TANGGAPAN NG PUNUMBAYAN
MENSAHE
Mahalaga ang kamulatan ng mamamayan sa mga impormasyon ukol sa
bawat barangay ng Atimonan. Ang magbigay ng konkreto at angkop na mga
datos ang layunin ng Socio-Economic Profile ng mga Barangay. Ito rin ang
magsisilbing matibay na batayan upang mabalangkas ng Pamahalaang Bayan
ang mga programang pangkaunlaran na ang mamamayan ang higit na
makikinabang.
Ang ating mamamayan ang salamin ng kaunlaran ng bayan kaya ang
progreso ng apatnapu’t dalawang barangay ay pinapahalagahan ng Lokal na
Pamahalaan ng Atimonan. Ang Socio-economic Profile ang testimonya na patuloy
ang pag-unlad ng ating bayan.

Punumbayan
KATANGIAN AT INTERPRETASYON SA OPISYAL NA LOGO NG BARANGAY
Ang opisyal na sagisag (logo) ay binubuo ng dalawang hugis bilog, isa(1) sa loob at isa
sa labas. Ang espasyo sa gitna ng dalawang (2) hugis bilog ay nakasulat ang mga
sumusunod:
BARANGAY STA. CATALINA – pangalan ng barangay at nakalagay sa itaas na
bahagi ng hugis bilog.
ATIMONAN, QUEZON – pangalan ng bayan at probinsyang nakakasakop sa
Barangay at nakalagay sa ibabang bahagi ng hugis bilog.
Ang gitnang bahagi ng nasa loob ng bilog ang mga sumasagisag sa
pagkakakilanlan ng barangay ay ang mga sumusunod:
KABUNDUKAN ang pagkakaisa ang hatid nng larawan ng mga bundok na
siyang nagsisilbing yaman ng barangay.
PALAYAN patuloy ang kasaganaan ng mamamayan sa barangay tulad ng
palayang nagsisilbing isa sa mga kabuhayan ng mga naninirahan dito.
PUNO NG NIYOG ang dalawang puno ng niyog ay nagpapahiwatig ng
pangunahing kabuhayan ng mga taga barangay, ipinakikita rin nito ang sagisag
ng pagiging matatag, matayog at tuwid na pamumuno.
ARAW ang sagisag ng araw ay nagpapakita ng maliwanag na landasin na
lulukob sa buong barangay na punum-puno ng pag-asa.
1896 ito ang taon ng itatag ang barangay Sta. Catalina.
Ang pagkilala ay ibinibigay sa mga nag-ambag para sa pagsasa-ayos ng opisyal
na sagisag (logo) ng barangay at ito ay ang mga sumusunod:
LORILIE P. ANDA – Kasalukuyang Kalihim; nagbigay kahulugan sa mga simbolo
ng opisyal na sagisag.
KGG. AMADO A. VIDAL – Kasalukuyang Punong Barangay; para sa muling
pagsasa-ayos ng sagisag.
VISION
Ang Barangay ay magkaroon ng mapayapa, malinis maka-
Diyos at may maunlad na kabuhayan na bawat mamamayan
ay mayroong sapt na pinagkakakitaan.
MISSION
Patuloy na maiangat ang edukasyon upang makaagapay sa
kasalukuyang pamantayan ng karunungan makapagbigay ng
malawakang impormasyon at hakbangin para mapawi ang
malnutrisyon, at palaguin ang kasipagan at pagsasamahan.
1. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
KASAYSAYAN NG BARANGAY STA. CATALINA
Ang Barangay Sta. Catalina, Atimonan, Quezon, ay nagsimulang makilala bilang barangay
noong ika-25 ng Nobyembre 1897, panahon pa ng mga Kastila. Ang naging pansamantalang Cabeza
de Barangay at masasabi na ring kauna-unahang namuno sa barangay noon ay si Lolo Valeriano
Legaspi Escosia.
Sang –ayon sa mga unang tao, at ayon din sa kanilang mga kuwento noong sila ay
mga nabubuhay pa, ang kampana ng simbahan ng Pagbilao, Quezon at korona ng imaheng “Nuestra
Señora de Sta. Catalina” patron ng bayan ng Pagbilao na yari sa ginto, ay ninakaw ng mga tulisan at
mga bandido. Matagal na hinanap ang mga nawawalang kasangkapang ito sa simbahan. Dahil sa
pangyayaring ito, naging malungkot at bugnutin si Padre Damian de Castro, nakadistinung pari at
kura paruko ng nasabing simbahan. Madalas, sa kanyang pagmimisa ang ginagamit na pantawag-
pansin sa mga magsisimba ay tambuli na yari sa sungay na kalabaw. Matagal ring panahon ang
ginugol ng mga tao sa paghahanap sa nasabing kampana at korona ng imahen “Nuestra Señora de
Sta. Catalina.
Isang araw, sa pangangaso ng isang tao na hindi nabanggit ang pangalan, ay
nakita at natagpuan ang nawawalang kampana na matagal ng pinaghahanap. Natagpuan ito sa
isang malalim na bahagi ng ilog na kung tawagin noon at magpahanggang sa ngayon ay ilog ng
Bantakay, sa dakong ibaba lamang ng “Bantakay Falls,” ang falls na ito sa kasalukuyan ay kilala na
ng mga lokal na turista at maging mga dayuhan.
