PREFACE 1

During 250 days in BEC this year, we had many proud

memories and experiences when working together. BEC has de-

veloped drastically, not only a club but also a give-and-take

family where we can share original ideas as well as our feelings.

On behalf of members in charge of BECSUM, I would like to of-

fer Becers this BECSUM as the recognition of what we have ac-

complished this year. It is a good source of information in look-

ing back upon our life in BEC. Moreover, I give my big thank to

the writers, the supporters and the designer who help me a lot

in this project. Since we have tried out best, I hope that this

summary will be really beneficial for you.

Good fortune and best of luck!

EB’S WORDS|CONTENTS|BECSUM TEAM 2

"School year 2010-2011 marks a revolution of BEC with clear vision, mission and val-ues. With the high spirit of challenging lim-

its, we worked so hard together and developed together. Like a company, we work professionally; we place our customers at a high priority but our members at even a higher one. Some may stand with BEC until the last minutes, some may leave and find other opportunities but we are sure that we have tried our best and will try harder to bring higher benefits to our members. A year with achievements, failures, happiness, sadness, hope and disappointment has passed and BEC has become more mature, new leaders and mem-bers have become more confident and capable than older ones. And we’d like to ex-press our deep belief in a crazily cool BEC next year. From EB 2011-2012"

COMMUNICATION

SKILL SEMINAR

T he opening one was Commu-

nication Skill Seminar

(CSS) held in VCCI, on Vo Thi

Sau Street. This was the first time

newbies from three departments had

a chance to work together in the same

project. Attaching importance to prac-

tice rather than theory, CSS targeted

students from all universities with the

purpose of enhancing their communi-

cation skill – one of the most required

soft skills for their future careers. De-

spite some shortcomings, CSS took

place successfully to some extent and

helped K50-owls to make significant

progress and become much closer.

LOGISTICS IN-DEPTH

T he next seminar was Logis-

tics In-depth (C3), especial-

ly focusing on the third and fi-

nal year students. The special thing of

C3 was the MC contest held by PD to

find suitable MC for the seminar.

Many talents of BEC joined and final-

ly we got two shining winners: Ms.

Uyen Vu –from HR and Ms. Hong

Phuc- from EA. This contest was real-

ly a progressive step in our prepara-

tion. The organizers gave participants

an informative and beneficial Sunday

in Hai Au Building with interesting

speeches and a delicious coffee break.

C3 was really well-prepared for a long

time and brought good feedback to

the project team.

BUSINESS NETWORK-

ING: CORPORATE AND

BANKING FINANCE

T he final seminar in this chain

was Corporate and Bank-

ing Finance (C4). Partici-

pants could take part in C4 for free

because we gained sponsorship of 7

million VND and a venue in Vina

Shoes Building. In this event, we car-

ried out the seminar in a new creative

way. There were ten guests from not-

ed companies with profound

knowledge and valuable information.

After speech giving part, each guest

was arranged to a group of 7 to 8 par-

ticipants, then they talked over the

topic “Finance” in details. The model

was so effective that everybody was

very excited and forgot the time, just

stayed focused on the talk. The feed-

back of C4 was encouraging and put a

happy ending to external events of

BEC this year.

Thanks to CSS, C3 and C4, the image

of BEC spread wider not only in FTU

but also in other universities. BEC-

ers, from all three departments, also

have grown out of our limits and im-

proved important skills to adapt our-

selves to new experiences. According

to our plans, external events next year

are very promising and supposed to

flourish far more!

EGG AUCTION

The last semester witnessed a really big and

well-organized event run by PDers. It was Egg

Auction. With a view to finding out the freaky

cool ideas for next year’s projects which high-

ly meet BEC’s visions and encourage BECers’

creativity, Egg Auction was led in the right

way. When running the project, however,

some certain difficulties were unavoidable.

Due to the fact that not anyone is born with

creativity, good ideas are limited and the

number of ideas didn’t live up to project

team’s expectation. Nevertheless, the mo-

ment when BECers gathered together and

had a good time was valuable and meaningful

to everybody. Through the project, organizers

learned a lot from ideas of BECers as well as

experience to run an event.

