Of late there have been a number of students arriving as early as 8:00am. Teachers are not required to be at school until 8:40am therefore in the event of a medical emergency I cannot guarantee that someone will be present. This means that on many occasions we have been unable to replace teachers who are unwell. On some days we have had many teachers away due to illness or professional learning. This means that we have had to split classes and send students to other rooms to be supervised. I understand that this is not ideal, but unfortunately we do not always have an alternative solution. Creative and Practical Arts Evening (CAPA) The Creative and Practical Arts evening held last Wednesday night was a wonderful showcase of the talent of Ben Venue students as well as a great example of the CAPA Program operating at our school. The school invests significantly in music, dance and public speaking so it was wonderful to see students as young as Kindergarten performing confidently and with obvious enjoyment. I would like to thank the P&C for once again supporting this evening by providing a BBQ dinner. This is a great initiative and greatly contributes to the community feel of our school. School Photos We are aware that many students missed the opportunity to have their school photos taken during the scheduled school photo days. A make-up school photo day will be held this Wednesday 18 September. If your child missed their photos please send them dressed in full school uniform on this day. NAPLAN Individual student results will be distributed as soon as they arrive this week. Please be aware that my advice to parents is to treat the student information carefully due to the technical disruptions that occurred. The best source of information on your childs progress is class teachers. As a school we will be looking at the NAPLAN data to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement however we will be mindful that this data does have its limitations and true comparisons can only be made once all schools transition to NAPLAN online. Regional Athletics Carnival Last Friday students from Ben Venue participated in the Regional Athletics Carnival in Tamworth. I am still waiting to hear all the results but I do know that the boys relay team made up of Johnathon and Samuel Kapayah, Jake Inman and Luke Whitty have progressed to State level. Leonardo Wright is going to State for 800m and Skye Vaughan is through for Shotput. I congratulate all our athletes on their individual performance and behaviour. Lou Moffatt

Principal’s Message Week 9 Term 3

Student Safety

I once again remind parents that the playground is not supervised until 8:40am in the morning. Of late there

have been a number of students arriving as early as 8:00am. Teachers are not required to be at school until

8:40am therefore in the event of a medical emergency I cannot guarantee that

someone will be present. Please do not send your child to school before this time.

Casual Teacher Shortage

As you may be aware there is a shortage of casual teachers available in the

Armidale area. This means that on many occasions we have been unable to

replace teachers who are unwell. On some days we have had many teachers away

due to illness or professional learning. This means that we have had to split classes

and send students to other rooms to be supervised. I understand that this is not

ideal, but unfortunately we do not always have an alternative solution.

Creative and Practical Arts Evening (CAPA)

The Creative and Practical Arts evening held last Wednesday night was a

wonderful showcase of the talent of Ben Venue students as well as a great example

of the CAPA Program operating at our school. The school invests significantly in

music, dance and public speaking so it was wonderful to see students as young as

Kindergarten performing confidently and with obvious enjoyment. I would like to

thank the P&C for once again supporting this evening by providing a

BBQ dinner. This is a great initiative and greatly contributes to the

community feel of our school.

School Photos

We are aware that many students missed the opportunity to have

their school photos taken during the scheduled school photo days. A

make-up school photo day will be held this Wednesday 18

September. If your child missed their photos please send them

dressed in full school uniform on this day.

NAPLAN

Individual student results will be distributed as soon as they arrive this week. Please be aware that my advice

to parents is to treat the student information carefully due to the technical disruptions that occurred. The best

source of information on your child’s progress is class teachers.

As a school we will be looking at the NAPLAN data to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement

however we will be mindful that this data does have its limitations and true comparisons can only be made

1/2S What an exciting, fast paced Term 3 has been for students. There seems to have been a special event on

each week this term. So far we have celebrated Education Week, Fathers Day, Naidoc Week, Book Parade and

the Creative Arts Showcase. Still more to look forward to at our K-2 Athletics

Carnival at Harris Park on the last day of term.

Along with the numerous extra curricular activities listed above, students have

been working very hard within the classroom particularly in the areas of writing

and Mathematics.

Our writing unit this term has seen us create informative texts on an animal of our

choice. 1/2S have discovered many interesting facts about our favourite animals

and learnt how to structure a factual text in the process. We are very keen to bring

our reports home to share with you in the holidays.

Our Mathematics units have been very hands on of late. Students have been

learning to tell the time, o’clock, half past and a quarter to/past. Manipulating and

modelling materials to show our understanding of the relationships between parts

and wholes while exploring fractions, and most recently discovering the different

3D shapes and their properties.

Students would also like me to mention that we recently (finally) won the ‘Oscar’ for beautiful assembly manners.

We are currently working on strategies to ensure a further win next term.

Thank you for your continued support

5/6R As a part of our History unit, students have been writing Australiana themed poetry. Here are some of their pieces.

Creekland

Breeze blows through the copper dust,

Bird calls signal golden dusk.

The shelter’s in a shed of rust,

Feel the warm air, smell the musk.

Grass creates a cozy haze,

Silver moon ends the day.

Feel your eyes close in a daze,

Now it’s nightfall, no more frey.

The midnight air is deep and cool,

Shade creates an endless pool.

Rest against the soft damp soil,

Where frogs shall croak and ferns shall

coil.

Wander in the shallow creek,

Birds are preening - night has come.

The air is quiet oh so meek,

Say goodbye to golden sun.

The Fire at the Woollen Mill

A sunny day in Dingo-land, When the creatures of the bush had to band. Was the Fat old bloke up on the hill, Who spotted the fire at the woollen mill. The roos could tell something was wrong, When the possums hit the bell. Ding Dong! Driving up in their fireman carts, They tried to work out how the fire starts. Pumping the water from Crocodile Creek, The land seemed to turn even more bleak, Speeding up the old dirt road, Quite frankly, disturbed Mr Toad! The local Grocer, happy to help, Soon gave out a great big yelp! For he had burnt himself with fire, While he had tried to climb higher. The creatures tried to help the good old mate, But sadly he had met his fate. It was sad times but none to mourn, For frequently more blaze was born. Finally, they found it out, The key to how this fire came about. ‘Twas mayor, the echidna, that knew the soil, And always seemed to have a boil. So maybe, just maybe, it was him that lit, The devastating inferno at Koala Pit. He always seemed to have a grudge, On all the birds that gave him a nudge. To burn the bush was a perfect plan, And that glider named Beverly Dan. Soon the animals confronted his tail, And bolted him, with a nail. Two weeks later, no more fire, And Mayors with terrible attire. That dirty rascal got what he deserved, And by the way, quite a nerd! Now the frogs hop about, So many, lots to count. Now everyone here at Crocodile Creek, Will never forget that echidnas rosy red cheek! By Joseph 5/6R

Australian Animals

Australian animals are a wondrous sight,

The brown snakes, they’re having a bite,

The kangaroos don’t mind to fight,

And the cockatoos, they laugh all night.

Australian animals really are a wondrous

sight.
