The National Catholic Committee on Scouting annu-ally offers $20,000 in scholarships through the Em-mett J Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship. This past year has been challenging for those involved in Cath-olic Scouting. You may be wondering, especially this year, “Do I make a difference?” The answer is a re-sounding, “YES”! Many scholarship applicants have mentioned how Catholic Scouting has made an im-pact on their lives. Here’s what one of the Doerr Scholarship recipients had to say…

“The Ad Altare Dei program involved my faith in Boy Scouts and taught me a way to live my life devot-ed to honoring God while growing up doing all the things that boys love. My Ad Altare Dei mentor, Ma-ria Talamo, was the most influential person in my Catholic faith formation and encouraged me by showing me where both the church and BSA program promotes scouts to be morally straight and rever-ent.” - Brent Schaefer, Diocese of Austin, NCCS Scholarship Recipient

You have another opportunity to make a difference in a young Scout’s life by encouraging those that meet the eligibility requirements to apply for the Em-mett J Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship. Seven scholarships are being awarded again this year, with $5,000 for first-place, $4,000 for second-place, $3,000 for third, plus four additional $2,000 scholarships. Recently, we collaborated with Joseph Barone, NCCS Training Committee Member, and owner of A Fool for Learning, LLC, to design a short video presentation about the Emmett J Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship. We hope you will take time to watch it, “Like” it, and send it to your unit leadership and those involved in Catholic Scouting. Don’t wait until Scouts are seniors in high school. Get them started now by encouraging them to earn their religious emblems and become involved in-service opportunities. Through the short video you will discover the answers to these questions...

What is the Emmett J Doerr Scholarship?

Who is eligible? How is the application judged? Who was Emmett J Doerr?

Where to obtain more information?

Link: https://youtu.be/bsqxB3UjysM For complete eligibility requirements and applications go to the NCCS Website at http://nccs-bsa.org/index.php/college-scholarship . Due to the unusual circumstances of this past year, we have extended the deadline to March 31st, 2021. Thank you for helping make these scholarships possible through your guidance and support of Catholic Scout-ing.

Yours in Catholic Scouting,

Julie Doerr, NCCS Scholarship Chair

Stations of the Cross at the Abortion Clinic

on Good Friday

Through His Holy Passion, Our Lord united Himself with all the victims of suffering in this life. None suffer more inno-cently than children in the womb whose lives are taken by abortion. None suffer more deeply than their mothers, who carry such a burden of guilt and shame.

On Good Friday we remember all the victims of abortion—the children lost, the mothers wounded, the communities blighted—in a solemn, ecumenical prayer service:

Event: Way of the Cross for Victims of Abortion

When: Friday, April 2, 2021 at 7:30 am

Where: The West End Woman’s Center

5915 Tyrone Rd. Reno, NV

More Info: Call Tom Murphy 775-453-2436 or email: [email protected]

Join us as we pray for healing for the victims of abortion and for a final end to this injustice in our land.

Please remember to wear a mask and social distance.
