TRAININGS

BASS conducts various types of training to

ensure that users are competent to operate

BASS software. If customers have an internal

Operation Manual, BASS will use this as a

guideline to conduct the training as this

document would govern the customer’s

operational requirements for the software.

BASS has dedicated personnel and an internal

system to monitor and update product

documentation which comprises of User

Manuals, Release Notes, Training Materials,

Product Sheets and a Computer Based

Training system.

With regards to project-related documentation,

these are maintained in a centralized file

server and controlled with valid logins. This is

to ensure that only authorized personnel from

external parties are able to access the project

documentation at any time.

Additionally, BASS also provides in-house

training such as Super User Training, Train the

Trainer, End User Training and IT

Administration Training. Customers also have

the option to engage BASS Authorized

Training Centres where the trainers have

been trained and certified by BASS.

In addition to the training, BASS will assist

customers in preparing a BASS System

Handbook or Operation Manual for vessel-

based users. This document would contain

steps and instructions on how the crew should

use the system as per company policies &

procedures. This manual will also serve as

training material and act as a reference guide

to ensure that all staff members (both at the

office and on-board) will operate the system in

the same manner.

PROCUREMENT

Defining BASSnet™ Procurement

BASSnet™ Procurement is an advanced

system designed to streamline purchasing

activities and optimize the purchasing cycle.

Users can access a broad range of critical

business information on suppliers, prices,

goods receipts, invoices, budget statistics and

warehouse stocks. BASSnet™ Procurement is

built on the latest Microsoft.NET technology –

a robust, reliable and future-proof platform.

Using BASSnet™ Procurement

BASSnet™ Procurement is a highly

established purchasing system designed

especially for the maritime industry, catering to

the complete procurement cycle. It includes

modules for budgeting, requisitions, purchase

orders, invoices and for electronic approval

processing of expenses. When a purchase

request has passed through the required

approval process, the order is transmitted

automatically to the BASS Accounting system.

This eliminates the need for the manual

input of data, significantly decreases the risk

of errors and provides better cost control and

tracking of committed expenses. Users can

also utilize a contract management tool to

store all contractors/suppliers contract prices

based on an expiry date range. In addition, the

system provides an internal requisition process

where users can request and transfer

materials that are available in a warehouse or

from other vessels.

Benefiting from BASSnet™

Procurement

BASSnet™ Procurement binds everyone

together for uniform purchasing processes

even though they can be situated in different

geographical locations. Personnel off-shore

and on-shore have access to the same

information on the entire work flow from

requisitions, quotations to purchase orders,

and online payments with electronic invoices.

BASSnet™ Procurement acts as a one point

facility to store all supplier contacts and the

solution provides a detailed budget follow-up

report that can be compiled to track your latest

financial status.

Users can configure the system to send

electronic transaction alerts to the relevant

superintendent and fleet manager for review

and approval. To avoid errors, users can pre-

set approval levels for different suppliers in

accordance with the company’s relationship

with the supplier, and ensure that vessels take

advantage of pre-existing agreements. The

solution can eliminate mistakes associated

with manual generation of quotations; instead

it will be directly exported and imported into

the system. Nonetheless, this will improve

supplier selection and competitive tendering

for your operations.

PROJECTS

Defining BASSnet™ Projects

BASSnet™ Projects is a powerful software

solution used to track and monitor all aspects

of a project carried out for a vessel, for

example, the on-site superintendents, office

staff and management can use this module to

track and monitor activities related to Dry

Dock, Refit/Conversion/Modification

processes, Special and Wet Dock projects,

amongst others.

BASSnet™ Projects is built on the latest

Microsoft.NET technology - a robust, reliable

and future-proof platform.

Using BASSnet™ Projects

BASSnet™ Projects is designed to help users

maintain and ensure that each project is

delivered on-time and according to budget.

BASSnet™ Projects includes key features

that allow superintendents to create standard

specifications, send specifications to yards for

quotations, keep a tight control of project

costs, view details of all projects for each

vessel, conduct yard evaluations by viewing

the grading of previously used yards for

comparison.

During an ongoing project, the current cost

and budget can be easily tallied enabling fast

decision-making in terms of additional job

approval or awareness of over-budget issues

in the early stages of the project.

This system comes with a report sub-module

that can be used to generate various reports

namely, Yard Bid Report, Requisition List &

Status Report and Quotation Report. In

addition, users can filter information to avoid

getting a large chunk of unnecessary data

displayed in the report.

Benefiting BASSnet™ Projects

Ship maintenance involves complex processes

to ensure a vessel’s operational safety and

improve the quality of ship operations. Major

projects like dry docking and

refit/conversions/modification processes are

usually a major item in the budget of running a

vessel. BASSnet™ Projects offers optimal

benefits in the effective monitoring of a dry

dock project to ensure quality work and the

efficient handling of costs. The integration with

other BASSnet™ modules such as

Procurement, Maintenance and Document

Management helps users easily create

complicated project specifications effectively,

which in turn, reduces the work-load of the

superintendent & ships staff. It also helps

management to have a clearer overview of

what is going on from a technical and

financial stand-point.

This module also includes a handy ‘designer

tool’ that allows users to create and format a

set of standard task lists that can be attached

to the jobs in a project, therefore eliminating

the need to type in common tasks for each job.