SELF-LEADERSHIP

In addition, PD also had a chain of internal

training. Self-leadership was the first explo-

sion. To emphasize the importance of self-

leadership and provide BECers with useful

tools sharpening their self-leadership skill,

this event was really beneficial to partici-

pants. Attending that training day, partici-

pants could gain brand new knowledge and

applied it into practice immediately. That was

really a great time for BECers to flock and en-

joy the training with a lot of laughter. There

was no sign of tension or boredom. Therefore,

this event lasted more than four hours, and

participants’ enthusiasm as well as interest

remained the same until the last minute.

INTERNSHIP

Another training organized recently was In-

ternship. For the purpose of providing stu-

dents with both knowledge and real experi-

ence, the event was honored to welcome two

formal guests: Mr. Tran Nguyen Ngoc Diem

and Mrs. Tran Minh Thu Trang - EB last

term. Thanks to this event, participants got

helpful information and learned precious ex-

perience straight from guest speakers.

LOOKING BACK

In fact, in order that those two projects of

training run smoothly, organizers encoun-

tered some difficulties. It was really hard to

transmit boring academic knowledge to eve-

rybody in the most lively way so that they

wouldn’t feel boring. Another difficulty was

about a suitable venue for such formal train-

ing projects. Finally, however, project team

survived those difficulties and brought BEC

successful training days.

In return for those obstacles, organizers had a

chance to learn useful things. BECause organ-

izers were responsible for those events, they

knew the content of training like the back of

their hands. That was why they had indept

knowledge of the training and got the related

skills. Last but not least, it was also a good

chance for PDers to co-operate and get to

know one another well.

EA Coffee Talk

As we know, Coffee Talk which has been very

popular to the Owls is a successful serial talk

show held by PD department every month. How-

ever, EA coffee talk (EACT) was something new

to BECers. It was carried out on Sunday 22th

April at Summer Milk Tea. This was the first time

Coffee Talk was organized in host of EA with an

interesting topic “challenge your limitation”. We

had hottest debates ever about the dilemma of

“dead or alive” and time machine invention. Be-

sides the discussions, the entertainment during

the show was also very fantastic with egg danc-

ing and circle games, bringing us much craziness

and free laughter. Thanks to the effort of EAers,

the show was really impressive and memorable.

Green day

This was a welcoming field trip in Giang Dien for

K50 newbies who had just been recruited to

make acquaintance with one another and old

members in BEC. The main purpose of this picnic

was to refresh the members after stressful re-

cruitment and to do the first general training for

new owls. As we expected, the program began

with cheer - up greeting from three departments:

EA, PD and HR. The performances were really

amazing and so meaningful that it promoted the

atmosphere so much. The BizGame was the main

part of the trip with a series of puzzle games ask-

ing for both logical and physical abilities from

participants. Despite the fact that the challenge

of those games was so hard that make it frustrat-

ing our partners had attempted to finish the race.

The next part of the trip was general training of

EB including: new term vision, basic prerequisite

and value of BEC. That wonderful Sunday was so

interesting, joyful and knowledgeable despite

having a tired day with games, laughter and hun-

ger.

X-Mas Party

The party took place on Sunday 20th December

2011 in Binh Quoi Tourist Ecological Area. It was

a swimming pool party held by HR department

for greeting coming X’mas and welcoming New

Year. BECers had chance to play original swim-

ming games, enjoy barBECue and exchange

X’mas presents. The most specific part of the

party was the talent show of BECers with the

most beautiful voices and performances from

three depts. The party was expected to support

participants’ family atmosphere and enhance club

solidarity.

Journey to Charm (J2C)

This was another picnic organized by HR de-

partment. J2C was aimed to be a combination

between team-building day and relaxation after

a hard working term of large event with dead-

line and tiredness. BECers had a change to

amuse one another with humorous perfor-

mances in a series of challenge games. The last

part of the program was the most “appealing”

one when both “Ms. and Mr.” from three depts

showed off their beauty in the talent show. And

Mr. Nguyen Tan Tai was the charm winner.

