2. Move the pointer into your model. The selected camera will follow the pointer and align

to adjacent surfaces.

3. Click to place the camera into the model.

4. If the Settings panel is not open, click the Settings icon, , in the Axis Tools toolbar to open it.

5. In the Settings panel, from the Model menu, select the specific model you wish to use.

You can now use the settings panel to further adjust the camera, for example to give it a name and description. You can also make use of the tools in the Axis Tool toolbar to make interactive adjustments to the field of view as described in Axis Tools below.

2.1.2 To place a camera with a mounting accessory

1. Click one of the mount alternatives in the Axis Accessories toolbar:

Recessed Ceiling

Mount Wall Mount Parapet Mount Ceiling Mount

Corner Mount Pole Mount

2. Move the pointer into your model. The selected mount will follow the pointer and align to adjacent surfaces.

3. Click to place the mount into the model.

4. If the Settings panel is not open, click the Settings icon, , in the Axis Tools toolbar

to open it.

Note: Cameras cannot be placed into SketchUp components. Open components will be automatically closed when placing cameras or mounts.

5. In the Settings panel, from the Camera Series menu, select the specific camera series you wish to attach to the mount.

2.2 Axis Tools Use the tools in the Axis Tools toolbar to make interactive adjustments to the field of view, open the Settings or Camera Summary panels, or turn on and off the field of view visualizations.

2.2.1 Adjusting Camera Pan and Tilt

1. Select the camera that you wish to adjust, using the SketchUp pointer tool.

2. In the Axis Tools toolbar, click the Pan icon, , or the Tilt icon, .

3. Move the pointer into the model. A circular adjustment dial is shown.

4. Move the pointer around the adjustment dial to select the desired pan or tilt angle.

5. Click anywhere in the model when done.

Important: The camera can be panned or tilted outside the range supported by the camera or the environment where the camera is mounted. You must ensure that it is possible to achieve the desired tilt and pan in your particular situation.

2.2.3 Show/hide the Field of View Visualization In the Axis Tools toolbar, click the Show All FoVs icon, , or the Hide all FoVs icon, , to show or hide all field of view visualizations. You can show or hide the field of view visualization for an individual camera using the Settings panel or the Camera Summary panel.

The extent of the field of view visualization is adjusted as described in Adjusting Focal Length and Field of View Cutoff above, or using the FoV Cutoff property in the Settings panel. The field of view visualization provides a resolution guide. The resolution guide assists in determining camera coverage at a specific resolution. The resolution guide is adjusted by setting the Target Resolution property in the Settings panel. The target resolution is reached at the center of the field of view. Due to lens properties, resolution will be lower at the edges of the field of view. This is more pronounced at shorter focal lengths.

Important: The field of view visualization is provided for guidance. Individual variations of the field of view may exist between cameras, for example due to back focus adjustment and lens distortion. Plan with margins.

In addition to the properties listed above, the Settings panel includes three buttons:

• (Auto) – Automatically level the field of view for cameras placed on an inclined surface.

• Axis Camera View – Switch to a scene as seen through the selected camera. • Apply – Click to apply changes. Changes are also applied by pressing the Return key

after entering new values. Finally, below the product image is a link to the product page on www.axis.com.

2.2.5 The Camera Summary Panel Click the Camera Summary icon, , to open the Camera Summary panel. This panel lists all the cameras in the SketchUp model. Each camera can be selected by clicking the corresponding row in the panel. Click the checkbox to show or hide the field of view visualization for a camera. Click the View button to view the SketchUp model as seen through the lens of the camera. Below the list of cameras are four buttons:

• Select All – Selects all Axis cameras and mounts in the SketchUp model.

• Hide All – Turns off the field of view visualization for all cameras.

• Show All – Turns on the field of view visualization for all cameras.

• Reports – Opens the Reports window.

2.2.6 Reports Use the Reports button in the Camera Summary panel to open the Reports window. The Axis Camera Extension provides two reports:

• Camera Listing – This report lists each camera in the project, including model, name, description and any accessories used.

• Bill of Materials – This report provides a summary of all cameras and accessories included in the SketchUp model.

Both reports can be exported as CSV files for import into spreadsheets, or opened in a web browser for printing. The CSV export of the Camera Listing includes all camera parameters as available through the settings panel.

Note: When updating values in the Settings panel, the Mount Height property is rounded to the precision selected via Model Info > Units > Length Units. This may cause the placed model to move up or down.

2.3 Axis Camera View When an Axis camera is added to the SketchUp model, a new scene is automatically added. This scene shows the SketchUp model as seen from Axis camera. To view this scene, select one of the following methods:

• Click the appropriate scene tab in the SketchUp window. • Use SketchUp’s Scene panel. • Click Axis Camera View in the Settings panel. • Click View in the Camera Summary panel.

If the camera has been named in the Settings panel, this name is included in the SketchUp scene name. If not, only the camera model is used.

The top or side edges of the scene may be grayed out depending on the aspect ratio of the selected camera and the dimensions of the SketchUp window. The grayed out areas are the part of the model that are outside the camera’s field of view. To go back to the Default Scene, click the Axis Camera View button in the Settings panel.

Important: The Axis Camera View does not take lens distortion into account when producing the 3D view. This means that the 3D view will be different from the actual camera view. This difference is often more pronounced at shorter focal lengths.

Note: All camera adjustments are available in the Axis Camera View, and the Axis Toolbar and the Settings panel can be used to adjust the camera. The view will automatically update if the camera’s settings are changed.
