Prayer of the Faithful

We bring our prayers to God today, knowing that God will take pity and listen to our needs.

For the Church as we work to feed the hungry and spread the Good News throughout the world, let us pray to the Lord. For those who are oppressed and persecuted, for all who hunger and thirst for justice and freedom, and for an end to racist systems in our country, let us pray to the Lord. For those who work to assist and shelter those who are homeless, that they will be strengthened in their ministry, let us pray to the Lord. For those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, that they know the comfort of God’s love and our hope in the Resurrection, let us pray to the Lord. For our community as we reach out to serve those among our neighbors who are in need, especially during this time of recovery, let us pray to the Lord. For all those who are sick, for all who suffer from COVID-19, and for all who have died, let us pray to the Lord. For all the prayers that we hold in the silence of our hearts; for all our inten-tions spoken and unspoken, let us pray to the Lord.

6 Tháng 8— Lễ Hiển Dung

Cả ba Phúc Âm Nhất Lãm đều đề cập đến biến cố Hiển Dung (Mátthêu 17:1-8; Máccô 9:2-9; Luca 9:28-36).

Với một sự tương đồng đáng chú ý, cả ba đều kể lại biến cố này sau khi Phêrô tuyên xưng đức tin Ðức Giêsu

là Ðấng Cứu Thế và sau lần đầu tiên Ðức Giêsu nói về sự thống khổ và cái chết của Người. Sự hăng hái của

Phêrô trong việc dựng lều nơi hiển dung đưa ra giả sử rằng, biến cố đó xảy ra trong dịp Lễ Lều kéo dài một

tuần lễ trong mùa thu.

Mặc dù cả ba văn bản đều rất giống nhau, theo các học giả Kinh Thánh, thật khó để diễn lại cảm nghiệm của

các tông đồ, vì các Phúc Âm dựa rất nhiều vào Cựu Ước trong đoạn diễn tả cuộc gặp gỡ với Thiên Chúa ở núi

Sinai và những điều tiên tri về Con Người. Chắc chắn là Phêrô, Giacôbê và Gioan đã thoáng được nhìn thấy

thiên tính của Ðức Giêsu, nhưng ấn tượng ấy đủ mạnh để tạo nên sự sợ hãi in sâu trong tâm hồn họ. Một cảm

nghiệm như vậy không thể nào diễn tả được, do đó các ngài dùng cách diễn đạt thông thường trong kinh sách

để diễn tả. Và tất nhiên, Ðức Giêsu đã cảnh cáo cho họ biết, sự vinh hiển và sự thống khổ của Người liên hệ

với nhau một cách chặt chẽ -- đó là chủ đề mà Gioan lập đi lập lại trong Phúc Âm của ngài.

Truyền thống coi núi Tabor là nơi hiển dung. Ðầu tiên, trong thế kỷ thứ tư một nhà thờ được dựng nên ở nơi

đây để cung hiến cho biến cố này vào ngày 6 tháng Tám. Một ngày lễ để tôn kính sự Hiển Dung được Giáo

Hội Ðông Phương cử mừng bắt đầu từ khoảng thời gian đó. Sự mừng kính của một vài giáo hội Tây Phương

bắt đầu vào khoảng thế kỷ thứ tám.

Vào ngày 22 tháng Bảy 1456, Thập Tự quân đánh bại quân Thổ Nhĩ Kỳ ở Belgrade. Tin tức về cuộc chiến

thắng được đưa về Rôma vào ngày 6 tháng Tám, và vào năm sau,

Ðức Giáo Hoàng Callistus III đã đưa ngày lễ này vào niên lịch

phụng vụ của Rôma.

Lời Bàn

Một trong những tường thuật về sự Hiển Dung được đọc vào

Chúa Nhật II Mùa Chay hàng năm, để tuyên xưng thiên tính của

Ðức Kitô cho các người dự tòng. Phúc Âm của Chúa Nhật I Mùa

Chay, ngược lại, là câu chuyện Ðức Giêsu bị cám dỗ trong sa

mạc -- xác nhận nhân tính của Ðức Kitô. Hai bản tính khác biệt

nhưng không thể tách rời của Chúa Giêsu là một chủ đề gây

nhiều tranh luận trong lịch sử Giáo Hội thời tiên khởi; ngày nay

chủ đề ấy vẫn còn khó cho nhiều người thấu hiểu.

Trong biến cố Hiển Dung, Ðức Kitô cho các môn đệ thấy sự huy

hoàng mỹ miều của Người, mà qua đó Người sẽ uốn nắn và tô

điểm những ai thuộc về Người: "Người sẽ dùng quyền năng ấy

mà biến đổi thân xác yếu hèn của chúng ta nên giống thân xác