Owlery

After Green Day, the Owlery was another event

that helped new members understand their

new family more by learning BEC tradition. In

the formation of a friendly tea break with the

participation of former generation, there were

many guests: former presidents, vice-

presidents and leaders of the very early begin-

ning of BEC. In addiotion to the review of the

club vision, value and basic prerequisite the

party included experience sharing part from

alumni and questions of new members about

difficulties and solutions in BEC. This was a

good opportunity for both current members

and alumni to look back the establishment and

development of BEC to gain further achieve-

ments in the future.

Coffee Talk series

The Coffee Talk’s themes and activities vary

from various aspect of life from education to

communication, from money to genders. The

topics of Coffee Talk are:

Social Networking Skill

Stress

Tet in Owlery

Boys versus Girls

Students in the Pricing Storm

Owl’s Flight: NCS64

The Coffee Talk team was committed to create

and better Coffee Talk to spread the spirit of

English Speaking and Opinions Sharing to BEC.

PDers have tried hard to set the base for the

younger generations of BECers to develop and

of course, enjoy. Coffee Talk held by PD has

become a traditional event of BEC, giving our

owls a lot of fun and valuable tips for practical

issues in life. This event will be enhanced more

to be tremendously successful next year!

EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

DEPARTMENT 2011 -

2012

Overall Orientation

With the purpose of giving new

EAers a more detailed look of what

the department is in charge of, the

meeting was hold in earnest. De-

partmental rules were announced;

information channels were intro-

duced. Simultaneously, members

became acquainted with each other

in a friendly mood. For the first

time, leadership was called upon

all who had the ambition to take

responsibility. As a result, EA had

found 4 new leaders: Survey, Face-

book, Youtube, Forum leaders.

The first event of EA ended with

excitement and positive tension.

Brainstorming week

Each small teams of EA had a

gather-up to brainstorm break-

through ideas as well as united

strategies for the development of

each channel. Facebook team came

up with a widely-recognized idea

of an online competition. Youtube

team started making a funny video

about BEC’s president. Forum

turned up some attentive posts.

Survey team finished analyzing the

results collected from K50. All

teams proved to be creative and

somewhat effective in delegating

tasks.

Photoshop training with

Mr. President

As an image-shaper for BEC, EA

need to be competent in designing

the club’s products, from posters,

logos to branding items. In order to

better EA’s skill, Mr. President

was so nice to give IT-EAers a

photoshop training. Joined in this

training, there were not only

EAers, but also some HRers.

PR writing sharing with

Anphabe Manager –

Ms. Anh Thu

Being in charge of marketing,

which involves a lot of writing, EA

also needs to master PR writing

skill. With the help of Ms. Vice

President, TBTers and EAers had a

chance to hear from the profession-

al PR writer coming from Anpha-

ba, the biggest Vietnam communi-

ty for business leaders.

Presentation skill dis-

cussion with the ap-

prentice

Presentations are made a lot during

the advertising time for an event.

How to present fascinatingly to our

customers affects significantly the

traffic to our event. Again, with the

presence of Mr. President, also a

former EAer, and the from the ap-

prentice, EA had a discussion

about the best way to present to

public. Each member had to give

their own opinions on the topic, so

it was like an implement at the

same time.

EA’s picnic

After the running of CSS and all

the channels, EA held a picnic to

relax to restore energy for C3 and

Page 11: BECSUM

C4. The picnic took place by the

crescent lake. All the food and ac-

tivities were prepared by a group of

beautiful girls in EA. Although it

was a time for fun, we, as EAers,

did not forget to train our wisdom

by playing a “brainy” game – Ma-

fia. Followed the intensity of the

game were a lunch with various

kinds of nutritious food and more

relaxing games. EA had a great

time together and was ready for

more challenges.

Moment of truth

Having been through many events

in the year and working with mem-

bers from different departments,

EA decided to take a look back to

learn and to propose ideas for the

club in the future. Each member

was free to express their opinions

no matter how good or bad they

might be. Being straight to each

other brought us closer; and we all

took a serious look at what we had

done so far. In the end, many ideas

were given in order to have more

effectiveness not only in EA, but

also in BEC.