Subalit kampana lamang ang nakita at natagpuan ng mangangaso, hindi na nakita
ang koronang yari sa mataas na uri ng ginto. May hinala ang mga tao na ang kampana ay dadalhin
sa kabikulan, particular ay sa Naga, Camarines Sur ang sentro at pinamamayanang siyudad ng mga
Kastila noong mga panahong iyon, bukod pa sa mga siyudad ng Maynila at Cebu, upang doon
tunawin at ipagbili.
Sapagkat ang naturang kampana ay yari sa primera klasing tanso, may hinala ang
mga tao na ito ay sa tubig idaan, sa ilog at deretsong Lamon Bay at tuloy-tuloy sa kabikulan. Ang
nasabing kampana ay mabigat. Mahigit sa dalawang tonilada ang bigat nito, kung kaya planong sa
tubig idaan at upang itago rin sa paningin ng mga tao. Sa bigat ng nasabing kampana at sa hirap ng
pagdadala nito, kaya marahil nawalan ng interes ang mga magnanakaw kaya iniwan na lamang ito sa
ilog, at ang korona na lamang na yari sa lantay na ginto ang dinala.
Ang pagkakatuklas at pagkakakita ng kampana ay kaagad na ipinaalam kay Padre
Damian de Castro at kaagad na nag-utos ang pari na ibalik sa simbahan ng Pagbilao ang nasabing
kampana. Subalit, ng mga panahong iyon, ay may pag-aalsa at labanan sa pag-itan ng mga
Katipunerong mga Pilipino at mga sundalong Kastila at mga Kastilang namamahala sa pamahalaan at
simbahan dahilan sa pang-aapi ng mga Kastila sa katutubong Pilipino.
Dahil dito, hindi na naibalik ang kampana sa bayan ng Pagbilao at sa kinalalagyan nitong
simbahan hindi na rin malaman kung sino na ang kumuha ng nasabing kampana, sa dahilang
tuluyan ng nagkagulo at nagkagiyera sa pagitan ng mga Pilipino at mga Kastila hanggang matapos na
ang digmaan at maitaas na ang Bandilang Pilipino sa Kawit, Cavite noong ika-12 ng Hunyo 1898.
Sa dahilang dito nakita at dito rin nawala ang kampana ng simbahan ng Pagbilao
at ang pangalan ng imahen sa simbahan ng Pagbilao ay “Nuestra Señora de Sta. Catalina” kaya dito
na lamang isinunod ang pangalan ng lugar. Noong ika-25 ng Nobyembre 1898, makalipas ang ilang
buwan na makamit ang kasarinlan ng mga Pilipino buhat sa mga Kastila, ay ganap ng naging isang
barangay ang “Nuestra Señora de Sta. Catalina” at hindi nagtagal ng ang Pilipinas naman ay masakop
ng dayuhang mga Amerikano ay ginawa na lamang, Barangay Sta. Catalina, na nasakupan ng
lalawigan ng Quezon, at ngayon Barangay STA. CATALINA, Atimonan, Quezon.
2. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS Brgy. Sta. Catalina is one of the inner barangays of Atimonan, located about 15-kilometers away from the town’s poblacion. It is along the Maharlika Highway bounded on the north by Barangay Rosario, municipality of Mauban, on the south by Malinao Ilaya, on the west by Barangay Silangang Malicboy, municipality of Pagbilao and on the east by Brgy. Rizal.
It has a total land area of 2, 867.4941 hectares per record of Municipal Assessor’s Office composed of eight sitios- Purok 1 (Terminal), Purok 2 (Ekyam), Purok 3-A (Central ), Purok 3-B (D. D. D.) 13 B-1, Purok 4 (Sapang Kalaan), Purok 5 (Kailugan), Purok 6-A (Bantakay) and Purok 6-B (QM). Almost 65% of its land is agricultural. Definitive data were specified below:

3. SOCIO-ECONOMIC SECTOR 3.1 DEMOGRAPHY
RHU Survey of Population 2014, showed that Brgy.Sta. Catalina had a population of 2,467 with computed rate of 1.2%. There are more male than female, with age distribution revealing 70.20% of the total population belong to ages 10-59 years old; 22.98% under 1 year old to 9 years old and 6.80% belonging to 60 years old and above. This shows that Brgy. Sta. Catalina has more dependent population than working population. School going population (pre-school, elementary, secondary and college) is computed at 43% of the
total population and the most common religion is Roman Catholic.

3.2. GENERAL ECONOMIC PROFILE
65% or 500 hectares of the barangay is devoted to agriculture. Major crops are copra and rice.
There is no existing irrigation system that contributed to the limited production of farm
products. Some of the populace are leaned to poultry production for additional source of
income.
