Kids Care Club Kids Care is a voluntary club in which students give up their recess time to participate in activities that help give back to the community. We are so proud of our Cerritos students. Since the beginning of October, the students donated and tied over 100 fleece blankets! These blankets have been donated to the Phoenix Ronald McDonald House, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and the Kyrene Resource Center. Our next project is to make over 90 Valentines for residents within a local Ahwatukee nursing facility. Again, we are so proud of our students and the leadership and true acts of kindness that they have demonstrated. Thank you to Kari Watson, Linda Wolf, Emily Mazer, Lindsey Petrillo, and all the parent volunteers who have contributed to the success of this club!

Yearbook Photo Submission Extended! A big thanks goes out to those of you who have taken the time to upload your pho-tos for the Cerritos yearbook! The Yearbook Committee is trying very hard to make sure that we have a good representation from all the classes, grade levels, and events. Specifically, we still need photos of:

1st Day of School

Ice Cream Social

Pumpkin Walk

Turkey Trot

Leadership Day

Lunch on the Lawn

Winter Wonderland

Any clubs or groups

Spring Carnival Planning

Meeting Come One, Come All! We need your help with this fun, family event! There will be a meeting on Thursday, Febru-ary 7th @ 2:40pm at the round tables near the playground to begin planning

this event. We will be forming committees for decorations, signage, food, donations/baskets, volunteer coordination, and bounce houses/games. If you are interested, please attend the planning meeting or contact Marcy Theisler, [email protected] or Allie Schenach, [email protected]. (The Spring Carnival will be held on Friday, April 19.)

Cerritos Garden Club

Do you have a green thumb? Enjoy rolling up your sleeves and getting dirty with your kids? Then, the Garden Club needs you! Thank you to our parent volunteer, Chylon Brigham, and our fac-ulty volunteer, Chris Epolite, for agreeing to spearhead this ef-fort. The children LOVE planting seeds, tending the garden, and ultimately harvesting the fruits of their labor! We have had an overwhelming interest from the students in this club — over 90 students! So, we need a few parent volunteers to assist with:

preparing the garden,

helping the kids plant seeds, and

brainstorming on ideas for lessons for the kids. If interested, please contact Chylon Brigham at [email protected].

Taste of Kyrene—Thurs, February 28 Did you know we have 450 homeless students in our Kyrene School District? Did you know we have over 6,000 students on free or reduced lunches in just our district alone? The numbers are astounding and heartbreaking!

The Kyrene Foundation is a place where these families can get help for everything from a pair of socks to a box of Cheerios for breakfast (and much more).

Here’s how you can help support the Foundation this year for its annual “Taste of Kyrene” event:

1.) Donate a bottle of wine ($10.00 value or more) for the Silent Auction

2.) Donate a gift for the Silent Auction (e.g., Emeril Lagasse cook set, Bose Remote Docking Station, etc.)

3.) Purchase an Opportunity Drawing ticket — $10.00 for a chance to win the Grand Prize: a vacation for four to Disneyland or Sea World or 2nd place: Court-side tickets to the Phoenix Suns.

4.) Purchase tickets to attend the Taste of Kyrene Main Event:

When: Thursday, February 28, 2013 6:00-10:00pm

Where: The Castle at Ashley Manor, Chandler, AZ

$: $50/ticket online or $70/ticket at the door

Chef station tastings, dessert and coffee

Live Entertainment, Beer & Wine Cash Bar, Cocktail Attire

Silent Auction, Opportunity Drawing

If you would like to make a donation or purchase an opportunity drawing ticket, please contact Janet Mooneyham at [email protected]. She will happily pick up your donation or drop off a raffle ticket. You may also purchase opportunity drawing and event tickets on the Foundation’s website, www.kyrenefoundation.org. Click on Getting Involved, Taste of Kyrene, Ticket Sales or Opportunity Drawing.

What a great opportunity to make a positive impact on our community!
