Beatrix Potter and Cumbria - TheLake District – Inspiration andConservation... Beatrix Potter spent many happychildhood holidays in the Lake Districtand in 1905 she made it her home. By1930 she had bought over 4000 acresof farmland with the money she hadmade from her “little white books”,many of which were inspired by andwritten in the Lake District. When shedied in 1943, she bequeathed her landto the National Trust so that it shouldremain undeveloped and unspoiltforever.
