In Teverga, Lena and Quirós, three regions in the south of Asturias. it’s 326.3 km2 It is a mountainous landcape. Mount Peña ubiña (2.400m), the second highest mountain in Asturias, belongs to this area. There is a great amount of beech trees, and also oak woods and birch trees. The most characteristic animals are the bear, otter, grouse (urogallo), deer, wolf, fox, badger, otter, eagle, falcon or wild board.

In the South East of Asturias, it has 205.33km 2. It is a mountainous area and it has also impressive gorges.

The most important river is Sella River and some of its tributaries.

This natural park has lots of oak trees, birch trees, ash trees, chestnut trees and maple trees, but the most important is the beech tree. There are also many pastures.

The most representative fauna is the brown bear, hare, wild boar, deer, roe deer, vulture, eagle, grouse, partridge and goshawk.

It has 372.6km2. It is placed in the south of Asturias, and it is characterised by its different landscapes: glaciers or cirques, caves, pastures, forests…

La riqueza ambiental del Parque de Redes se manifiesta en una multitud de paisajes y

contrastes. Pueden observarse formaciones de origen glaciar, como morrenas o circos,

formas kársticas en cuevas y lapiaces; amplios campos de pasto, montes y frondosas

masas boscosas. Redes cuenta con una superficie arbolada que ocupa el 40% del

territorio. Destacan cumbres como el Picu Torres, el Retriñón, la Peña' l Vientu, Cantu l'

Osu o el Tiatordos.

La acción de los ríos ha dado lugar a la aparición de valles abiertos que forman grandes

vegas en sus fondos o a los impresionantes desfiladeros de roca caliza, como el del río

Alba o el de los Arrudos.

Las vegas de Redes son de impresionante belleza. Aislada por los contrafuertes

montañosos, a 1.215 metros, se encuentra la vega de Brañagallones, donde el antiguo

albergue de cazadores se ha convertido en un hotel.

Fue declarado Reserva de la Biosfera en 2001.

The most common type of tree is the beech. There are also lots of bushes and Holly trees. The beech fruit is the food of many animals here.

There are many wolves in this area, as well as brown bears and deer. The grouse is also a common animal here. The landscape is kept thanks to the many reptiles and amphibians that live here.

Placed in the south west of Asturias, it has an extension of 291km2 that comprises five valleys. It is very common to see these valleys dotted with little huts called ‘Teitos’.

In this park there is a combination of deciduous forests, farming land and pasture.

There are more than 100 species of birds and the brown bear is a common inhabitant of this place.

PARQUE NATURAL FUENTES DEL NARCEA, DEGAÑA E IBIAS.

It is 555KM2, placed in the south west of Asturias. Within this park there is the Muniellos forest, a nature reserve.

River Narcea and its tributaries are full of salmon and troutes. This is an appreciated area for fishing and hunting.

Muniellos forest is the most important forest of this park. It has beech tree, yew tree, lime tree and oaks.

The brown bear and the grouse are the most representative animals

ANNEXE The students of C.P. poeta Juan Ochoa visited some green areas of Asturias and enjoyed themselves knowing about our beautiful natural paradise. Grades 1 and 2 went to La Senda del Oso (the bear’s path) and old mine railway surrounded by lush vegetation and steep mountains. It’s a rich area full of vegetation and animals like bears. Here live Paca and Tola, two brown bears rescued after a poacher hunt their mother.

JARDÍN BOTÁTICO DE GIJÓN (GIJÓN’S BOTANIC GARDENS)

Students of grade 3 and 4 visited the botanic Gardens of Gijón, to learn about the Atlantic forests.
