Bellfield Bulletin Wisdom Through Faith & Knowledge A Message from the Principal Term 1, Week 7 2017 Dear Parents, Assalamu Alaikum, There are days when I wander around the college I have the opportunity to see learning come alive in the classrooms. I hear the sounds of discussions, laughter and quesoning, I feel the sense of accomplishment, content and peace and I see learning. Over the past few days, as I visited senior school classes I was witness to Year 10 bantering in dialogue to Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing in English and Chemical Reacons in Science, Year 8 analysing the text Coraline and Year 7 sculpng like Fillipe Faraut in Visual Arts and learning about The Water Cycle in HSIE. These visits taught me a great deal about what students need in their educaon. So I ask you as parents, what is it that students need in their educaon? If that queson was asked of me my response would be variety, engagement, challenges and support. The teachers at Bellfield College offer variety, they engage the students in their learning, they challenge them so they are always learning and mostly, they support the students. This is evident to me as Principal, every single day. The level of support your chil- dren receives is something that only I’ve seen at Bellfield. In a recent meeng I had with students and I asked them, “What Makes Bellfield unique?” I received a variety of responses but there was one that really stood out. One student’s response was “Bellfield offers you a chance to restart, have a go and move forward.” Incredible was my first thought! For a student to recognise that Bellfield College puts the student at the centre and gives them the chance to have a go, restart and move forward, what an accomplishment of a fine instuon. So I thank the teachers, the execuve and families for allowing this to be a reality at Bellfield College. You have made me all so proud!

Bellfield Bulletin Wisdom Through Faith & Knowledge

A Message from the Principal Term 1, Week 7 2017 Dear Parents,

Assalamu Alaikum,

There are days when I wander around the college I have the opportunity to see learning come alive in the classrooms. I hear the

sounds of discussions, laughter and questioning, I feel the sense of accomplishment, content and peace and I see learning.

Over the past few days, as I visited senior school classes I was witness to Year 10 bantering in dialogue to Shakespeare’s Much

Ado about Nothing in English and Chemical Reactions in Science, Year 8 analysing the text Coraline and Year 7 sculpting like Fillipe

Faraut in Visual Arts and learning about The Water Cycle in HSIE.

These visits taught me a great deal about what students need in their education. So I ask you as parents, what is it that students

need in their education? If that question was asked of me my response would be variety, engagement, challenges and support.

The teachers at Bellfield College offer variety, they engage the students in their learning, they challenge them so they are always

learning and mostly, they support the students. This is evident to me as Principal, every single day. The level of support your chil-

dren receives is something that only I’ve seen at Bellfield. In a recent meeting I had with students and I asked them, “What Makes

Bellfield unique?” I received a variety of responses but there was one that really stood out. One student’s response was “Bellfield

offers you a chance to restart, have a go and move forward.”

Incredible was my first thought! For a student to recognise that Bellfield College puts the student at the centre and gives them

the chance to have a go, restart and move forward, what an accomplishment of a fine institution. So I thank the teachers, the

executive and families for allowing this to be a reality at Bellfield College. You have made me all so proud!

Moving to other areas of the school, the College building is in full swing and there are significant changes we can see.

At the front of the college, our electricity substation shell is almost complete and you will see tradesmen working on

that over the coming weeks. If your children are asking you about what it, please feel free to ask them “What do you

think that room is for?” This way, you are challenging them, engaging in conversation and building their imaginations.

Student Uniform

There has been an improvement in student uniform over the past couple of weeks. Please ensure that your child is

dressed in full school uniform daily, to avoid any uniform notices. Your child won’t be permitted to enter the class-

rooms if they are not in full school uniform.

Extended Travel Leave

Just a reminder to all families about our extended leave travel policy. The college only grants 2 weeks (10 school days)

per year for leave. The only exception is 3 weeks leave (15 days) during the extended leave period which begins 23rd

November 2017. Please note that if you have a child enrolled in compression (years 11 and 12) extended leave will NOT

be approved.

Car Line Improvements

Thank you to the parents for your patience during pick up and drop off every day. The college understands that our

population has grown and has begun plans to revamp the carline in the afternoon. Once we have all areas mapped out

and planned accordingly, we will be inviting parents to the college for a Car Line Session explaining the procedures. In

the mean time please be aware of the following:

1. the Speed Limit is 10km per hour. In the interests of student and staff safety, please ensure you are adhering to

this speed limit.

2. Please refrain from using your mobile phone whilst driving. This is dangerous and can distract you from the

driveway and all the students around.

3. Do not block the entrance and exit points where the students walk. This congests the flow of pedestrians and

causes delays in moving cars along.

4. Please follow the car line flow all the way down the driveway. The teachers are there to guide you along the

way.

5. All cars must join the carline. Please do not park and expect that you can walk your child across the road. You

will be asked to join the carline and pick up your child from the designated areas.

6. Ensure your and your passengers seatbelts are fastened before you move through the car line.

I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.

Warm regards and God Bless

Mrs Mansell

Junior School News

Assalamu Alaykum,

It has been a very busy start to the year!

This term Bellfield Junior students were exceptional participants of the Life Education Happy Harold visits and the NRL Wests Tigers Assembly visit. Both school activities incorporated clear outcomes and objectives linked to the NSW Syllabus. The NSW Wests Tigers visit in particular, emphasised resilience and aimed to help students recognise that setting goals and working towards dreams gives purpose and motivation to get through hard times.

This year we aim to develop parent engagement since it is an essential part of a child’s education leading to better educa-tion outcomes, enhanced engagement with school work, more regular school attendance, better behaviour and increased social skills. We established some explicit goals including building a strong classroom community for all students. Last week we commenced our parent volunteer program and since then we have had many parents on campus involved in classroom activities. There will be other initiatives throughout the year aimed at encouraging parent engagement including the upcoming Hijab Day Ceremony, Harmony Day Picnic, and the Parent Literacy Strategies Workshop. (Please refer to the updated Term Calendar sent home this week and School Stream for dates)

Junior Assembly Last week we held our fortnightly Junior School Assembly and watched on as many students received awards. The theme of the assembly was “Sayedda Fatima” (as). We were joined by Senior School Student Representatives Mahdi Fouladi, Nazanin Sharifi, and our School Counselor Sheik Hamid Waqar.

Bullying No Way It is National No Bullying Day on March 17th. Throughout the term students have engaged in many dis-cussions about the effects of bullying. The Bullying No Way program targets students from Years 3 -6 and covers topics including recognising and understanding bullying, building respectful relationships and ensuring school is safe for every-one. If you log on to the below website you will find more information about bullying for parents. Simply click on the tab labelled ‘parents’.

‘Caught you being good’ ticket – ‘Caught you being good’ tickets, are given to students throughout the school day. Our pastoral care initiatives aim to reward positive behaviour, build skills to use and help develop alternative preferred behav-iours. Recipients of a ‘caught you being good’ ticket will go into a draw for a lucky prize. To be drawn monthly.

Citizenship Morning Tea – At the end of each Term, teachers will host a Morning Tea for students who have displayed high expectations of behaviour and a positive attitude towards their peers, teachers and the school.

This term Kindergarten students have moved from letter Alif أ to letter Dal د.

In Year 1, students have been concentrating on selected letters and their short and long sounds.

They have also began reading words with these sounds to enhance their understanding.

Year 2 &3 have improved in reading words.

Just a reminder to parents, that the student must complete any homework given to them. You

may provide them with assistance if required, but it needs to be completed with their own hand-

writing.
