MCE Clean Energy Comes to Lafayette Community Choice Energy, was signed into law in 2002 by the State of California through AB117, allowing groups of cities and counties such as MCE Clean Energy to pool electricity demand and purchase/generate power on behalf of customers within their jurisdictions in order to provide local choice. The Lafayette City Council approved joining MCE’s Joint Powers Authority in mid-March of this year, and MCE’s electric generation service will begin in September 2016 for Lafayette electricity customers. A 9% energy rate reduction will go into effect with enrollment in September, and rates will vary depending on rate schedules, program choice, and rate adjustments. Beginning now, Lafayette residents and businesses are able to choose between using MCE or PG&E for their power generation, while PG&E will continue to provide electric delivery, power line maintenance, and billing services for all customers. If customers take no action, Lafayette power customers will automatically be enrolled in MCE’s “light green” 50-percent renewable option at the start of their September 2016 billing period, but customers can also choose to switch to MCE’s “deep green” 100-percent renewable option, MCE’s “local sol” 100-percent local wind and solar option, or opt-out and continue to use PG&E at 27-percent renewables at any time. Measure C Bond Measure Passes with a 72% Margin The Lafayette City Council, Contra Costa Taxpayers Association, 10 signatories (Dana Green, Mark Mitch-ell, Meredith Meade, Toni McShane, Ed Stokes, Marechal Duncan, Carol Harris, Don Tatzin, Patty Gonser, Stephenie Teichman), Lafayette Homeowners Council, Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Lafayette Partners In Education (LPIE), and the Lafayette School District Parent Organizations all endorsed the measure which will bring $70M to the Lafayette School District to address critical facilities needs at each the five schools.

Recycling for Lafayette Businesses at No Extra Cost Does your business recycle? If not, you are throwing money away. Recycling and composting services are provided by Republic Services at no additional cost! Your garbage rates are based on the size of your landfill dumpster and frequency of service, so if you can recycle more and landfill less, you can save money. So much more than just cardboard can be recycled: paper, plastic containers, metal cans and glass bottles should be placed in the blue recycling bin. Recycling is not only good for the environment, but it is also mandatory for businesses in Lafayette and Central Contra Costa (AB 1826). Not sure what kind of recycling service you need?
