What is Asset Management?

managing the technical and information infrastructure e.g. contracts, responsibilities, locations,

reporting, ...

tracking and analyzing the “technology base”

basis for planning, predicting and costing

Is Asset Management necessary for DESY?

Each division has its „assets“ magnets, cavities, computers, software, ...

Common questions according to devices Who is the contact person? What is the status or history? Who has experience? Where can I get information?

Is Asset Management necessary for DESY?

local databases exist to manage devices, e.g. counting software licenses (IT division) magnet alignment, power cabling, ...

(accelerator division) maintaining fire extinguishers (safety division)

divisions need to relate/integrate their information, e.g. magnet alignment, location, supplies, ...

Data Structure

assets are organized into categories and subcategories

assets can be components of or connected with other assets

assets may have features (e.g. current, RAM, pressure)

assets may have related documents (files or hyperlinks)

Conclusion

The current situation shows the necessity of a central information repository.

The future focus of an Asset Management System is to support and maintain the technical equipment for the planned TESLA project cavities, magnets and other devices
