Principal’s Message Week 4 Term 3
Education Week
I would like to congratulate students and teachers on their fabulous efforts during Education Week.
Each class participated in design and construction challenges that required students to think
creatively and critically reflect on the success of their design. Thank you to the many parents who
came in and supported student learning during the week. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm
and positivity about learning. Feedback on the day’s activities would be appreciated by emailing
the school.
Softball
On Wednesday 1 August, our school softball team played their Regional Final here at school against
Wee Waa Public School. Mrs Hunt commented on the wonderful team spirit and was very
impressed by their sense of fair play. The team was defeated but
should be proud of their achievement as Regional Runners-up in
only their second year of competition.
We would like to thank Nikki Parsons, Teesh Wright and Heather
Quarmbly for their help and support on the day and in the lead up to
the match.
New England Sings!
The Ben Venue Primary Choir will again participate in ‘New England
Sings!’, the region’s biggest choral showcase. Tickets are now on
sale at www.trybooking.com/WXRS for $25 (adults) and $15
(students).
These are selling fast so get in early if you wish to attend.
The Ben Venue Choir will perform in the 2:30pm concert only.
Trivia night
Last Friday night the school technology team hosted a very
successful Trivia for Tech evening. The night was well attended with
all 10 tables sold. I would like to acknowledge the work of the
whole team in organising such a fun evening and giving up many
hours of their own time in order to raise funds for the purchase of
additional technology for our students. I would especially like to
thank the team leaders Rebecca O’Hara and Rhiannon Trott for their
commitment and passion towards leading the team.

School Stream Update
This week, the School Stream app will receive an update. If your phone is not set to update automatically, please ensure that you update the app when it’s released in your app store. Linked here are instructions for Apple Store and Google Play Store. To get the most out of the app features we recommend creating an account so you can easily manage the content the
school sends through.
To create an account, go to the side menu via the top-left corner and click on ‘Log-in’. This is a quick and easy process
that will require your first and last name, and a mobile number, email, or Facebook account authorisation.
In Week 4 we are focusing on Getting Along as part of the
You Can Do It Program.
Examples of Getting Along behaviours are:
Taking turns and sharing
Helping at home for example making the bed, unpacking the
dishwasher, walking the dog
Telling the truth
Talking rather than fighting when faced with a problem
Some things you can say to your child to encourage Getting Along
behaviours are:
You are a helpful person
Solving this problem without fighting shows that you are really
getting along
You are a good listener
Sharing helps you be a good friend

Piggy Races
We are looking for a person to organise a multicultural stall with food, dress & traditions. It would be fantastic to see a vast
number of Cultures represented.
We would be grateful for donations of coffee beans for the coffee van. Also, donations of prizes to go towards the winners of
the pig races on the day.
Looking for a Kindergarten parent to coordinate a stall of their choice.
Please contact Melody Parkes ([email protected]) if you are interested or able to assist with any of the above requests.
All donations can be left at the school office.
3C have had a very busy start to the term. In Week 2 we celebrated NAIDOC Week and learnt about an inspirational
Aboriginal woman named Nova Peris Kneebone and her achievements both on and off the sporting field.
Last week we celebrated Education Week and students took part in a design challenge where they made their own auto
rotating helicopter that could safely descend to the ground from the Year 5 veranda.
In our History unit this term we are studying what life was like for Aboriginal people before the arrival of the First Fleet. We
have looked at why the British needed to set up a penal colony and the impact that colonisation had on Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander people.
Last week we also said goodbye to our refugee student Fouad who has moved interstate with his family.
Please ensure that your child has all the necessary equipment required for each school day. Most students have used their
glue sticks and lead pencils and will need to replenish their supplies.

Indoor Hockey It is time to start thinking about organising indoor hockey teams for the summer competition. The primary competition runs every Friday afternoon during Term 4 and Term 1 from 4:00pm at the Armidale HS Den. There are 3 divisions, depending on age and experience and players new to the sport are most welcome. I will provide further information to interested players next week. Sue Lye
