OVERVIEW OF RELIANCE GAMES:

Reliance Games is the independent mobile gaming division of Reliance Entertainment Group whose subsidiaries include entities like Dreamworks SKG, IM Global and Codemasters. Currently operating four studios worldwide, the company has a strong, multi-disciplinary, and cross-skilled team spanning across the US, UK, Korea, Malaysia and India. The current roster of hit games includes Hollywood movie based games like Real Steel, Hunger Games, Pacific Rim, After Earth, Total Recall, F1 2011 among others. The latest release includes high octane action games like Drones: Shadow Strike and Ultimate Robot Fighting. Reliance Games' portfolio presently includes more than 600 games for over 2000 devices across various operating systems like the iOS, Android, Windows. Reliance Games has over 55 Million users globally across its iOS and Android Portfolio.  On the Nokia store, the collective Reliance Games titles have surpassed over 200 million downloads.

Reliance Big Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, part of the ADAG Reliance group, has announced that Reliance Games, its international mobile gaming business, in a bid to expand its global presence has made a strategic entry into the key gaming destinations in the world – Japan and Korea. The company has announced the acquisition of a mobile game development and publishing company in Japan and a mobile game development studio in Korea, thereby augmenting its footprint in the global mobile gaming industry.   The recent ingress of Reliance Games into Japan and Korea will play a pivotal role in the company’s international roadmap. The Japanese and Korean business set-ups give Reliance Games direct access to the two largest mobile gaming markets known to the world. The company aims to adopt a two pronged approach for the new set-ups; while the Japanese and Korean facilities will develop IPs targeted to local consumers, they will in future also be responsible for R&D of multi-player mobile games for the western markets.

GLOBAL TRENDS:

The mobile games market has been growing extremely fast and is rapidly changing across different regions. The global mobile games market is expected to grow 27.3% annually to double in 2016 and reach $23.9 billion. This rise is not only due to the sudden rush of revenues from vast developing markets like India but also due to the continuing performance of markets like North America and Asia, which some had predicted to have reached saturation point. With 48% of the global revenue, the Asia-Pacific region is by far the biggest market for

mobile games. Western & Eastern Europe are expected to grow fastest with Compound Annual Growth

(CAGR) rates of over 33% by 2016. Within the APAC region, China and South-East Asia boast comparable growth figures.

The number of Americans that play games on their smartphone, tablet or iPod Touch has crossed the 100 mn mark, a year-on-year increase of 35%. Europe shows a growth of 5%, totaling 70 mn gamers for seven key territories.

Men slightly outnumber women in the US (52%) as well as in key European countries (55%).

The United States has more young (15 – 18) and older-aged (45+) gamers than Korea and China. In China, smartphone penetration is most prevalent among consumers aged 16 - 34 whereas in the United States, consumers ages 45 – 54 comprise a slightly higher percentage of smartphone usage than other age demographics.

In India, 58% of the mobile users prefer to play games rather than use other apps. With growth in income and purchasing power of rural people, the scope of mobile gaming has increased in rural areas as well.

ANDROID GAMING VS IOS GAMING PLATFORM:

Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS are the two most widely used mobile gaming platforms. An average android gamer spends 37 minutes a day playing on their smartphone or tablet, according to research from analytics firm Flurry. Android gamers in the US are the keenest in the world, averaging 51.8 minutes of daily game play. For now, Apple remains the top dog in terms of mobile gaming income, edging out a predicted revenue total of $3 billion dollars for Google Play in 2014.

It can be seen that both platforms make most of their gaming revenue from free-to-play games. The difference is that iOS still makes 7 percent of its revenue from premium-priced apps (mostly games) and another 7 percent from paid apps. On Android, those numbers are only 4% and 2% respectively.Though various genres of games are available, Arcade & Action and Casual games demand the largest amount of attention among the players. Brain & Puzzle games make the list to a lesser extent, much the same as Cards & Casino games. Surprisingly, the least popular genre of game is Sports –a category usually well represented by console gamers. The same preferences are held in India as well.

Given the profitability in terms of revenue as well as large number of users across the globe, Android and iOS turn out to be the best platforms for Reliance to come out with new game designs. They are the perfect medium through which Reliance can reach large number of players and make huge profits in shorter time period. For instance, more than 50 million downloads took place across Android and iOS for the Real Steel franchise. When Hunger Games was launched, three to four million downloads took place on the first day itself.Though they publish games worldwide their biggest markets are Europe and U.S. India is a unique market however the constraining factor is internet speed. The gaming genres launched by Reliance are in alignment with the preference of gamers across the globe. Since Reliance believes in discovery their game design, development cycle, app size, everything is different from a global point of view. This can give an edge to them as gamers are looking for new avenues.
