LEE FLUORESCENT SLEEVES CONSIST OF A CLEAR SLEEVE WITH

A COLOUR INSERT.

The sleeves are made from a thermallystable, electrically insulating polycarbonate, whilst the colour inserts are made from highquality LEE lighting filter.

With over 200 coloured inserts to choosefrom, the LEE range of fluorescent sleevesgives you more choice than ever for bothinterior and exterior lighting projects.Samples of all the colours available areshown in this binder.

The sleeves can be used on T5, T8 and T12tubes and are available in the followingstandard lengths 0.61m (2’), 1.22m (4’),1.53m (5’) and 2.44m (8’). Custom lengthsare also available on request.

It is recommended that you contact us ifintending to use sleeves on T5 tubes, asyour colour choice and tube wattage willdetermine if a sleeve is suitable. The sleevesare not recommended for use on highoutput T5 tubes, as the extreme heat ateither end of the tube can cause the filterto discolour.

The ends of each sleeve have a clear endcap; these caps fix the sleeve to thefluorescent tube and help with air flowaround the tube.

It is recommended that you always use thesupplied end caps, as without them thesleeve may come into direct contact withthe tube.

Due to the nature of the dyestuffs used, the coloured inserts inside the sleeve willfade over a period of time. This fading canbe reduced dramatically with the additionof a barrier in the form of a UV insert. These inserts can extend the life of a colour significantly.

When ordering fluorescent sleeves werecommend you contact LEE Filters todiscuss your exact requirements.

Pre-assembled Sleeves

You choose the colour and leave the rest tous. Your chosen colour is inserted into thesleeve and delivered to you ready to install.

If you require a large number of sleevesof the same colour, rather than usingcolour inserts we will dye the polycarbonatesleeves for you.

This enables us to get the sleeves to you alot quicker. This service can be offered onorders of 1500 sleeves or more.

Self-assembly Sleeves

Alternatively you can assemble the insertand sleeve yourself. We supply the clearpolycarbonate sleeve and a Quick Roll ofyour chosen colour and you assemble themyourself. (See diagram on next page onhow to assemble)

THE SLEEVES CAN BE SUPPLIED IN TWO WAYS, PRE-ASSEMBLED

Changing Colours with Quick Rolls

When a colour needs changing, you canreplace it easily using a Quick Roll. QuickRolls are rolls of filter pre-cut to the widthof either a T5, T8 or T12 sleeve. Each roll is7.62m (25’) long.

Once you have chosen your replacementcolour, simply unroll the length of thefluorescent sleeve required from the QuickRoll, cut it off the roll and re-insert it intoyour existing sleeve. It’s as easy as that!

T5 T8 T12

You require a clearsleeve, a Quick Rollof colour, two endcaps, a knife and arod / pole to stuffthe sleeve.

Stage 1Unwind the roll ofgel to the length ofthe sleeve.

Stage 2Cut the gel slightlylonger than thelength of the sleeve.

Stage 3Wrap the gel tightlyaround the rod / pole.

Stage 4Holding the gel tightlyaround the rod /polefeed it into one end ofthe sleeve, push therod / pole through thesleeve until it comesout the other end.

Stage 5Remove the rod /pole from the sleeve, leaving the gelinside the sleeve.

Stage 6Trim of any excessgel from the ends of the sleeve.

Stage 7Place end caps onboth ends of thesleeve.

Get creative with fluorescent lighting!

There are a number of different ways you can use coloured fluorescent sleeves creatively. An effect that works particulay well is a two-tone sleeve. This is where you have one colourat the front of the sleeve and another contrasting colour at the back within the same sleeve.

Below are some examples of how two-tone sleeves can work.

Coloured fluorescent sleeves can also beused to create different moods andatmospheres within a room. They workparticularly well in recessed fluorescentfittings where the tube can not be seen.

In the example below a recessedfluorescent tube positioned above afireplace has been coloured. Adding colourto the room creates a different atmosphereeach time.

The look of a room can be altered bysimply changing the colour insert inside thesleeve; allowing you to create a number ofdifferent looks quick and easily.

No Diffusion 1 2

Another effect that works well with coloured fluorescent sleeves is the addition of somediffusion in front of the sleeves. The diffusion softens the light giving a soft, subtle blendof colours.

In the example below a roll of LEE 216 White Diffusion was placed in front of threecoloured fluorescent sleeves. The distance between the diffusion and the sleeves wasthen slightly increased for each image, the further the distance the more diffused thecolours become.

The distance between the diffusion andtubes determines the strength of thediffusion effect. The further apart thestronger the effect, the closer together theweaker the effect.

After a broad market survey the followingthemes emerged:

■ A selection of less saturated, subtlehues, as well as the usual “Rock andRoll” colours currently available.

■ Consistent colours.

■ A low cost way to select anddemonstrate colour choice to ownersand architects.

Once a colour palette was chosen thatincluded a selection of subtle less saturatedcolours, they were then produced as adichroic coating. This coating givesspectacularly clear and pure colours thatwill not fade and allows consistentrepeatable colours time and time again.

Samples of these colours can be found onthe following page*. Polyester samplesallow you to test colours on a project beforepurchasing the glass filters. Due to thedifferent nature of the two materials(dichroic glass v polyester), it is impossible toget an exact colour match, however usingour many years of experience you can besure they are the best match available. Thefull range of polyester samples are availablein a free swatch book 75mm x 95mm andlarger individual sample sheets of polyestercan also be purchased, contact LEE Filters forfurther details.

*If your binder contains glass samples then youwill see true representations of the colours.

About our Dichroic Glass

Tel: +44 (0)1264 366245 email: [email protected] www.leefilters.com

LEE Filters’ Glass Dichroic filters aremanufactured by the vacuum deposition oflayers of thin metal films onto a substrateof borofloat glass. We use borofloat glassas it has better overall thermalcharacteristics than tempered soda-limeglass. The dichroic coating has beendesigned specifically to meet the demandsof the lighting industry and shouldwithstand temperatures up to 371°C. Theglass is available in two thicknesses, 1.7mmand 3.3mm.

Care should be taken when using the filtersin exterior applications. Any glass willeventually be damaged in environments ofextreme thermal shock.

Unframed Glass

Unframed glass dichroic filters are availablein a number of sizes. For outdoorapplications, a safety mesh is available asan option to help reduce damage fromthermal shock.

■ MR16 & PAR16 (49mm diameter) heldin stock.

■ Larger sizes and shapes are alsoavailable, please contact LEE Filters fora quotation.

Framed Glass

LEE Filters have developed frames for themost popular size lighting fixtures in theentertainment, architectural and theatricalindustries.

■ Source Four (15.8cm square)

■ Source Four PAR (19cm square)

■ PAR 64 (25.4cm square)

The lightweight aluminium frames have aninnovative silicone gasket that completelysurrounds the glass. For outdoor applications,a safety mesh is available as an option tohelp reduce damage from thermal shock.

Please note that the LEE Frame aperture for theSource Four PAR is slightly undersized and mayreduce light output in wide beam fixtures. Theframe design may also limit use with top hats orbarn doors, depending on the space allowed inthe colour frame slot.

Care and cleaning

Clean with a soft cloth or tissue and anon-abrasive cleaner. Do not submerge thefilter, and do not use cleaning productsthat will leave a residue. Dry the filtercompletely before reinstalling it.

While the coating can withstandtemperatures up to 371°C, the normaloperating temperature of borofloat glass is230°C and the extreme operatingtemperature is 490°C. Operating the glasscolour filter continuously at temperaturesexceeding 260°C may affect the life of thefilter, as the glass will become moresusceptible to damage from thermal shock.
