It's the same as "Feld"aufdem Feld - you're standing "on top of" the mowed field.indem Feld - you're standing "inside of" the field that'stallerthan you.
now with Strae:- Ich steheaufder Strae. (I'minthe street)- Ich gehedurchdie Straen. (I'm goingthroughthe streets)- Ich habe ein Geschftinder Strae. (My biz is situatedon the street/atorby the roadside.)- Ich geheaufdie Strae. (I'm going outintothe street[s])
Hope, it helps:If I'minthe street (aufder Strae), a car could arrive and knock me down.If I'mat the roadside(inder Strae), I live in a beautiful house and no car could knock me down.If I want to cross the street, I have to be "at the roadside(inder Strae), mostly in front of a biz", to get "inthe street (aufdie Strae) - if I don't care, I am knocked down!", so I canget to the other roadside. I'm still "inder Strae", not "aufder Strae" anymore.
Your explanation was great! So Ich binin der Strasse(How do you do the eszet?) dannach mchte ichauf die Strassegehen where die Autos sind in order to cross the street and reach the opposite pavement. So, when I crossed the streetich bin einmal in der Strasse (gegenber Strasse).Verstehst du??
Hmm... yes, but no.
I think this is the easiest explanation:
Auf der Straeisspecific. When you say "auf der Strae" you're sayingon top ofthe street. (Like Whodunit said, you could be hit by a car if you stood there.)
In der Straeisunspecific. When you say "in der Strae" you're sayingsomewhereoreverywherein the street.
Now Jades examples are very useful:
Ich wohneindieser Strasse =somewherein this streetInder Strasse ist ein Kino =somewherein this streetIndieser Strasse ist es gefhrlich =everywherein this street (bad neighborhood, you may get robbed, and that not only auf der Strae but also on the sidewalk)
Aufder Strasse ist viel los =on top ofthe streetViele Leute sindaufder Strasse =on top ofthe streetAufdieser Strasse ist es gefhrlich =on top ofthis street (crazy drivers/ bikers/ skaters, you may get hit by them)
So if you wanted to talk specifically about it, you would have to say:Ich bin auf der Straenseite. Danach mchte ich auf die Strae gehen, wo die Autos sind, um ber die Strae zu gehen und den gegenber liegenden Brgersteig zu erreichen.
And after you crossed the street you would be at the "Straenseite" again, but you wouldneversay "in der Strae" because you're being much toospecifichere.
I hope this was helpful.
