Dear Parents/Guardians;

Pembina Trails Voices (PTV) is an award winning choral program affiliated with the Pembina Trails School Division. If your child loves to sing, we would like to encourage you to think about having them audition for one of our choirs. There are opportunities for talented children of all ages to participate in this great program. 1. What is the Purpose of Pembina Trails Voices?

PTV offers a unique opportunity for vocal and musical development within a framework ofstimulating and challenging rehearsal and performance experiences;

PTV offers exceptional camp and tour opportunities for our older choirs.

2. Who can join the choir?

Students in K-1 are invited to apply for the un-auditioned “first-steps” program, NOVA.

Students in Grades 2 to Grade 12 who demonstrate a genuine interest in music, a love of singingand who are vocally and musically talented are encouraged to audition for the choir. As we are aprogram of the Pembina Trails School Division, please keep the following in mind:

o Students in grades 2 to 6 must be members of their school choir.o Students in grades 7 through grade 12 must be participants in their school music

program.o Students must be willing to commit to regular attendance and active participation at all

rehearsals, performances (PTV concerts, community concerts and festivals) and tours ifapplicable, for a period of one year.

3. If I am in High school, can I receive credit for the program?

Yes. PTV is approved as a credited High School course. Therefore, those choristers whosuccessfully complete the year and the course requirements will be given credit recognition fortheir work and achievements on their June transcript.

4. What is an “Audition”?

An audition is a simple assessment on one’s musical abilities. Through the audition process,conductors are able to determine the basic skill level of potential singers.

Every student wishing to join the choir must apply for an audition, which is held in either a schoolor other designated location.

Each prospective chorister, regardless of age, is asked to prepare a simple song of their ownchoosing (such as “O Canada”)

Each student is evaluated on the ability to sing in tune, read simple musical phrases, readrhythmic patterns, and to perform ear-training exercises.

5. Which choir is for my child?

Grade levels are used as rough guidelines for the composition of the various ensembles.Girls, Grades 2 – 3 Boys, Grades 2 – 4 Girls, Grades 4 – 5 Girls, Grades 5 – 8 Boys (unchanged voices) Grades 4 - 8 Girls, Grades 9 - 12

o Minnesingerso PTV Boys Training Choiro Choralierso Choraleo Ragazzi (PTV Boys)o Cantemus/PTV Singerso PTV Men /PTV Singers Changed Male Voices, Grades 9 - 12.

7. How much does the choir cost?The Pembina Trails School Division provides some funding for PTV covering some of the administrativecosts. The majority of our funding, however, comes from registration costs, concert ticket sales, andother fundraising initiatives. These fees cover such things as:

• Camp and touring costs for Chorale, Ragazzi (PTV Boys), Cantemus and PTV Men;

• All rentals of rehearsal facilities

• Uniform expenses and sheet music.

The fees listed for Minnesingers, PTV Boys Training Choir and Choraliers include uniform fee of $20.00 and the $75.00 fundraising fee.

8. What is required of parents of PTV choristers?

• Understandably, a program as large as PTV cannot operate without the dedicated support of theparent community, and PTV provides parents many opportunities to participate in the activities ofthe organization. Along with being enthusiastic and supportive of your chorister’s participation inPTV, please volunteer your time in an area of PTV’s activities.

• Parents must also purchase such items as are necessary to complete the formal and casualuniforms for your child’s ensemble.

10. How do I sign up?

• Be sure to read the attached “Request for Audition” form, fill in the required information, andreturn the form by Monday, April 22, 2019 to:

• Audition times and location will be sent in early May directly by phone, email or letter.

• Please arrive five minutes prior to their stated audition time.

• If the scheduled audition time is impossible for you, please call Ms. Christie at 488-1767 ext.1268to reschedule. However, understand that alternate times cannot be guaranteed.

• All prospective choristers will receive a letter notifying them of the audition results by Monday,June 3, 2019.

• Successful choristers will receive a registration package which must be completed and sent backto the Henlow Office by Friday, June 14, 2019.