A request for bids can be sent electronically

using an MS Excel template to various yards

and these can be easily imported into the

system once the quotes are received. Users

can then generate a hardcopy of the entire

project specification in a Word of PDF file,

complete with a system designed Table of

Contents.

OPERATIONS

Defining BASSnet™ Operations

BASSnet™ Operations is an advanced

software solution comprised of modules to

help users with certificate tracking, voyage

management, location management, electronic

logs, work and rest hours tracking and fleet

positions. This system, a fully integrated

module in the BASSnet™ Fleet Management

Systems, is built on Microsoft.NET framework -

a reliable, user-friendly and future-proof

technology that features a broad range of

functionalities.

Using BASSnet™ Operations

The system’s integration with BASSnet™ Fleet

Management Systems allows seamless

information exchange to enable managers to

make better decisions to optimize vessel

operations. The system enables users to gain

a comprehensive view of their vessels’

certificate status in a single screen, reduces

documentation work with an electronic engine

logbook that records and stores daily reporting

information, has a powerful navigation tool to

enable easy data retrieval and quick voyage

estimation, and monitors bunkering costs. In

addition, it facilitates quick access and easy

fleet monitoring that includes an alert function

to ‘push’ information and reminders on each

vessel’s operational issues to users at the right

time.

Benefiting from BASSnet™

Operations

BASSnet™ Operations has been developed to

include flexible and user friendly features. In

addition to being fully integrated with other

BASSnet™ modules (including BASSnet™

Document Manager), it allows rapid and easy

access to the principal, technical and

commercial particulars of vessels, provides an

overview of certificate status for all vessels in a

fleet and facilitates enquiries on certificate

expiration ensuring that fleet certificates are

kept up-to-date at all times.

RISK MANAGER

Defining BASSnet™ Risk Manager

BASSnet™ Risk Manager is a software

solution designed to help users define, assess

and respond to operational risks.

It supports different types of ships and nature

of operations. Using BASSnet™ Risk

Manager, you can clearly demonstrate

compliance with ISM, ISPS and TMSA risk

assessment requirements.

Using BASSnet™ Risk Manager

BASSnet™ Risk Manager addresses the need

for establishing a practical risk assessment

system that manages the process of

identifying operations and their potential

hazards, evaluating initial and residual risks,

and defining the existing and additional control

measures for all identified risks. It enables

users to execute a risk assessment quickly by

using references and lookups containing

system generated values and company

defined risk matrix. The risk assessment will

then be made available to shore staff, along

with risk ratings and progress for the entire

fleet. All risk assessment history is stored for

record-keeping, where users can view the

audit trail of actions taken and risk status.

Benefiting from BASSnet™ Risk

Manager

BASSnet™ Risk Manager enables users to

determine the area in which operational

controls can be implemented or improved for

reducing risks related to the operational safety

and security on vessels. In the long run,

BASSnet™ Risk Manager can substantially

reduce hazards that are associated to risks,

increase asset efficiency with fewer

breakdowns, and reduce costs by preventing

injury, loss or damage. BASSnet™ Risk

Manager also helps in standardizing the risk

assessment process across the company’s

fleet. This will potentially save a sizeable

REVIEWS &

IMPROVEMENTS

Defining BASSnet™ Reviews &

Improvements

BASSnet™ Reviews and Improvements is a

software solution designed to help users

manage quality standards as defined by the 12

elements of TMSA.

TMSA (Tanker Management Self-Assessment)

is used to assess your company’s best

practices and provide evidences by linking

them to other BASSnet™ modules.

This system serves as an evaluation tool to

measure the fleet organization’s performance

and management standards of quality. Users

can plan and conduct meetings in the office

and on-board the vessels and subsequently

track and follow up the actions and

improvements that have been planned.

The system acts as a fleet performance

improvement management tool which focuses

on operational efficiency.

Using BASSnet™ Reviews &

Improvements

BASSnet™ Reviews and Improvements

consist of 3 elements - Reviews and

Meetings, Self-Assessment/TMSA and

Improvement Programs.

The system helps users in creating and

adhering to a standard format for their reviews

and meetings. It also acts as a management of

change tool.

One of the key functionalities of this software

is the availability of a monitoring tool used to

assess progress and performance of tanker

operations against a set of standard key

performance indicators for TMSA. It highlights

areas that require improvement and

accomplishment per stage of element and sub-

element. In addition, this tool enables users to

calculate their scores in the process of

ensuring that their safety and quality systems

conform to best practices and requirements.

The improvement program feature enables

users to create action plans for the proposed

improvement suggestions given by all sea and

shore staff.

Benefiting from BASSnet™ Reviews

& Improvements

This module is useful for Master’s System

Reviews, Management System Reviews,

safety meetings, PMS meetings and other

operational strategic meetings. With

BASSnet™ Reviews and Improvements,

companies can establish an improvement

program across their organization and fleet,

prioritizing and following up on improvement

projects.

The system also helps to detect gaps,

identifies required critical actions and plans for

future improvements to comply with TMSA.

It is a tool used for systematic monitoring to

determine that the overall business and

operational objectives are being achieved. To

promote business growth and opportunities,

companies can use the results obtained from

user assessments to demonstrate quality

TMSA performance to ship owners, third party

suppliers and business partners.
