Community Builders Group helps Butler County seniors with needed home support services

with other nonprofit agencies, gov-ernment entities and area businesses to provide property management, construction services and accessibil-ity solutions for individuals and nonprofit organizations.

“Then four years later, NDC formed the Community Builders Group to provide the community with affordable com-mercial and residential construction, services and property maintenance,” says Doug Cannon, director of projects and facilities. “We recognized a need for in-home services among the senior population so we began working with the Butler County Area Agency on Ag-ing in June 2014.”

As a Butler County AoA service pro-vider, Community Builders Group provides Home Support Services to eligible adults ages 60 and older who reside in Butler County. To determine eligibility, individuals must contact the Butler County Area Agency on Aging for an assessment of services. An Area Agency on Aging care manager works with each individual to determine the needed services then develops a care plan for how often the services will be provided. Community Builders Group does not charge seniors for these ser-vices; however, a co-payment through the AoA for some services may apply.

“Our Home Support Service workers assist seniors who need some help in keeping up with housekeeping,” explains Roxann Tyger, director of operations. Workers perform tasks like washing dishes, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, washing windows, laundry, grocery shopping and other general cleaning tasks in the home.

Continued from page 1

This year, Community Builders Group again extended its service offerings to address other types of help that are greatly needed: snow shoveling, lawn care, and home modifications and re-pairs to ensure accessibility and safety.

The Community Builders Group also provides services to the general public on a private pay basis. These services include the home support services along with general construction and home repairs; demolition; remodeling, reno-vation and rehabilitation; and multi-unit

and residential property maintenance, repair and turnover services.

Community Builders Group is fully licensed and insured and is an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm. It is a regis-tered contractor in Pennsylvania and the staff includes a licensed master plumber. To enroll in the Community Builders Group program, call the Butler County Area Agency on Aging at (724) 282-3008 or (888) 367-2434. To learn more, visit www.ndcinfo.org or call (724) 431-3754.

Community Builders Group can help seniors with:

2 Home support services such as cleaning, laundry and grocery shopping

2 Snow shoveling, including clearing snow from sidewalks, steps and driveways

2 Lawn mowing

2 Home repairs and modifications for accessibility or safety, such as building ramps and installing grab bars

Courtney helps Ralph with in-home tasks like laundry.

Butler County Area Agency on Aging Senior Express

By Brittany Buzzelli Community Liaison/APPRISE Coordinator Butler County Area Agency on Aging For Butler County Senior News

Application forms for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program are now available for eligible residents to begin claiming

on property taxes or rent paid in 2014.

The rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanian’s age 65 and older, widows and widowers age 50 and older and disabled persons over the age of 18. The income limit for the program is $35,000 annually for homeowners and up to $15,000 annually for renters, with half of Social Security income excluded.

The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for qualifying home owners can boost rebates to $975.

Property Tax/Rent Rebate Income Eligibility:

Homeowners: Income Maximum Standard Rebate

$0 to $8,000 $650

$8,001 to $15,000 $500

$15,001 to $18,000 $300

$18,001 to $35,000 $250

Renters: $0 to $8,000 $650

$8,001 to $15,000 $500

Each resident who prepared and filed a paper application last year, and did not utilize computer software to do so, should have received a 2014 application form by February 30. Renters who prepared claims last year using computer software rather than the PA-1000 booklet received letters by mail reminding the resident to apply for a 2014 rebate, and providing them with two copies of the PA-1000 Rent Certifi-cate and Rent Rebate application.

Pennsylvania property tax/rent rebate program applications now available

Applications are also available online at www.revenue.state.pa.us or by calling (888) 222-9190.

Older adults must reapply for rebates every year because rebates are based on annual income and property taxes or rent paid each year.

It costs nothing to apply for a rebate. Application forms and assistance are available at no cost from the Department of Revenue district officers, state legislators’ offices and locally through the Butler County Area Agency on Aging (Butler County AoA).

The Butler County AoA will be hosting mobile application sites at various county senior centers, as well as in-office at their main location at 111 Sunnyview Circle in Butler.

It is recommended that interested applicants make an ap-pointment ahead of time by calling Butler County AoA at (724) 282-3008.

The deadline to apply for a rebate on property taxes or rent paid in 2014 is June 30, 2015. Rebates will be distributed beginning on July 1, as specified by law.

More than $297 million in property tax and rent rebates have been sent to more than 587,000 homeowners and renters across the state for taxes and rent paid in 2013.

The department wants all eligible Pennsylvanian’s to apply for and receive rebates through this program, but cautions that fraudulent or falsified rebate claims will result in a denial of rebate.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery and revenue from slots gaming. Since the program’s 1971 inception, older adults and adults with disabilities have received $5.4 billion in property tax and rent rebates.

Applying for Property Tax/Rent Rebate is easy. A burglar is in big trouble

A burglar has just made it into the house he’s intending ransacking, and he’s looking around for stuff to steal. All of a sudden, a little voice pipes up, “I can see you, and so can Jesus!” Startled, the burglar looks around the room. No one there at all, so he goes back to his business.

“I can see you, and so can Jesus!” The burglar jumps again, and takes a longer look around the room. Over in the cor-ner by the window, almost obscured by curtains, is a cage in which sits a parrot, who pipes up again, “I can see you, and so can Jesus!” “So what,” says the burglar, “you’re only a parrot!” To which the parrot replies, “Maybe, but Jesus is a rottweiler!”

A frog calls a psychic

Recently, the Psychic Hotline and Psychic Friends Network have launched hotlines for frogs. Here is the story of one frog and his discussing with his psychic.

A frog telephones the Psychic Hotline and is told, “You are going to meet a beautiful young girl who will want to know everything about you.” The frog says, “This is great! Will I meet her at a party, or what?”

“No,” says the psychic. “Next semester in her biology class.”
