The culture that developed in the Indus River Valley around 3500-2500 B.C.E. was a result of its geography. India has the Thar Desert and the Hindu Kush and Himalaya Mountains to the north. The Indus and Ganges Rivers, a lifeline for the earliest civilizations, provided fertile soil which was necessary to grow crops.
