Robert A. Swarm, MD, a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine, began residency training in general surgery before completing anesthesiology training at Washington University. After fellowship training in pain management at the University of Sydney, he returned to Washington University to become the Director of Pain Management and to establish the Pain Management Fellowship Training Program. As Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, his main clinical interest is the multidisciplinar y treatment of acute and chron- ic pain. Menelaos Karanikolas, MD, DSc, received his medical education in Greece before coming to Washington University for anesthesiology resi- dency training and fellowships in cardiotho- racic anesthesiology and pain management. His areas of clinical expertise include cardiothoracic anesthesiology and perioperative and cancer pain treatment. Dr Karanikolas, currently Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, is completing a Masters in Public Health and is initiating clinical research projects through the Washington University Pain Center. Donna Kalauokalani, MD, MPH, a graduate of the University of Hawaii School of Medicine, completed anesthesiology residency training at Washington University. After pain manage- ment fellowship training at the University of Washington, she gained fur- ther training in health services research as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. She has recently returned to Washington University as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry. The focus of her clinical work and clinical research is pain treatment.
