As menoned at the feast of the Bapsm of our Lord, it is not clear whom the inspired writer had in mind when he composed these four songs describing the ideal Servant (Son) of God. Is he a collecve person: Israel, Gods people? Is he a king of the past or the Messiah (anointed king) to come? In any case, the Chrisan community applied these hymns very early to Jesus and they are used throughout Holy Week as a beauful commentary on the passion narraves. Indeed, the Son of Man [Jesus] did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ran- som for many(Mt 20:28). 2nd Reading Phil 2:6-11 [ Humility] This text is actually a Christ hymn, sung in church. It beaufully describes our Lords utmost humiliaon, which he suffered on the cross. By being obedient, he made up for our sinful disobedience. But this hymn sings also of Christs exal- taon by the Father. Meditang on the Lords suffering and death, as Chrisans do during Holy Week, we should keep both sides of the Christ events in mind. It is suffering and death that actually constutes a passage to exaltaon. Good Friday and Easter belong together even in our lives! April 5, 2020 MASS READING RELFECTION Rev. Sergio Robles, C.R.
