeen with Child's Voice since 1997. She was actually ourfirst Mainstream Coordinator, so we are thrilled that she isreturning to that role.

Feeling Great About These Bandz

The Illinois State Board of Education's Resource Center website featured Child's Voice'suse of Feeling Bandz as a way to promote social-skills lessons for students who are deafor hard of hearing.

Students put a "feeling" card on their headband and other students act out the feeling. Thestudent wearing the headband has to guess what the emotion is.

"This is a super easy and fun activity that you could do as a family to expand vocabularyand practice noticing the physical cues of emotions," says our School Counselor MelissaHyder.