Human Resources De-

partment 2011-2012

Welcome Tea

This was the first time all HRers

came together after the result of the

recruitment had been announced.

On that day, new members were

told functions of HR department

and tasks of a HRer. We were also

given the introduction of current

members in HR. Then, new mem-

bers one by one introduced them-

selves. Accompanying with the in-

troduction, we had to perform some

small challenging tasks like singing

a song when holding the nose, do-

ing a sexy dance and so on. Thanks

to this event, we got to know one

another more were ready to work as

an HRer.

Free Talk

This was one of the frequent events

of HR. There were Two Free Talks

organized in November and De-

cember of 2011: ‘HR Drawbacks

and Solutions’ and ‘How to control

your feelings when you have an

argument’. These two topics re-

ceived a multitude of opinions from

HRers. It was not only a great op-

portunity to enhance English speak-

ing skill but it also was a special

chance for us to deal with practical

problems.

Training

HR organized many training days

during 2011-2012. We began with

‘Negotiation Training’ in Novem-

ber with 2 special guest speakers-

Mr. Huynh Song Kha and Mr.

Duong Tan Vu. From this, we were

provided with many tips and advice

on the road to become skilled nego-

tiators.

Then, we had an experience sharing

day ‘How to be a

good interviewer’

with Mr. Nguyen Tien

Duong- our ex-Owl

Nanny. With a view to

improving HRers’ in-

terview skill more and

more, ‘Interview

Practice’ was orga-

nized. After two afore-

mentioned training,

HRers are ready for next year Re-

cruitment.

Recently, we have had training in

Photoshop with which we have got

lots of useful knowledge about

basic functions of Photoshop. We

are sure not to stop there. More

practical training will be organized

so that HRers will get many bene-

fits from them.

Competition

HR has had 2 competitions so far.

The first one was ‘Spell Owl-HR

Internal Version’. As it can be

seen from the name, this was a

spelling competition. After going

through 4 hard rounds, we finally

found the winner - Mr. Nguyen

Minh Man. Following the success

of the first competition, we came to

‘Way To Knowledge’ organized in

March, 2012. In this competition,

we had to face up with easy-to-

difficult questions concerning many

disciplines: Mathematics, Art,

Sports, etc. After overcoming other

redoubtable competitors, Ms. Ho-

ang Thi My Duyen got the highest

scores and was obviously the win-

ner of this game. From these two

competitions, HRers really had

great moments together, leant many

new things and was ready for more

and more up-coming challenges.

Learning circle

This is a chance for HRers to share

the obstacles that they encounter.

As for unsolved problems, we will

try to find good solutions to them

altogether. By this way, we hope

that all members can make more

progress on their work and get

greater achievements.

HR’s Bonding

This was precious time for HRers

to gather together

for fun. We have

had 2 events like

this up to now.

The most recent

one was on June

2nd: ‘HR End-

year Picnic’. We warmly wel-

comed the attendance of 2 ex-

members: Mr. Duong and Mr. Tu.

There we had a very, very delicious

barbecue. As the name of it, this

activity really helps us to feel closer

to one another.

PROJECT DEVELOP-

MENT DEPARTMENT

2011-2012

Internal Training

There are four main internal train-

ings for Becers, two of which for

only Pders – they are Project De-

velopment Process and Skypox.

The internal train-

ing aims to develop

members in several

ways. We dedicate

not only to develop

the skills of an en-

trepreneur but also

the manner of a

successful person.

The internal train-

ing team is work-

ing hard enough to bring out more

wonderful and helpful trainings for

members of 2012-2013. The train-

ings are always filled with experi-

ences from the guest speakers who

are our Executive Board and the

Alumni.

Criticism

There was one day to help PDers

understand each other well. We

talked about the members and also

our own drawbacks and difficulties

in 2011-2012 as a BECers so that

others could help realize the solu-

tions.

Relaxation

There are plenty of activities for

PDers to relax besides studying and

working hard for ideas for Semi-

nars, Coffee Talks or Trainings.

Places to hang out vary from every

corners of HCMC., have not only

studied but also have enjoyed fun

since the day we joined BEC.
