82 ESI AFRICA ISSUE 4 2007 AWARDS The ESI Africa Awards 2007 took place in Durban in October 2007 at the 60th annual AMEU conference held at the Durban International Conference Centre between the 15th and the 17th October. Established in 200, the awards seek to reward excellent service in the electricity supply industry within five categories: Best Equipment Supplier, Best Provider, Best Metering Company, Best Consultant and AMEU Personality of the year. Independent surveyors approach engineers from municipalities, Eskom regional offices and big industrial users all around the country over a period of two months, asking them whom they consider the best company in a variety of categories. The results are then collated and reviewed by the company auditor. The ESI Africa Excellence Awards provide the industry with an opportunity to reward good service. This year, at the Gala event, AMEU President Mr. Sandile Maphamulo joined ESI Africa Publishing Editor, Nicholas McDiarmid to present the awards to the illustrious winners. This the year, a joint award was given for Personality of the Year. The winners were: ESI AFRICA AWARDS 2007 General Manager Electricity and Energy, Alstom Mark Wilson’s award for Personality of the Year was accepted in abstentia. In the category of Best Equipment Supplier, the silver winner was Beka. Landis + Gyr won the gold award for Best Service Provider and the silver award for Best Metering Company. In the category of Best Equipment Supplier, the gold winner was CBI African Cables. The gold award for Best Metering went to Actaris. The Silver Award for Best Consultant was awarded to NETGroup.
